  • This video is not a new autobiography by Fr. Mike Schmitz. It’s about everyone’s autobiography, which is-in a word-the crucifix. Jesus' dying on the Cross sums up every person’s life story because it shows what our sins did and God's power to forgive them, so our lives can be defined by love and not shame. This Good Friday, let God’s sacrifice be your identity.
    Fr. Mike is also a presenter in these faith formation programs from Ascension:

    Secular society wants us to transform shame into selfish desires. We're told happiness is the essential goal for a worthwhile life. Whatever is expedient and comfortable and easy is good. But the truth is that our shames are only quenched by selflessness, and best when that selflessness is in Christ.

      Mike Cranston, it's true that all people can be nice to each other regardless of religion, we understand that "if i'm nice to others, others will be nice to me." But really only merely nice. Mother Teresa gave her everything for the poor, Maximilian Kolbe gave his life for a total stranger, and Jesus pleaded for his Father to forgive his murderers as he died. They loved, so "love others as you would like to be loved." As Carlos said, it's in selflessness, self-forgetful love that our hope and dignity is renewed, and this is possible only through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.

    • @nataliabenoit4653
      @nataliabenoit4653 6 лет назад

      Mike Cranston so of course your redeemed but what we have to do is practice that redemption as Jesus will judge based on our love He will show us our life look for Gloria Polo she died and came back lol not as Jesus did but she was atheist and now is a good catholic..my point is if you love and follow the sacraments as Jesus said "those who eat my flesh and drink my blood will never die" John 6 says this its a garuntee but must be worthily taken if your catholic you probably know this so ignore my advice but try reading her experience its very compelling

    What a special message... How do we even fathom something so profound? Father Mike so beautifully and painfully describes how each of our sins affected and afflicted Jesus and how ashamed we should feel... But only because of God's enormous mercy and love for us is the cross (crucifix) not a sign of shame but a sign of hope and redemption. Alleluia! Praise be Our God!

But what strikes me most is that He went through all that pain and torture and he did not embrace bitterness ir anger...He simply accepted all that horror silently, obediently and lovingly for my sake. Lyrics to a song I sing , especially when I feel down :
    I am somebody, because God loves me. I am accepted just the way that I am. His love is higher, it's deeper and it's wider. More than you or I will ever understand.
    I remember hearing this song back when I was a protestant, it's appropriate for all Christians. I will be Catholic 19 years this Easter. Never got baptized until I came into the church at 30 years old.
    I tried to get baptized for as long as I can remember, but God had a plan.
    God bless you Fr. Mike and everyone this Easter.

How ironic that this day two years later is just the day before this video was posted? A shout out to my university president Fr. Dave Pivonka! Hearing Fr. Dave in person speaking of this heavy cross, Jesus, "transforming the sign of our shame to become the symbol of our hope" was inspiring and this video was a great and much-needed reminder of it. No offense to anyone, but I'm baffled that any Catholic would consider it a negative thing to be "religious"??? I know it's "hip" and "cool" among Protest-ants to decry "religion" as somehow an impediment to their definition of "faith".
      But we should know better. Christ himself gave us The Church and our Religion. Why would we be ashamed of anything Christ gave us?
      No offense intended. God Bless All!!

    • @thenovice3602
      @thenovice3602 6 лет назад +1

      Tom Landry Well, there’s a difference between religion and your relationship with god. Religion is following a set of rules or laws. But having a relationship with god is different because it’s not a law or a rule; it’s simply done out of love and reverence. That’s how I view it as a Catholic. =)

    • @f1sfingb0at
      @f1sfingb0at 6 лет назад

      The Novice Jesus said true religion is taking care of widows and orphans... rules are for governments and board games. The dos and don'ts God laid out for us are for our benefit ("that you might live", or " that it might be well with you"),see?

    • @TomLandry1
      @TomLandry1 6 лет назад +1

      The Novice - respectfully, Brother, I don’t believe I said religion was the same as faith, or in any respect a replacement for, or substitute for, a relationship with Christ.
      All I’m saying is that I’m not ashamed of anything Christ gave us, and among those gifts are The One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, and the Religion we practice.
      “Lex Orandi, Lex Credendi“
      (IMO) That’s what “Religion” is.
      No offense intended.
      God Bless You!

    This is so coincidental to me.
    I was just reading Dr. Jordan Peterson's 12 Rules for Life, and in the 2nd chapter, he speaks of Adam and Eve and their self-contentiousness of their nakedness; and how nakedness is a sign of shame and, really, a nightmarish thought to be exposed in public. To be stripped naked is one of the most degrading actions to person.
    So at 3:29 -- wow, that revelation stuck hard. 'Cause it makes what he endured twenty times worse...

    What a very powerful and moving edition. Thank you Fr.Mike and Ascension Presents. Jesus Christ, God Incarnate, bears all of our sins and failings. None of us are worthy, but for Him. That first Easter weekend, when He was tortured, humiliated, mocked and jeered and beaten beyond all comprehension. He died for each and every one of us unworthy sinners. Each of us need to pick up our cross and to try to bear it as best we can. He will help us. He is always there. We just need to have faith and to try to live by the commandments and the rules set down by His church. God Bless us all.

    During the movie "the passion", all that He suffered, each thing, I would say to myself those are your sins,He is paying for; then after the resurrection, you can feel that permeating love when you see that. There is a poem by e.e.cummings....I carry your heart. I will say that as part of my prayers. Fr. Mike, I am a convert of five years now. I spent over 50 years as a southern baptist, many of your homilies have helped me to understand more clearly. I also have been blessed with a great parish and priests who never tire of my endless questions. Peace be with you!
