'Cantigas de Santa Maria' always takes me to a dimension where old memories are brought to life. This song, played specifically on this beautiful instrument, evokes dreamy and nostalgic memories in me. It's as if I can remember an age I was there... an age that was lost in the sands of time. Congratulations on your performance, and thank you for sharing this cute moment.
Thank you for listening. The melodies are so ancient but somehow sound familiar too! It's wonderful to share the music with folks! Wishing you a Merry Christmas!
An amazing instrument. Such a range that it is really several in one. Mesmerisingly played as always. Love the acoustic Elizabeth. I can't get that sound from my several CDs and hi-res files. Thanks ever for these mini concerts!
Thanks for listening Guy! 💕I was a bit worried about how this one would come out. I was determined to present all the different colours the gittern is capable of, thanks for noticing these subtleties! Your kind words are greatly appreciated! ✨
Lovely piece Elizabeth and the new instrument really captures what we imagine a medieval instrument sounded like. I guess the creature on the headstock keeps the Gittern safe at night ?
Interesting. How difficult do you find it to switch instruments, especially here where some passages are played with a plectrum? Is this four courses? What is the tuning?
It was tricky! Especially as the recording shows up everything in terms of string noise and added quill blips! Plus, I had to be very creative with what I wanted to present as the original is just a single line refrain and stanza. Coupled with the basic tuning system of a gittern, - 5ths - it was a challenge to turn the tune into something captivating that could engage the listener! 🤓
Wow the tone of this instrument is really mesmerizing.. wonderful playing 😊

Thank you David! Yes, he's my tamed beastie! The original can be found on the end of a pew in Worcester Cathedral! 💕
