    Beignet...beigniet...spellcheck... beignet! Those are phenomenal.
Cinnamon syrup with college football marching band-meets-Dirty Dozen Brass Band. Taste and sound perfection.
And after we type that, you get a football. Perfect.
Looks just as fun as New Orleans, but it appears we can bring the kid!
Totally get the trash issues. Ugh.
Yardi Gras? If you're musical, porch concerts!
OK, you have my stomach now with that seafood. And world-class two-hand technique.
If we can pull it off (probably not this year), we should meet up after Thanksgiving at the Bayou Classic in New Orleans. A big chunk of the craziness of Mardi Gras without the debauchery, and the music is INCREDIBLE. It's when Grambling & Southern play the most storied HBCU football rivalry, but the battle between the bands is JUST as bonkers. Worth going for the INSANE music as much as the football, and there is an amazing party atmosphere around it the day before as well.

he only had a couple, cuz he realized he didn’t love them. 😂 soooooooo much litter! and they had people and massive street cleaning trucks picking it up right after the parade, but still… all that waste! happens at so many things: NYE celebrations, Coachella and other music festivals. as a society we love stuff for stuff’s sake, and it’s really problematic. Even Stephen with all the goodies he grabbed. It’s fun, but then what? It was part of the reason I just wanted to watch the next parade from the van. we don’t need a bunch of trinkety junk.

Mobile is not the originator..First Mardi Gras in Mobile was 1703
The first American Mardi Gras took place on March 3, 1699, when French explorers Pierre Le Moyne d’Iberville and Sieur de Bienville landed near present-day New Orleans, Louisiana. They held a small celebration and dubbed their landing spot Point du Mardi Gras. (Some argue the port city of Mobile, Alabama was actually the first to observe the event.)
In the decades that followed, New Orleans and other French settlements began marking the holiday with street parties, masked balls and lavish dinners. When the Spanish took control of New Orleans, however, they abolished these rowdy rituals, and the bans remained in force until Louisiana became a U.S
