Because of UK gun laws most of the gun on the streets of the UK are very old. So when UK Rappers say Vintage/Antiques they are usually referring to guns.
'Bahrain links' is referring to people he knows in the country Bahrain who can supply high quality gold. A vintage stick is an old, classic gun. Agarwood Oud is perfume/fragrance/aftershave. :)
Uk had a rap scene back in the day, Hijack, Gunshot, Silver Bullet and Derek B spring to mind. We also have the sound system MC''s, the likes of Smiley Culture, Papa Levi, Tippa Irie etc from the Jamaican diaspora. Well worth checking out.
You always look so happy when you listen to these men. It's such a pleasure to watch. My first time hearing them was when you posted your first reaction and I feel the same as you about them. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and knowledge.
Incredibly appreciative of the way you break things down and the passion that shines through. Rap and hip hop as a whole is all about expression and passion and the whole community can come together over the best of the best. It's very inspiring. Edit: Oh, are the Irish ones you got recommended Kneecap or Rubber Bandits by any chance? Highly recommend both!
You ought to check out The Old Estate with the boys and UK rapper M24, and Vibe Chemistry "Baddest" (the video) which is a collection of UK rappers and the boys owning it at the end! Glad you still going down this rabbit hole. Think you found the best of Brits with Ren and Pete and Bas. See folks already said what a stick is (used the word in Slap the Stick, of course) - but great bar - vintage sticks -blast from the past!
You wanna hear some female uk rap? Little simz tracks gorilla and venom.. u will not be disappointed..if u have reacted to her already,my bad..if not, enjoy.
I can already guarantee people are gonna recommend your Kano's, Ghetts', Wretch 32, Akala, Dave's of this world so imma go for someone who's severely underrated in the UK and that's: Dappy... he can literally do it all musically.
Cockney Rhyming is the 200 years old grand grand grandfather of rap. US rap is a Brooklyn orgin stuff , which the split in to many local versions with west/east cost, Atlanta/southern style etc. But mono recitation is millenia old. And that is how one gets rap in China , Germany or Poland.
This song n Goodfellow are my two favorite songs they have for just chilling and relaxing Vintage sticks blast from the past it's old school guns such as the ones that have a revolver on them etc❤ For some reason I always remember peach line on that song they did about being on a holiday in the beach, 'spin around like the barrel of a bing for me' is vintage stick with the revolver on it
91shots & Handsome Dexter, rap also. Check them out….Nine & Dex - Pecan Pie. As for Pete & Bas, I suggest checking out The Generals Freestyle or Browns (if you can find Browns, RUclips shadow banned the song).
Vintage sticks, blast from the past = vintage guns The crew is the Snooker Team… most of them rap in Windowframe Cypher Part 1 or Windowframe Cypher Part 2
Those other people are what they call the 'snooker team". You'll find them on the songs called "windowframe cypher" part 1 and 2. By the way, I always enjoy your background information on the culture.
"Vintage sticks, little blast from the past..." 👉👆🔥 FIRE bar!! Also: "Talk to tha platinum hands on my time piece, boy, cuz tha face ain't listenin..." 🔥👍🔥
I suggest you do a deep dive into uk the hip hop scene , the uk has been the spiritual home of lyrical hip hop for many years now , no mumbling allowed , only bars allowed , lyricism is what is promoted over here , you have around 30 years of quality artists that you will absolutely love , there are 2 main platforms to start with , fire in the booth with charlie sloth and daily duppy , both of these are a good place to start as they are full of pure quality, dive in and enjoy !
Don't think anyone has mentioned Cristale x Teezandos Plugged in with Fumez yet, but they're a great example of the freshest uk hip hop. They're amongst the youngest upcoming artists here, still pretty raw and street. Other female MCs in the UK (who are nothing at all like the current big female rappers in the US) that are worth diving into are Little Simz and Lady Leshurr. Simz is really, really good and her video for Gorilla was made by Dave Meyers who you'll know from working with Missy Elliott.
Sounds like it's the opposite over there from here, meaning most of the new young artists here, at least major label artists, suck. I'm looking forward to this, thank you 👊
The lads in the back are the Snooker Team (Norman and PKJ from Northern Boys are part of them). They appear in the background on some other tracks, including Bish Bash Bosh and Mr Worldwide. If you react to Windowframe Cypher 1 & 2, you'll get to meet them properly.
