The rear-choke is one on the worst situations you can be from a self-defense perspective and when training Jiu-Jitsu.
There are many techniques to escape the rear choke, but these are our favorite Jiu-Jitsu techniques to escape a choke, and finish with a throw, takedown, control or submission.
4 Jiu-Jitsu Techniques to Escape Choke:
1.) Ippon Seo Nage - a very common judo / jujitsu throw to drive your opponent into the ground. In this self-defense version of the ippon seo nage, we'll use a Combat Jiu-Jitsu stance to drop your opponent.
2.) Osoto Gari - Another very common Judo or Ju-Jitsu leg-trip throw. In this version of the Osoto Gari Rear Choke Self-Defense, we'll use your opponents "action" to step behind him and trip him with the Osoto Gari Takedown
3.) Judo Lock - The judo lock escape is one of the best self defense moves when your opponent has their arms around your neck and is choking you. It is a simple movement that easily gives you jiu-jitsu control over your opponent.
4.) Yoko Wakare - this Ju-Jitsu throw is also a side fall and sacrifice throw that uses gravity to throw your opponent over your shoulder. It is very effective, and quick self-defense takedown.
You will also learn a jiu-jitsu training drill to put all of these self-defense Jiu-Jitsu techniques together.

I've been mugged (attempted mugging) by this kind of hold
It's seriously not fun
Yeah of course .. why not ? Let the opponent's skull break
Please ignore those who claim it won't work against a Gracie black belt...of course it won't. But black belts usually don't mug people. Untrained punks mug people.
I'm definitely adding these to my training.
These techniques can work on anyone. Even Gracie Black Belts
@@professorchaos8407 If you're unskilled it won't, but that's because you're unskilled and fighting someone much better than you.
If you put two people of roughly equal skill, stuff like this will work because while the attacker knows how to stop themselves being thrown, the defender *really* knows how to throw them.
It can work against a professional if you do a diversion, a feint of body
you seem am glad you mentioned this because it's same with any martial arts including aikido aiki jujitsu & jujitsu & yes they have same lineage but it's always same with passive aggressive you tuber who will turn around & saying well try that on skilled fighter or mma / ufc fighter boxer …. & I have said to them listen arse wipe stop crying in your coco pops
these techniques are for self defence on the street you will not get a skilled fighter mma / ufc boxer attacking you on the street or an karateka it's a person who wants too try his luck by taking something from you that doesn't belong to them.... or even your life
but they are thick as fuck ???? that's what martial arts is about ?????
Your dealing with an attacker who aren't skill in martial arts. You want to challenge yourself to attack you with a skill martial arts you have to seek them out to challenge them. You are not likely will be attack by a kung fu shaolin monk on the street.
The best technique I ever saw was when the guy being choked pulled out his lighter and burned the arm of the guy choking him,. The guy doing the choking flew off the guy with the lighter screaming in pain... It was a brilliant move.
then the attacker clearly didn't choke properly which was lucky for the defender, good thing he managed to grab the lighter then. a good choke takes you out in mere seconds and adding panic and not knowing in which pocket you got your lighter and maybe even got to scramble the lighter between your keychain and wallet that might highly possibly already be too late
Beautiful
🤣🤣😂😂
@@Gigakiller1 In real life that guy would have gotten the lighter out of his pocket, but he would have did it in his sleep while he was dreaming.

For real? Good work
BJJ is losing the sef-defense part and moving to sport. Thank you for posting this
A lot of this stuff doesnt work in real life. At least the sport jj is applicable to a competitive sport where you can get some sort of gain or self reward out of your training.
@GeminiJets37 it is
I agree. BJJ is nothing but a sport. Cant be used against multiple attackers. No weapons defence. Very weak
@@sylvanusjoseph1140 no weapons defense? Wrist locks, elbow locks, shoulder locks. That takes it away a and weak? The Gracie challenge still stands. Very applicable. Vale tudo

The sport of MMA has started showing us which techniques actually are liable in a real fight situation. A lot of BJJ techniques I have learned work well in theory but make you vulnerable to strikes, headbutts etc. If you refer to BJJ tournaments as the sport I agree with you.

This straight oldskool Japanese ju-jutusu, interesting.
this not Japanese Jiu-Jitsu. Judo is Japanese Jiu-Jitsu. This is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and is not very effective against most real life situations it may work against someone at your high school or a friend when you’re playing around, but on the street these techniques are almost useless
@@nayoshimatzuwa3479 I wonder what prompted you to reply with wrong information and a non solicited opinion about the art. I know this is bjj, i'm saying it is literal, non dilluted oldskool jiu on a technical level, blurring the line btween the orginal and it's daughter arts.

@@nayoshimatzuwa3479 Judo is not Japanese jujitsu, its judo. Hence the name change to differentiate. Judo has it's roots in Japanese jujitsu but the two have significant differences.
KhronicalTV No it’s derived from Jiu-Jitsu and named Judo because Jigoro Kano said so. There is no difference between Judo and Japanese Jiu-Jitsu. Judo was once called Kano Jiu-Jitsu after it’s founder, and is called Japanese Jiu-Jitsu because that’s where Judo was created. if you actually studied these things you would know that. Unless you want to try and prove me wrong again, stop talking and go study, try Judo it’s a very fun sport and a very helpful tool.

