pretty sure atheism isn't a disbelief in all supernatural events/concepts,it's just a lack of belief in deities.
so it is in fact possible to believe in satan and be an atheist.

if we accept a god as a supernatural being who created life,
what if some scientist in the multiverse created the Big bang in an experiment?
what if time flows much faster inside this bubble universe and that scientist had a way to intervene in it?

Made of hydrocarbons that even form in space, that in water on clay surfaces combine to long chain molecules, that naturally make copies of themselves; and that on one side have properties that (also naturally forming) lipid molecules attach to it and protect the molecule.
Repeat that process under varying conditions trillions of times, and chances are that some are more robust than others, and maybe even have some functionality to do something that further improves their survivability.

"Dust comes from rocks and man was made from dust" - your words, not mine.
From your own words, dust is primarily ground rocks, i.e. minerals.

      @matthewcarter919 2 года назад

@@feedingravens so, I am talking about Genesis. If one is following a literal interpretation of genesis, it says that man was made from dust.
Also, hydrocarbons are not #1 in the universe.
Hydrogen and helium are #1, then distantly behind that is oxygen... then a fraction of that is carbon. For every 200 hydrogen atoms, you have one carbon.
On earth oxygen is the most plentiful element, followed by magnesium and then silicon.

Kent Hovind is quite literally one of the reasons I became an atheist. Let me explain.
When I was a young kiddo, I was a young earth creationist. I was groomed by my parents and my church to believe these things, and Kent Having along with Ken Hamm were major influences in my life.
The skills I learned to debate young earth creationism? Eventually led me to actual Science. I started in anthropology
where I vigorously grilled my professor about carbon dating (I bet she remembers). Slowly I came to realize that this was reality and slowly came back to my roots - debate - and had a grand old time (and by that I mean lots of crying) deconstructing my faith. I now have an evolution tattoo.
Thanks, Kent. Reality is so much better. Smooches.

Growing up around people just like these was extremely traumatic. That excerpt of the screaming was nearly my entire relationship with my father -- and the screaming wasn't nearly as bad as the beatings. The slurs were constant. The complete ignorance to what logical thinking actually was. Even now, decades longer, just listening to them, and to the way they condescend towards and infantilize Emma, feels like reliving the trauma as though it was fresh. They are the exact opposite of the loving people they claim to be. The only reason I can watch this is that I know that I am completely out of their sphere of physical influence. The real problem with trying to talk with and debate people like this is that you can't use reason to dissuade a person from a position they never reasoned themselves into in the first place. It's all just unthinking indoctrination that goes back too many generations to count and turns them all into unthinking, unreasoning, hateful clones of each other. I really detest using Us vs Them terminology, but I truly cannot find any part of myself in them at all and the only part of them I can find in myself are all the physical, emotional, and mental scars that living amongst them have left behind.

I am so terribly sorry that you had to experience that. My own father broke my nose when I was seven years-old. My mother had to take me to the hospital to have it reset. My dad wasn't religious (he considered himself an agnostic- in reality, he was an atheist agnostic, but that's splitting hairs and completely besides the point)... although he wasn't religious, my mother was a devout Roman Catholic. On the way to the hospital, my mom told me to lie to the doctor; she wanted me to say I was running through the house and that I fell down. I was utterly confused because my mom had always instilled into us that lying was never right... it was an actual abomination and god would punish us for lying (Satan even had a special place in Hell just for liars). All of this got me thinking as I was trying to make sense of what my mother was telling me... as I did so, I remembered the worried look on my father's face before we left for the hospital. And that's when it hit me: *_"THIS WAS WRONG! WHAT MY DAD DID... WAS WRONG! Normal families didn't hit their children like this... because it was wrong, and doing so could get them in trouble with the police. MY MOM WANTED ME TO LIE SO MY DAD WOULDN'T GO TO JAIL!"_*
This revelation (pardon the pun), completely changed my life. In a single moment, at the age of only seven, I realized that this was all bullshit (a word I knew well because both of my parents used it constantly - even my "devoutly religious" mother). Unfortunately, this experience had zero effect on my father's future behavior... there were many, many beatings to come, that my enabling mother would never stop (even though many of those beatings were directed upon her as well - because of course they were). But, as I said, it changed my life, and started me down the path towards a better understanding of atheism and psychology. I have no degree, but I am an autodidact (I've always had a passion for learning new things that hold my interest - I was intending on getting my degree, but life managed to prevent it... long story). But I digress...
Like you, all I still have those emotional and physical scars that both my parents left upon me... but I _"did not go gentle into that goodnight"..._ I refused to allow them to shape the person I have become (and want to remain into the future). Although my mother refuses to acknowledge any of her responsibility in our abuse (me and my brother and sister - and even her own, I suppose), I was lucky enough that my father did genuinely apologize for his abuse, and he accepted full responsibility for his actions. I decided to forgive him (and I'm glad I did, it completely reshaped our relationship for the short time we had left - he died only 18 months later). I don't let my mother's refusal to accept her role effect me; I've moved on and privately forgiven her in my own way. I have learned that you simply cannot allow their abuse to turn you into what they are. We have complete control over who we want to be, and how we want to engage with those around us. Unless pushed by those who want to be cruel to others (who I will not tolerate, and I'm quite adept and giving as good - if not better - than I get), I try to be kind to everyone I meet. Kindness is the truest path, and will always leave you feeling better about yourself and your fellow man... and I will also allow you the opportunity to meet or discover some truly wonderful people... Emma Thorne is one of those who I feel truly blessed to have found. I also feel grateful to have met you and had the opportunity to listen to your story. I'm thankful that you are not only out of your parent's sphere of influence, but that - like me - you refused to allow it to change who it is you wish to be... and I'm very glad that you have found all of us, and that you feel welcomed into our circle of brother- and sisterhood. A fellowship of learning, rationality, kinship and kindness towards each other; as well as towards ourselves.
Thank you for being the best you you could be, and for holding onto the strength it took to not allow your childhood abuse to turn you into the monsters that your tormentors became (I know exactly how difficult it is to choose the path of kindness when you've only been exposed, and completely raised in the path of irrationality, physical cruelty and mental torment). Never forget that you are a success story, and a true to life superhero.