I see a lot of people explaining sticks is a gun but it comes from an abbreviation of 'boom stick' (a shot gun) and obviously vintage is old. Maybe check out Skinny man Roots manuva Task force Rodney P Black twang Klashnekoff Stig of the dump M9 Jehst Skitz (country man) Rhyme asylum Foreign beggers Freddy krugar Leftfield Tricky 👍
Thanks for your reactions - they are always an education. If I may repay that education in small part, first, a UK artist you should definitely check out is Little Simz. "Gorilla" and "Venom" will blown your mind. Second, the "Pete and Bas Creation Myth" is just that. Nine and Dex are not their grandsons. And their backstories are just stories. I have the receipts ... mostly.
For old school uk rap...check out Risky roadz videos you'll find skepta wiley ghetts etc all big rappers in the game. Also Fire in the booth with Charlie sloth many of uk best on there going way back....Also Fumez the engineer set...has many uk rappers on there a favourite of mine is the all female night....theres just to many to mention...its a whole other world
Yo Jared if you want some more rare UK hiphop suggestions, in the north of England there's been a good history of hiphop that isnt really influenced by drill or grime. Id recommend Lee Scott and his associates in Macabre Bros, Hok Tu Down and Children of the Damned, Bill Shakes and Braintax. Think youd dig some of it
Just a list of some of the UK legends....... Skepta Ghetts Kano Chip D Double E P Money Wretch 32 Akala Wiley Lady Leshurr JME Little Sims Bugsy Malone and there's more. We have had B-Boys and B-Girls and Hip Hop culture here in the UK since 1984 and have been rapping since 1986. Over here, lyrics, bars, and flows mean everything to us in rap.
'93 Snoop Dogg dropped his LP?! I am so old and I am listening to hip hop for a longer time, than I thought! 😂 Good old days when you had to get LP from a music store and you had to import some music, cause it wasn't allowed in your country. Thinking about it now, it made it so much more special and you had great social interactions with real people... Nice reaction! Have a good one! ✌🏻
Cockney rhyming slang, imo, original Rap as it flows, i.e. Apple and Pears = Stairs, Syrup - Syrup of figs = wigs, Ruby - Ruby Murray = curry, Jimmy - Jimmy Riddle - Piddle = weeing. Language created so policeman didn't understand the London, market traders etc. I love your reactions, thank you for sharing.
Ren played a video from his favorite UK female rapper, Lil Simz, during a live stream. She reminded me of a mix of Missy Elliott meets Lauryn Hill. Please react to Little Simz, either Gorilla or Venom or Introvert. Gorilla was the song Ren played during his live stream where i fell in love with her.
Snoop's version of loddy doddy was more remix than cover. He changed verses to keep with the times. Like changed "forgot the cango" to "forgot the endo" cango is a hat endo is a Marijuana reference
True, there are minor revisions to lyrics but the core definitely remains the same. Most rap remixes are completely fresh lyrics over the same beat, I feel this is still of of a cover or perhaps reinterpretation is a better word. Just my opinion tho.
Handsome Dexter and 91 shots are their nephews if I'm not mistaken. They're also rappers themselves they go as Nine and Dex when they're rapping. They're dope. I want to see what you think about one of their new songs off their album. It's called Goodfella. It's a totally different type of beat. A couple of reactors didn't like it. I love it. Reminds me of one of those summer jams of the mid 2000s. I really want to see your take on it. There's no video so you'd have to pull up the lyrics on the Rap Genius website.
There was some decent rap groups from UK in the 90's, not many as most were trying to sound american and it didn't work. But Hijack and the London Posse were decent.
Slick Rick, Young MC, Monie Love originally from South London, Doom from East London. RUclips and the likes has allowed the crossover that has always been needed. It’s a shame that the late 80’s/early 90’s acts like Hijack, Gunshot, Demon Boyz etc never had this platform to crossover. Westwood has been one of the greatest link to showcase these artists, both UK and US since the late eighties. Check out DJ Supreme RIP. Love your breakdowns.
I had no idea Young MC was from London. I still have most of not all of that dudes first album Bust A Move memorized lol. He also wrote some major hits like Tone Loc"s Wild Thing and some others if I am remembering correctly. 👊
Oud is a very expensive resin (worth more than gold) extracted from agarwood and it is used in perfumery. Think of Tom Ford 'Oud Wood' or Amouage 'Interlude'. Very expensive fragrances. It's just Bas doing his daily flex.
