    Great video Kris. There are some magnificent fully mature specimens at a garden not far from me, it’s a real spectacle to witness the sheer size of these babies when they’re fully grown.
    After years of hunting, I’ve finally managed to acquire two genuine manicata at the ridiculously low price of £12 each. I’m giving up the front lawn for them 😂

    Thanks Chris. I’m looking forward to seeing my main plant this year, haven’t fed yet but it’s 17c today and very humid, mild weather on the long range so feeding this weekend and going to push her this year as I’ve really built up manure and my own compost over last three years and I reckon this year will be really special

    Very clear explanation of the differences. The two are much the same in New Zealand as your plants, although I think G. tinctoria can get bigger. A recent paper (Shaw et al. 2022, A new spontaneous hybrid in Gunnera subgenus Panke (Gunneraceae) widespread in the British Isles, with notes on the typification of G. manicata) says that material cultivated as "G. manicata" is actually a hybrid named Gunnera x cryptica. Again, the same may be true in NZ.

    I actually prefer the tinctoria I love the Jurassic look and feel. Had it about 10 years on the edge of a pond. It’s about 5ft high 7ft wide so guess the pond is feeding it welll. . I’d still like a manicata if I can find room for it. Thanks for the information at least I know not to sell any.

  • @seth7745

    Many of the comparisons on the internet are confusing as they have me convinced every specimen I look at is both tinctoria and manicota. However If I am to go by the revelation in this video that manicata has no red in the stems or veins, I can only conclude that a true manicata is simply not available in the US unfortunately.

  • @shannonspencer4001
    @shannonspencer4001 Год назад

    Ok, so I might have a hybrid Manicata and tinctoria. White veins, M size height and leaves (it’s still young), T shaped leaves and compact blooms. I thought it was T, nursery (CW-Washington state - US) just said Dino plant.
    As far as I know it’s legal to grow T here. I started propagating last year, but I want to clarify which it is before giving/selling any. I wish I could share pics lol.

Leaf mulch, well rotted horse manure and chicken pellets is what I have available would these be suitable, is it possible to over feed a gunnera

    Hi Kris. Great video thanks. I have had my Manicata for 15 years. Its late July and it is large but many stalks are now collapsing under the weight of the leaves, which normally only happens in the Autumn. What has caused this and do I just cut them off at ground level? Your advice would be much appreciated, thanks.

My colocasia gigantea and others are doing amazing in this set up so I figure the gunnera will to I keep them all well moist bat guano mixed in h20 or super thrive for a watering once a week but not a ton otherwise it’s straight h20 any pointers?