It makes me smile when YE creationists keep banging on to atheists about abiogenesis, and the origin of the 'big bang'. Two big questions that science has not get got the answer for, though research and hypotheses are ongoing. Why they feel that all atheists should be invested in, have in-depth knowledge about, and desperate for these answers is beyond me. I wonder why they don't contact scientists instead?
I see the same all too regularly with flat earthers demanding in-depth answers on physics, maths, and cosmology from FE debunkers. What is funny, is that they are unable to comprehend any answers presented. When blinkered and invested into their belief, virtually no answer will be good enough. Like Christianity though, we do occasionally see some de-convert with suitable evidence. I found this quite cathartic as well. I was religiously homeschooled for my entire childhood, and Kent's creationist videos were a staple growing up. I struggled a lot during that time, trying to balance meeting all the expectations placed on me as the perceived "eldest daughter" in a large religious family while trying to justify the dissonance that I experienced at every possible level due to my being (among other things) trans. One of the ways I tried to find escape was with science, at least what little I understood of it given my education and isolation from the real world. It was one of the few areas I had approved access to that didn't feel like a minefield of gender roles and familial expectations. I was so excited when one day my family went to hear Kent speak in person, I could not wait to actually meet one of the big "scientific" voices in my world and maybe even nerd out with him a little. When the moment finally came and I got to tell him how much I loved his videos and loved science, all he said to me was "what does your boyfriend think of that?" Bear in mind I was around 11 or 12 at the time, prepubescent. I don't remember much of the interaction after that, I was so dumbstruck and crestfallen to be dismissed like that. But I do know it did not improve from there and I walked away with my self confidence shaken and my first conscious experience of my own objectification. It wasn't all bad though, I developed an aversion to watching his videos after that and it helped kick off my journey away from that whole world.

Welcome to the dark side. Enjoy our fine dinner of Occam's Razor. It is the foundation philosophy of science.
      What is Occam’s razor?
Occam’s razor is the idea that when we try to explain a phenomenon (today or the past) or event (today or the past), we go for the most mundane explanation rather than one that involves extraordinary phenomenon or extraordinary animals or beings such as aliens or gods or alien-gods.
For example, some people have difficulty in believing that the Nazca geoglyphs were created as a cultural product, as symbols made by humans or maybe as symbols for their non existing gods.
Some claim that these are landing zones so that they would serve as a guide for the aliens. Erick Von Danicken offers us the alien version of the explanation. Perhaps he even suggests that the aliens came and guided the humans to build such things. According to him, how could the Nazca people make such 100 m to 150 m long drawings on the ground if they did not have help from a flying space ship people to help guide them from above ground.
Archaeologists reject this notion since it is an extraordinary claim. It is far more likely that they used a small scale drawing and they amplified it and they used visual techniques to draw it properly. Crop circle makers use the same kind of technique.
It is the same with crop circle makers. They claim that aliens did it.
From the POV of a scientist, ....nope. A human did it using standard, well known techniques.
Some claim that the Egyptian pyramids, the various megaliths in Europe and Asia Minor, statues at Easter Islands are made of gigantic stones and that primitive humans must have had help from aliens. Erick Von Danicken is one such person who makes such claims.
His problem is that he doesn’t know about primitive techniques that primitive humans could use and so, he reaches for the “aliens coming from other worlds” explanation.
Christians claim that Jesus’s followers were dumb uneducated people and ask, “How could they have written the New Testament?”.
Their answer is that some alien-god did his magic and gave them magical powers. This claim is even present in the Bible.
Muslims claim that Mohamed could not have come up with the Koran and claim that it came from an alien-god or alien-being or angel.
Mormons claim that Joseph Smith could not have come up with the Book of Mormon. Again, the claim is that some alien-god or a ghost of some kind did it.
Primitive humans claimed that someone was ill because some bad spirit, a devil entered his body.
Some of them claimed that lightning was done by some god. Or some natural disaster was done by some god.
Why don’t today’s meteorologists claim that their god is angry when there is a hurricane? Why do they collect data, predict where a hurricane will hit and inform the people if a disaster is coming?
Maybe it is bc they went to school and understood how the game of science is played and they understood nature.
When police detectives are doing an investigation on a murder, do they ever conclude that some angel, a god, alien devil did it? Nope, since they follow Occam’s razor.
Even if those police officers, those scientists are religious, mostly, they understand that they should not reach for extraordinary claims.
When you want to play the sport known as science, there is a fundamental rule that all parties must obey: Occam’s Razor. Go for the lame explanation, go for the mundane explanation, go for nature.
So when the question is about how life started, scientists look for the natural explanation. We don’t look for aliens and gods.
Who made the universe, who made the stars? In science, we don’t waste time with such questions. We look for evidence and the evidence is always naturalistic.
Religions invest a lot of time and money in building churches for their gods, but they never do research. if you don’t do research, how will you discover what the truth is?
Do research and brings us the evidence for your gods and aliens.

