Another Joni Mitchell cover song - to start off the new year! Happy 2023!
11 years ago, I sang the same song, on my debut, "Kami Maltz" show in Tel Aviv.
with long hair and accompanied by an upright bass only, I decided to give this song I liked my best shot. (and I think I might keep making different versions of this song as the years pass by - a little way to reflect on my own life - Billie Eilish Vanity Fair interviews anyone?)
Did I get the deep meaning of the lyrics? watching the video briefly now, I think I didn't.
I think I was more focused on singing nicely and engaging with the crowd.
Nowadays, an older person with a bit more life experiences, I think I get it better.
People change, life changes you and your perspective, goals and dreams shift or fade.
The older we get the more we understand - that we know nothing about this thing called "life", and I think this is essentially what Joni meant in her lyrics.
I hope 2023 brings good health, joy, and fulfillment to you all!

Since you like the comment I'll elaborate a bit. This is a really personal song for me, I also played it at my mother's funeral in March last year, she loved Joni Mitchell. The version I played was from the Tallest Man On Earth, a fingerstyle guitarist that I try to cover often. It felt like the perfect song connecting both of our tastes. This kind of choked me up a bit because it's such a good song. You delivered it with a great deal of sensitivity in your glassy smooth voice with gentle vibrato, and you're beautiful too. A song can define a life and it can change a life. It's all about the song.

Wonderful - you have discovered the great Joni. You could try TurnTurn Turn (words from Ecclesiastes) written by Pete Seager. Listen to the version by another great female singer Judy Collins. There is a wonderful video on RUclips of Judy and Pete singing it together - sublime. One of the great songs of the 60s made famous by The Byrds.
