I was always kind of shy. The one thing I was always asked is “Why are you so shy?” “Why don’t you talk?” For the longest time I felt as though something was wrong with me for being shy and quiet. I thought people hated me for it but I understand it’s natural to be curious and they might just want to help you open up and are just being friendly. But sometimes you feel like people take advantage because when your quiet and nice they think they can push you around. It took a while for me to actually become more assertive as I’m a naturally just want to make everyone happy. I’ve been treated bad by people I once thought of as my best friends. And bullied by some guys in my grade. They only knew me for being shy and never thought that I can be kind, funny, or have any other qualities to me. They didn’t try to know me or didn’t care to. Years down the road I realized some people I went to school with just weren’t the kindest people and I don’t need to change anything about myself. Some people will judge you without knowing who you truly are and hate you for no reason. And none of it has anything to do with you but with them. You realize that the fact that you aren’t just shy but also strong, brave and willing to stay kind in despite of everything is where your power lays. I wasn’t planning on writing this much but I had a few things to say on the subject. I love your videos by the way and your courage to be who you are inspires me. I love seeing my goofy music loving hot topic wearing dad thriving. ❤️

Like, I felt so out of place. Once, everyone is saying bye to each other, by names. Everyone's name is mentioned, except me and I'm sure they're aware of it bcs I'm there. (you know I was eavesdropping bc I needed the answer to #24) now whenever I see them in the hallway I want to congratulate them on their courage but I’m too... shy. Fun shy story: I have social anxiety and am known as the quiet girl, but also as mom. (I won a character award last year and they opened with “Though she’s very quiet and kept to herself...”) One time, I was just feeling great and was singing with my friend. She has started our next song to sing, and not too long after we had the whole bus singing Ice Ice Baby. Everyone’s screaming died out after the first two lines until it was just me. I honestly didn’t realize that no one was going with me. So shy, quiet, small mom is in the back of the bus rapping the HECK out of Ice Ice Baby until I hear people start cheering before they all came back in for the hook. I got lots of pats on the back and high fives.

omg i hated 'surprising people'. i didn't want all that extra attention. like when people would say, 'omg ive never heard you talk so much," it was embarrassing when people would say that stuff to me. Like there i was, 'in my element,' (as jessie put it) and i was really feeling confident enough to just be myself regardless of who was around me, and then I felt like the shy label was being thrown in my face or that i was exposing too much of myself all at once. i really hated that, it made me feel so uncomfortable, as if i was doing something that i wasnt allowed to do.
I would just like to acknowledge the fact that Disenchanted was Mikey Ways favorite song off The Black Parade. He fought to have it on there. At night, he would go up to the guys in the band and whisper "disenchanted" to them while the slept.

I just wanted to say thank you for giving me the courage to talk to a doctor about my mental health and I am now taking medication for my social anxiety and depression. I am a little nervous but I’m ready to start feeling comfortable with myself again and find maybe just a placebo to put me in a better frame of mind. Much love!!
One thing that I highly suggest doing. JOIN CROSS COUNTRY!!! Idk if every school is like this, but everyone is so nice, and after the first 2-3 weeks, running doesn't hurt at all.

I've always been very very shy and I get so tired of having trouble simply ordering food or stumbling over my words to the point I'm full on stuttering at times or when people ask me to repeat myself because my voice is so tiny and high-pitched that they don't understand me I don't know how to be extroverted and I have this extreme fear that if I am extroverted people will think I'm blunt or mean or not like my sarcasm or my full personality you know what I mean. I personally am not a shy person but my best friend is super shy and she's definitely worked with it more as we got older but when we met in middle school it was because we hung out with the same people and I didn't care for their drama and she kind of got left out because of being extremely shy to the point where she could barely open her mouth to talk.. when we connected though it's become one of the deepest and most treasured connections I've ever made. We're 18 now and she moved away and we're still best friends. We balance eachother out and I've loved watching her open up through the years so this video made me emotional. Jessie I was so happy when I came home and saw this video because today I had an all school retreat and felt SO lonely because of my social anxiety and shyness. I also felt more insecure than usual because I hadn’t showered. I spent a lot of time hiding in the bathroom. I used to eat my lunch in the bathroom every day but someone caught me and now I eat in the library. Also this is my first year of high school. I felt very alone today (and all the time) and this video helped. Also Home work is really stressing me out. I was homeschooled for almost all my life before this. I just have a hard time opening my mouth and pushing out what I want to say. Also now’s as good a time as any to tell the internet I’m pansexual and struggling through feelings for girls at my catholic school. I just wanted to say thank you for giving me the courage to talk to a doctor about my mental health and I am now taking medication for my social anxiety and depression. I am a little nervous but I’m ready to start feeling comfortable with myself again and find maybe just a placebo to put me in a better frame of mind. Much love!!
One thing that I highly suggest doing. JOIN CROSS COUNTRY!!! Idk if every school is like this, but everyone is so nice, and after the first 2-3 weeks, running doesn't hurt at all.

I've always been very very shy and I get so tired of having trouble simply ordering food or stumbling over my words to the point I'm full on stuttering at times or when people ask me to repeat myself because my voice is so tiny and high-pitched that they don't understand me I don't know how to be extroverted and I have this extreme fear that if I am extroverted people will think I'm blunt or mean or not like my sarcasm or my full personality you know what I mean. Like I'm 18 years old I should be able to speak up for myself but I have so much trouble doing so

I really appreciated the first benefit you pointed out. I personally am not a shy person but my best friend is super shy and she's definitely worked with it more as we got older but when we met in middle school it was because we hung out with the same people and I didn't care for their drama and she kind of got left out because of being extremely shy to the point where she could barely open her mouth to talk.. when we connected though it's become one of the deepest and most treasured connections I've ever made. We're 18 now and she moved away and we're still best friends. We balance eachother out and I've loved watching her open up through the years so this video made me emotional. So as an extrovert, I appreciate this and you for making it. Shy people rock bless y'all.
However drama still did happen but that's because we were in middle school and didn't care much of drama and the people we hung out with got upset because we drifted away from hanging out with them as much. They didn't take it well. But do what makes ya happy you beautiful people!!❤

Jessie I was so happy when I came home and saw this video because today I had an all school retreat and felt SO lonely because of my social anxiety and shyness. I also felt more insecure than usual because I hadn’t showered. I spent a lot of time hiding in the bathroom. I used to eat my lunch in the bathroom every day but someone caught me and now I eat in the library. Also this is my first year of high school. I felt very alone today (and all the time) and this video helped. Also Home work is really stressing me out. I was homeschooled for almost all my life before this. I just have a hard time opening my mouth and pushing out what I want to say. Also now’s as good a time as any to tell the internet I’m pansexual and struggling through feelings for girls at my catholic school. If anyone actually reads this and wants to be internet friends I’m always open and I promise I’m not usually like this but depression hit me hard today. (Maybe I’m just PMSing.) Sorry for ranting but I just really need someone to talk to and I actually have no one. Thanks for the good content Jessie!