It always baffled me how Christians can be extremely hypocritical in that regard.
All throughout my Christian life a lot of people said often how atheists and scientists were extremely arrogant. They talked about how they asserted to know it all. They repeated over and over how arrogant they were for being "convinced" there was nothing out there. While they would speak with full confidence that a God exists and it was their version of said God.
Even when I believed, I always saw the hypocrisy in it, I was like "you are doing the same thing, you are condemming them for being closed minded, while you are proud to be close minded yourself"
It only became worse, when I realized that most atheists, and almost every scientist do not act that way. Most are willing to say "I do not know".

Both he and Powell are way lowbrow ignoramuses and sociopaths to boot. I am an ex-Jehovah's Witnesses ally (never a JW myself), and they, on leaving the cult are 'shunned' by all their family and whole community, and lose all they have ever known. But they find themselves.
It's the same extreme homophobia in the JWs. Ex-JWs find genuine relationships with 'worldly' people who love them for who they are. The ex-JWs are quite a strong supportive community, too.
I probably gravitated towards ex-JWs because I can relate a little bit personally. I have also travelled far from my family, and had to find the truth about myself away from the toxicity.
I have also divorced, and realised late that a relationship is unlikely to work for me with a man. ( I am pan, and demi-sexual, though). My family is not homophobic at all, but there are other major stifling issues. I have contact with some of them now, though - from afar!
I understand that it's different for you in that the foundation has completely dropped out of the bottom of your world, because you dared to be honest with yourself, and your family including your husband.
Many religious zealots read and memorise, but they don't have the courage to be really open- minded and deeply think about what they are reading in their religious texts. You had that extraordinary courage. You have that integrity, resilience and will-power to make those seismic changes, and want to keep growing as a person. That's why you are hugely inspirational to me!
It's important that people read about the damage these religions do, and for people who are currently emersed, to understand how you got out. It wasn't evil 'worldly' people leading you astray. It was study of the religious teachings and texts themselves.
I can't ever fully understand how it is for you, but I have lived and learned enough to have more appreciation than most, of the enormity of what the words 'starting over' means for you.
I hope you have been able to start forming your family of choice, with people who love you unconditionally, and that you are fully appreciating your freedom. (Albeit during a pandemic!)

I used to watch vids like this back in the first wave of atheist youtube before most of them went off the rails into "anti SJW" and other rightwing nonsense. Its soo nice to have a new generation of sceptics to watch who are actually fighting the real fight once again

@@WhichDoctor1 Same, it was at the time upsetting, but now it's been weirdly comforting to know that not being religious doesn't exempt one from falling into information silos. Which as someone who does try to take a rational approach to my life but is still religious was a helpful thing during a formative time.

I never liked Hovind, but I stopped listening to people debunking him completely because of how repetitive it got. I legitimately believe Hovind is beyond any reasoning or saving, he is not worth any human being’s precious time. He is so arrogant, dishonest, disrespectful, delusional, narcissistic, and brain dead that it actually makes me angry. I’ll be skipping this video but not because I don’t like Emma Thorne (On the contrary, I respect her tolerance for this idiot’s BS).

@@chriscortez2036 I totally understand. Thats actually the reason I tailed off watching Jimmy Snow, there's only so many times I can watch the same person debunk the same arguments from the same people. This is my first Hovind dunking in like 10 years though, I am amazed he's still going. but its literally indistinguishable from the ones I remember from before. He sounds exactly the same, he makes the same nonsenical arguments, he repeats lies he's had proven to be lies to his face, he insults and belittles his adversaries in exactly the same ways. Its quite astonishing. But he's still there and still having people listen to him. So I'm grateful there is a new generation of sceptics ensuring that when someone googles his name most of the search results will be people pointing out what a piece of excrement he is.

@@chriscortez2036 I enjoy seeing the content, but I havnt seen a lot of Kent Hovind beforehand, so I might just not be burnt out yet. He does seem delusional and honestly I think its great you moved on from content that you got tired off, its not always easy to tune it out so props to you

I like how his defense for his dissertation is basically "I didn't actually write a dissertation, I just repurposed a seminar"