There is a wealth of talent in the UK. I'd highly recommend checking out: The Four Owls Jam Baxter Lee Scott (you may find the dialect tough though) Chester P Ramson Badbonez King Kashmere Black Josh
@TheLVME Pleasure, man. I enjoy your channel and the way you break things down. You can see that you have a real love of the culture and I've always got time for that. 🙌🏻
Sticks are guns, so vintage stick will be old gun and that is a blast from the past. Oud is a scent component in primarily middle-eastern perfumes, it's a very woody scent, but it's getting a wider popularity now.
11:49 Do Pete & Bas Plugged In With Fumez next please! Their best track IMO. Lovin the channel and reactions, keep up the good work! Stick- UK slang for guns also cigars. Bahrain links - style of lings for chains, like Cuban links. Jacaranda- type of tree with purple flowers. Ie good weed Agarwood eau- very expensive cologne
Akala's also very old school in his conscious ethic outside of rap. He's been involved in some awesome takedowns of out of touch politicians and people promoting division. He really echoes the origins of hip hop when it had something to say and was using the platform to speak power.
You need to checkout these uk rap artists. Santan Dave! Fredo! Avelino! Wretch32! Clavish! Central cee! French the Kid.! Just a few fire UK Rappers to start you off!
You want to really know where it all comes from? Go to Wiley, D Double E, MegaMan, So Solid Crew, Roll Deep Crew, then hit Kano, Devlin, Dave, Akala, Dizzee Rascal, Skepta…and many more…also Ed Sheeran was originally a rapper before he began singing.
Agarwood Oud is super expensive perfume (oud) made from the Agarwood tree sap, like frankincense. They're flexing with high-end style. Mumbai gold and Bahrain links would be gold that is never less than 22k. Singing about flexing on uber-rich style while getting measured in a high-end bespoke (custom) tailor. Old man flexing. Nothing as cheap as Gucci. Love Bas's turn around of the old saying someone's bark is bigger than their bite (all talk, no action). Instead his bit is bigger than their bark, big dog. In other words, he doesn't waste time talking, he just acts.
I think I have mentioned this before. Avelino Dave Ghetts Stormzy Ocean Wisdom K-Koke Mic Righteous Akala The guy Drake owes his career to,Dappy All just as good Pete and Bas
I'd love for more Americans to check out "Kak Hatt" but he uses so much slang that it'll sound like a completely different language to you. Also thanks for dropping some og hip hop knowledge. I knew a little bit about Slick Rick but I didn't realise he was THAT influential
“Vintage (old) sticks (guns)”
“Blast from the past”
Word! Thank you 👊
Sticks more offten=shotguns/ sworn off's
Because of UK gun laws most of the gun on the streets of the UK are very old. So when UK Rappers say Vintage/Antiques they are usually referring to guns.
In my mind it also fits in with the numerous times on other tracks that Pete refers to *himself* as a Luger, cuz he's also vintage, but still potent.
'Bahrain links' is referring to people he knows in the country Bahrain who can supply high quality gold. A vintage stick is an old, classic gun. Agarwood Oud is perfume/fragrance/aftershave. :)
That artwork is so cool, I'm so sorry you lost your brother, I'm glad you're using his artwork, it's amazing and it keeps him close. Love from the UK❤
Thank you so much 🙏👊
Love your reactions. I can't wait to hear your reaction to Golf!
Thank you! I have Golf on the list now
Yes🎉 they tell a bit of their story in this song
those in the background are the snooker team, pete and bas' crew

Potter pauper and Dave is all you need
Who remembers Tower Records
i love your enthousiasm for the genre, thank you for all these snippets of rap history and your insight into Pete 'n Bas's lyrics
9:32 "Sticks" is UK slang for gun...
'That was a blast from the past' means 'that was something I'd forgotten about from the past'. Sticks, blast, it's also about dynamite🧨💥😆

My favorite song of theirs! Finally!
My favorite from these two.
Vintage sticks, blast from the past = vintage guns
The crew is the Snooker Team… most of them rap in Windowframe Cypher Part 1 or Windowframe Cypher Part 2
Ah ok now that bat makes more sense, thank you. "The Snooker Team"? Hadn't heard them either, dope! 👊✌️🙏
Those other people are what they call the 'snooker team". You'll find them on the songs called "windowframe cypher" part 1 and 2. By the way, I always enjoy your background information on the culture.

I suggest you look up Basil Preuveneers . Bas is classically trained on the piano and plays the melodys. He has free jazz piano only albums.
I will do that, thank you 👊💯
"Vintage sticks, little blast from the past..."
