    My glock fits perfectly in the secret compartment even with the 15 round magazine sticking out of the bottom an extra inch and a half or so. I hate how i have to park kinda far back at stoplights, if i actually stop at the line i have to lean down to see when the light changes -_-

    I have the same issue with the vents, it’s because of the stiff suspension, driving over harsh bumpy roads causes the vents to drop down or out of your preferred position. Other than grease on their hinges not much we can do.
    No oil temp gauge, rattles and creaks, 17” or higher wheels makes it a harsh ride on stock suspensions.... but I still love it lol

    I have 2012 r56 plain jane cooper. Alice (her name) is chili red w/white roof 6 speed manual has 134,727 miles . Sunroof works great used almost every day.
    Visor yes same problem . I love side visor. For ac vent moving i cut business card as a wedge ,no more moving ! AC works great over 100 degrees all last week.
    Secret compartment was shown to me by sales lady. She is the best car have ever owned . Never broke ,never in shop.
    Oh yes had to get rear deck replaced and repainted as well as rear bumper. Was hit by a guy on motorcycle looking at his cell phone. YES REALLY!
    So Alice was in the 2014 mini takes the states ,daughter and I did it starting here in new mexico. It was the best !!!!!!!! I LOVE MY MINI !!!!!!!!!

    I have a 2013 GP and I don't have the sunroof problem or the secret compartment problem lol. (Car has neither). The sun visors are small but I live in Seattle where we have no sun. Also the car is from Florida so it has a nice tinted strip across top of windshield. That's probably the best solution.

    My main beef about my r56 is the lack of gauges. I need a water temperature gauge. I would also like an oil pressure gauge. I don't care about how many miles I have driven in one trip. Luckily Marshall makes aftermarket gauges but they are EXPENSIVE.

    For the vent eyeball. A small piece of self adhesive Velcro loop material. 1/2-3/4 inch section. Roll the eye full up or down and stick it to the round plastic as far in as possible and this will stop the lose fit. I had to do this on my 2005 Coupe, 2008 Clubman, 2011 S, 2012 Convertible. I now only have a 2015 Paceman S, 2013 Roadster, and my daily driver S and had to do this on the S.. Thanks for the videos, and not selling your MIni. We now only have three Mini’s just sold the Convertible, and all of your dislikes are absolutely dead on. Panoramic roof rattle when it’s open, but not opened all the way back.

    I understand that each vehicle has its own individual imperfections, and my 2011 R55 is no exception. It only shares #4 with yours, but I imagine all mini's suffering from those little sunvisors. Mine has other issues. The 3 biggest ones for me is the rubberized volume know is falling apart, my HVAC screen is cracked internally, and I personally hate with a passion the big ass speedometer in the middle, it's absolutely pointless and ridiculously in size.
    Oh and with it being clubman, I get the "you know you have a backup light what, right" everytime I put in reverse.

  • @mikeymk9091

    My list of things I don't like...
    1.) Hard to keep the engine sealed up (valve-cover gasket, plastic thermostat housing warping, crank sensor o-ring and front/rear main seals being a common re-occurring repair.)
    2.) High repair costs at the stealership
    3.) No gear indicator for manuals (the 2017 I test drove does have one, not sure which year this went in)
    4.) No rev matching in sport mode (again, 2017 has it, wish mine did)
    5.) Needing to install/maintain INPA software or buy a 180$+ code reader to do basic maintenance (What do you use for a code reader?)
    6.) Rattles, rattles everywhere.

    Yes. I agree on most of these. I’d feel more comfortable using the sun visor without the vanity light but I’d love to cut off the power. I don’t really want to see myself when driving either. I tried a couple of tape jobs with hockey tape (nice mesh tape but melted) and duct tape which also broke down into sticky loose tape.

  • @MikeCincoCapas

    How about the fact the turbo charger melts and warps the hood scoop? That happened after about a year for me. I put extra heat shielding over my turbo.

    Air vent fix - use the Velcro tape - loop section with rear tape - cut small strips 20 to 30 mm long by 15 to 20 mm wide and place on top of each air vent - vents become a little harder to adjust but stay in place! No more dropping!!!!!

