  • My boys loved ToyJoy's 3D Dino Puzzles but they were a little too young at four and five to fully enjoy them. I got four eggs and four dinosaurs, I think using the eggs to store the dinos is a great idea. I also want to mention that I was provided a sample for review purposes. I do all sorts of reviews and what follows are my honest opinions and thoughts about this product.
I had heard of the Velociraptor (thanks to Jurassic Park) and the Brachiosaurus but the other two were new to me. I would like to have seen stegosaurus, triceratops and especially T-Rex. These are the ones I remember from growing up. T-Rex is the quintessential dinosaur and was missing from this set...bummer but the Velociraptor looks like him, enough to fool my kids anyways.
The puzzles are actually quite tricky, as you have to fit some parts into other parts before you join them with other parts. You can make these puzzles easier by just breaking them into four or five different parts and then let the kiddies put them together. There are lots of tiny pieces, so this is not a good idea for a child who doesn't yet quite comprehend that he or she needs to take care of all of the pieces. My boys wanted to put them together and play with them and the dinosaurs started coming apart and I quickly found pieces all over the floor. They sort of disintegrated in their hands. Again, my boys were four and five and this product is recommended for children ages 7 and up. I would even go a little higher, like 8 or 9 as they not only need comprehension but also manual dexterity skills.
My wife also had a good point as well, she didn't think many 8 or 9 year olds would be interested in a dinosaur toy. I think if your child is into dinosaurs and puzzles then he or she would really like these. An 8 or 9 year old would not be interested in these as dinosaur toys but rather would be interested in them for the tough 3D puzzle. An 8 or 9 year old would also be careful enough to properly store these in the egg and not to lose the pieces.
The build quality on these is fine, they are just painted plastic pieces. They are a soft plastic, so they have a little give which helps when you are trying to pop all of the pieces together. You also have to look at the price that these are being sold for, at $3 a dinosaur I don't know what more folks would expect in terms of build quality.
My boys really liked them and it was fun to help them put them together. The puzzles are tough enough that they would be a good challenge for an 8 or 9 year old and they could put the dinosaurs on a shelf and display them instead of breaking them back up and putting them into their egg.