Fantastic moves, thank you so much....
Cool. Thanks man.
Generally, in real life, it are bigger, taller, and stronger guys who will attempt a Rear Naked Choke on smaller, shorter, lighter guy (and on women). A guy 5'6", 130 lbs isn't going to attempt it on a 6'4", 250 lbs guy. Unless the attacker is properly trained in applying a Rear Naked Choke, they will simply try to "muscle" you, try to use their height, weight, and strength advantage over you. So part of defending yourself is understanding this. So it is possible that you may find yourself, in a fraction of a second, with a full Rear Naked Choke on you, with your back arched backwards and your feet off the ground resting on attacker's right hip. While he tries to choke you to death or twist and break your neck. Just be aware of this and keep it in mind. Thus, you must, in a second, get out of this bad situation. So you must pop off his hip and twist, either clockwise of counterclockwise, to get your feet on the ground, and into a solid, stable, strong stance and position. Then .... from there ... you have many options. The proper application of a Rear Naked Choke is you sit the guy down, and you have one knee down on the ground and the other knee up. You properly put your shoulder and head into the back of his head/neck. Applying pressure along his carotid artery to cause him to blackout within seconds. But most anybody who is going to attack you isn't going to know the proper application. So this will give you opportunity to defend yourself. So you must react quickly. Also, you must "Go With The Flow", i..e. go with what the attacker gives you, go with his flow, in the direction he is trying to take you, then use it against him to counter him.
sounds sensible.....if you have a pointed object in your hand like a small knife would that help if you stuck his arm or leg?.which would be more effective

1:36 why didn't u take 2 steps back after leaning forward...then flip him?

Excellent Training video
now show us with a resisting opponent
+RCS 2015 that's what rolling is for and we roll everyday!
I am asking for the technique to be shown when the attacker wants to take control in an aggressive manner. "rolling" on the ground will not show this. By then its more than likely too late. I am well aware this is a drill. I enjoy your videos especially with vlad. I meant no disrespect.
background, kali sikaran, judo, kempo jujitsu, muay thai. 15yrs.
I just saw this response. There are many variations of rolling for us. Ground-based BJJ rolling, or starting standing, or adding strikes, or adding multiple attackers, or adding weapons (knives). We know our Jiu-Jitsu and techniques work because we test them. We are always "rolling" to mirror a fight, and the people who train at my local academy (jiujitsuct.com) know that we roll and train hard; but with respect of course. Oss
@@RCS-qn3no Most of these work if u have the reaction time for your shoulders and chin to clench,if not,the only thing you can do it try to drop down so his arm is on your chin not your neck and then struggle to get out
@@denisflorian2431 im not convinced, im pretty sure if you try escape one against me you will break or seriously injure your neck, the rest where cute, they could work situationally i certainly woulnt call any a cure like the bear hug is to the headlock but everyone has to keep in mind there is a certain point of no return to these types of moves. your asking this guy to defend from a shit shoot: what do you do after youve been shot in the leg? well capitan, id try my damdest not to get shot again.
let me summarize the video for yall:
keep your chin tucked if they beat your chin your dead: if they dont then they have no choke; so stop d^cking around and counter offensive. if your being overpowered by a crank, use the attackers shortsightedness for a one time attempt at a hip toss or leg trip.
note: it is probably more reliable and more versitlie to train the bear hug as a counter over the toss or trip, the way i will use your momentum against you could be the diffrence between incapasitation and death,as in if you do stupid stuff like escape one "ippon seo nage", the force you create against my force may just kill you. the hip toss or trip could work but its a one try and if you miss then your odds go way down meanwhile you gave your opponent an opening when you moved, if you can turn enough to step in for a trip or pivot your hips enough for a hip toss, you should be able to make the smaller step to face your opponent in the bear hug, the hardest part will be to slip the shoulder, fortunetly your oponent will help you do this, you give them the chin space for the choke by moving your shoulder as they compress to take it you have the window to move your shoulder, they may catch you halfway through, but this will minimally remove there leverage and create an opportunity for something else. an opportunity, as in there is no perfect formula for victory. if you put my suggestion to the test dont worry about over squaring your opponent and remember if your neck faces the opposite direction there is no choke, and when you hug you lift and fold. oh and your oponent can be in any kind of wonky position when you preform the bear hug dont limit yourself. just literally pick them up and fold them.
all this said i mean no disrespect to the teacher and i thank you for your video i hope you will consider my thoughts on the subject, as i believe you would agree escape one though simple is not effective against intermediate opponents and possibly dangerous against an advanced opponent.
I just unholster and shoot
Hope you appendix carry, cause if your at the 4:00 position it may be a little difficult. And I hope you train to manage the stress of someone trying to choke you to death while un-holstering your pistol. But as long as you do that there will be no reason to tuck your chin or try to control the choking arm at all
@@tritacacademy I'm not a clean fighter and we're not trained to be clean. We're trained to get the job done, but cute demonstration.
We're not "clean" fighters at all either. But if all you rely on is groin strikes, eye gouges, and other so called "dirty" tactics, you are going to be in for a very rude awakening if you are ever in a real situation. Hell, they even taught me basic grappling the the Marine Corps...why would they teach "cute" techniques to warfighters? Mmm, we may never know.
@@tritacacademy You're not saying eye gouges and groin strikes are ineffective, are you? LOL
If that is all you're counting on and ignoring control and every other aspect of fighting and defending yourself, then yes they would be ineffective. Will be mighty hard to eye gouge someone with basic understanding of controlling the human body.
But of course you can always spice up an actual technique with a groin shot or something, just don't rely solely on "dirty" tactics

The last one is great too. Good Job!
Thank you for the video and the 4 avenues of possible escape. I am a striker with martial arts experience in Wing Chun and some Judo. My step-daughter who is going to travel abroad approached me and asked me about self defense moves from an attack from behind. I told her the key survival tip is situational awareness at all times so as to not be completely vulnerable from an attack from behind. Many women find themselves being pulled into an awaiting van with abductors using that method. Do not allow them to get you in a full rear choke lock, you're pretty much done for if that happens, even an experienced martial artist who finds himself in that situation only has seconds available.
Excellente!