    Hi. How reliable would you say mini' are, and how easy are they to work on? I am considering buying one but I am not too familiar with the engines. I have owned VW' Jetta' (MKII & MKIII), Audi A4, and a Honda CRX and worked on them all myself. I want something that I can drive daily, do the occasional canyon run in, and maintain myself for the most part but I also don't want to have to fix something every time I turn around. There is something appealing about the mini though so I'm trying to do my research. Any advice you have will help. Thanks!

    • @BimmerDude
      @BimmerDude  6 лет назад +1

      Hey man thanks for joining the Group! Well Josh that question is entirely dependent upon the previous owner of your car. If you have mind to do preventative maintenance you can own a mini. Alot of the issues that plague this car are simply to the "ill fix it if it break" mentality. You simply can not own a mini cooper and have this mind set. It is 100% a rewarding experience to own and drive one of these cars, but also one that will test your resolve. Since you have own cars with a FWD layout you are familiar with the belt setups etc. while yes theres far less room than a CRX in the engine bay BMW did do a great job at creating serviceable positions to allow for repairs. All in all I'd say do your best to locate a low mileage one and apply that "I can do it cheaper myself" attitude that honda boys have and you'll be alright

    • @joshuaabernathy3661
      @joshuaabernathy3661 6 лет назад

      cool. Thanks! What would be considered Low mileage for a mini? I see some with 80k-125k miles for pretty good prices.

    • @cyberzombie038
      @cyberzombie038 6 лет назад +2

      Just too add in, if you're looking into a R56 mini I'd recommend a 2011+ model. It has the N18 engine which is relatively more reliable but harder to tune than the N14 engine from the 2010 and earlier. I currently have a 2012 R56 with and 82k miles no major fails except for a pcv fail at 75k miles. Finally If you are the diy type I recommend getting the bentley manual. It's kina expensive but it has almost everything you need to know about 2nd gen minis both specification and maintenance wise.

    The hop-up of the sunroof issue, occurs to a lot of cars.. The tensioner below the "arm" on the open/close mechanism gets loose and it hops up by the air pressure when some door is closed.. Sometimes it can be fixed, sometimes it's just wear

    I have an ‘08 Mini, and I do have issues with the sun visors-both driver and passenger. The covers broke off so I cannot use it while driving without taking the cover off. I leave it on so the lights don’t come in. But as soon as I try to open it, it separates itself. Dealer says it’s $350 to get a new one which includes the installation. Eek!
    Also, the small compartment I have heard of having issues, but I am quite lucky I do not have those issues.
    As for the engine though, I have had issues this year. In June I had the valve cover and gasket replaced. Then this month, I am having the oil filter housing leak repaired along with the coolant tank. Since I have been going to a dealer to get repairs done, they were willing to cover 40% of the oil filter housing repair. Despite these issues, I still love my Mini. However, I am considering buying a brand new 2019 cooper S hardtop. Any thoughts on this new model? Thanks for reading my post and I enjoy your videos which is inspiring for me to DIY some of the repairs.

    Haven't had that issue with the vents sagging down so that might just be a wear issue/ cheap plastic issue. As for the sun visor I just assumed it's cut short because it was designed to match the curvature of the roof and not interfere with the side visor. Definitely could've been longer though.

    The sun visors are traaash lmao. The passenger side mirror flap just hangs there, but the entire mirror and flap has come dislodged from the visor on the driver side. The clips that hold it in are broken, the mirror cover, flap is loose, and the whole thing just falls out of the visor of you open it. I've gotten used to wearing hats 😂👌🏽. Then the little parts where it attaches to the ceiling have come out too, I've had to replace all the screws and the driver side one is still a tad loose. It's an 02 with a ton of miles but still

