Cheap Cloudlifter Alternative For Your Sure SM7B - Manayo DM3 In-line Preamplifier
So in this video I'm testing the Manayo DM3 inline pramp with the Sure SM7B and I also give a comparison with the Triton Fethead.
If you don't think that there's much in it between the DM3 and the Fethead, then this may be a good option for you instead of paying a lot more money for a Cloulifter.

Me: "OMG... am I a clown?!?"
*Realizes I've never owned an SM7B*
*sigh of relief*
Great vid as always Dave!
Alright, Wayne. You're defo not a clown and defo not now of those "jump on the bandwagon" channels. However, I'm a clown because I get the Cloudlifter and Fethead mixed up 😂 Cheers, Dave.
I checked the prices and it definitely is a cheaper and just-as-good alternative! I liked your ending 😂 cheers!
Alright, Tone. Yes, depending on what in-line preamp you look at, this one is either a bit cheaper or massively cheaper. And the difference between it and the Fethead isn't something that anyone would notice when listening back on a phone, tablet, laptop etc. This one, because of its price, would be a great option for extra gain for someone with a cheaper dynamic mic, such as the Behringer etc. This would give a budget setup better noise performance during gaining. Cheers, Dave.
Sounds really good for the price.
I have a regular fethead and another that is for condenser mics. I definitely would opt for a cheaper alternative now if a good solution was available.
One thing about the fethead design is that it can put pressure on either your mic of audio interface if it's not positioned right. The cloud lifter is better in this regard, but it's much bigger and requires an additional XLR cable.
Cheers.
Kevin
Alright, Kevin. Yes, that's the choice you have to make with these things, less cabling with convenience on a fixed setup, or more convenience with an extra cable for a setup that's not fixed. Don't forget though, you can also use a second XLR with a Fethead etc.and have it sit between two cables like the Cloudlifter does. The only reason why I've connected these things directly to the mic, is so that people can clearly see which one is being used in the shot. My use of the Fethead is to have it connected at the camera end and while it definitely odds a bit more bulk to the XLR input on the camera, it doesn't cause any problems as the camera is always in a fixed position. If I were moving these things about, then yes, as you say, using the extra XLR cable helps to reduce the possibility of accidents at either end with something bulky hanging off an XLR output or input. Cheers, Dave.
@@DavidHarryUncut I initially used it at the audio interface end, but it was getting in the way so I know connect it to my XLR mics directly and then put the XLR cable into it 👍
Thanks for the review. Good stuff!
😂😂😊 class mate more great info and well presented
Nice one, Chris. I've done a bunch of test videos that I'll put up over the next week. However, I'm thinking about getting that Samsung Flip 5, so will do a few vloggy things with that if I get it. Cheers, Dave.
@DavidHarryUncut class look forward to it
using dt990 headset i can hear very well and the Manayo was better then the fethead for cheaper so idk what people are smokin
It sounds good from here. Nice price too.
Hi. Yes, it sounds fine but isn't expensive. I think the problem that these cheaper in-line preamps have is that a lot of people buying an expensive mic will probably think they need to also buy expensive peripherals and may not buy a cheaper alternative, because it is cheaper. For cheaper dynamic mics, then I think it's less of a stress buying a cheaper preamp, as you probably don't have that question "What if" hanging around your head. Cheers, Dave.
@@DavidHarryUncut I agree, and IMHO 99% of us need little more than a XM8500.
Where’s the H Mr David? :)
Do you think there is a difference in sound between sm7b made in Mexico and China?
Don't know, I've never had both.
SE Dynamite DM-1 knock off
Yes, total rip.