    Dude! My number 1 - the window switch/power port/console cubby/cup holders. Lets put two people in the car, each with a 32oz drink, your favorite radar detector is plugged in to the outlet between the cupholders.... Now in order to roll down the windows, you must blindly finger the gap behind the cups to hit the switch, and how about that cubby hole - quite literally impossible to access (at least with my giant hands) without unplugging whatever is plugged in AND moving at least one of the cups. --- Wait, what about using the 'dish' area between the seats as storage. Well now your phone and whatever else ends up caught up in the e-brake boot. It. Drives. Me. Insane. Also, for the record (and it probably is a record), I have a 2010 Clubman S that I daily drive and I am 6'10. Yes. Six feet and ten inches tall. LMAO

    I’m 6’3” and I got my very first ones like over six years ago and I’ve been in love ever since. Just the fun factor and being about to maneuver through traffic easily is the best if you don’t need to haul around a lot of ppl. I’m never driven an S model my previous was a base and my current one will be a base engine but I’m excited to see if there’s any difference in feel between very different model years. The one I’m getting has the turbo i3 engine and is by far the newest thing I’ve ever had the pleasure of owning. I was considering the Countryman but the ones I could afford were selling so quickly so I just went all in on a 2015 cooper base that appears to have the navigation in it even though navigation isn’t listed in the description which will be a plus if it does have it when I actually get to see it in person. It doesn’t look aftermarket or maybe I just got lucky and it has the look of the screen or something. Already ordered all my replacement led bulbs and all weather floor mats and I plan on using plasti dip to black out the trim.

    That sunroof popping up is just air pressure, all the cars I've had with a sunroof do that, Volvo S40, Cadillac CTS, Subaru... FIX is easy: Just pull down a window when closing any of the doors then pull the window back up.

  • @ryanhannawacker6111
    @ryanhannawacker6111 6 лет назад

    Sunroof moves to release pressure inside car. Air is forced in when doors are closed causing more pressure. The window moves and releases enough air to equalize pressure.

  • @adiotd
    @adiotd 6 лет назад

    Bruh you're pushing on the part of that secret box thats closest to the mechanism, it's not registering the pressure.
    If something opens from the top (swings up) then you gotta put pressure on the bottom to engage the opening mechanism. Bottom left in this case. The part of the "door" that's a little curved and extended.

    Typical MINI problems... I’ve had two R56 (s and just a), R55 S, and a F55 Justa 5 door.
    Here’s my do not like list for the R series.
    1. Passenger mirror doesn’t not dip when transmission is in reverse like my F55 and my BMWs do.
    2. The sun in your left eye from the useless sun visor.
    3. No temp gauge.
    4. Wheel arch trim clips that like to just break for no reason.
    5. Almost impossible window adjustments on the doors.

    1) Weak timing chain tension system that caused my mini to eat itself :( (fixed now though)
    2) The fact that in the EU BMW wont replace a faulty HPFP for free but they will in the US.
    3) No temp gauge - Would love to see someone do an install video.
    4) The worst sun visors ever.
    5) The way the plastic on the blower and temp controls tarnishes.
    6) Oil consumption.
    Despite all this I still love my R56 Cooper S.

  • @CieloDelAstra

    It looks like his windows are opening when the doors are opened to allow the air to escape when closing. This excess air pressure will find the weakest spot to push on. The air vents are probably a victim of temperature. My Mini is a 2012 and even in the Texas heat all these years they still don’t do that. I think you got a Monday or Friday car.

    Mini is not a car that will last long. As most of mini models has high pressure engine and using silicone seals, you will have oil leaks after 70-80k miles. The worst leak is on crank shaft bed. No need to mention leaks from oil pan, turbo, turbo intercooler and valve covers gasket.
    Other ticking bomb is the turbo itself. Expect to replace it around 100k miles as well.
    Last but not least is the timing kit. It is weakly designed and needs attention around 80k miles as well.
    On top of these, body parts are expensive. Engine compartment is so compact which requires more labor hours for a repair than other cars.
    I recommend to drive a mini till 50k and let it be someone else’s problem then.

  • @jeffreyhurst9552
    @jeffreyhurst9552 5 лет назад

    None of those items bothered me or they didn’t occur. Like others, I found the Mini to be expensive to own. We did love the way it looked and drove (2010 R56 S).
