Very good advice, feeding schedules, temperatures, etc are only a guideline. You have to watch your bird and adjust accordingly. I was able to successfully hand rear a single tiel whose parents weren't good sitters watching your videos. Hand feeding is definitely an art and takes experience, time and patience. Thank you so much for your advice!
Love coming back here to double check myself! We have a new baby!!!
I just love watching you and I have just started to watch your videos
Well, welcome to Bird Squawk!
Your videos are so much helpful for me to know how to take care of chicks and about feeding them, and obviously you are doing a lot of hardwork in there nursing the chicks with different ages. I'm expecting more videos from you and All the best Kevin brother.
Thank you for the kind words. Click on the bell icon to be notified as soon as I post a new video.
@@Bird.Squawk And I was having a doubt regarding how to react when power goes off during incubation, and how many hours can a egg be healthy without heat. Kindly help me with this. Thank you.
@@aravindmuthusamy5383 I've experienced this only a couple of times. Luckily it was for very short period each time and it had little effect on the aviary. But, we are prepared with a back up generator of something would happen and we would need power for a longer period of time.
@@Bird.Squawk Ohhh, then I've to prepare something like that here too. Thank you brother for you kind reply🤝
I’m so going to follow your advice
Thanks for watching! Kevin
What to do if the mother of the bird abandon her egg? Right now I have an eggs for the first time my lovebird got an egg and she doesn't really give time to sit on it.
purchase an incubator if they fail to sit on the eggs part of the second clutch
I just candle mine we just saw heart beat moving in the eggs it was so cool.
Where can i get the syringe attachment to use for feeding hatchlings? And do you just keep the food in the syringe? Or do i need to make fresh food each time
great help, thx just got 3 eggs now......
This is really so helpful, I've been feeding my birds just like you have suggested, and they are doing well. They are 4 days old now , and doing good, this time I really had to help them hatch, the parents incubated them but were not taking care of the babies and they were getting cold so I had to take over, I have experience with hand feeding, but your videos give a definite and clear understanding of the process.
Thank you. 🙂
Wonderful! keep us posted on the babies. Kevin
@@Bird.Squawk sure ! 🙂
I just had a question, do I feed them through the night as well ? cause that's what I am doing, I finish their last feed at 4am and feed them again by 9 am and every 2 hours after that, they are 6 days old now.
@@tinkabell39 yes I do. That way they only go empty once a day.
@@Bird.Squawk Thank you 🙂
So should i take a newborn from its parents? Will they feed it on their own? I bought food for the newborn baby bird and i haven't given it anything in about 24 hours and it's still alive so i dont know.
I think you described everything as hatching cockatiels for dummy’s book! Love it! I was nervous until I found your videos. I do have a question. What temperature should the incubator be at?
Do you feed newly hatched cockatiels overnight??
I love ur videos
Thank you!
How long does a newborn bird take to poop..
Love your videos, do you let the parents feed the chicks? or , do you do all the work?
That's a great question. If the parents will sit on their eggs and hatch their eggs and then feed their chicks then I leave the chicks with the parents for approximately 2 weeks. At that point I pull the babies and do all of the finishing hand feeding and weaning myself. We find that it's been our experience that this results in the tamest babies. On the other hand, if I have parents that will not incubate their eggs or will not feed their chicks properly I pull those babies or eggs and incubate and hatch them myself from day one I will do the hand feeding. I have many videos showing this process.
Hey man i love your videos they’re really useful. My questions is when do i take away the eggs to put them in an incubator without the cockatiel mother going into chronic egg laying and also can i use the incubator as a brooder. Would love a reply thank you.
This is cool
Hi, it's my first time taking care of a 13 day old ,I am worried because I feel that the parents hurt him because, when I first saw him he looked healthy and sitting and now he curls up, please help me, I am so glad that you are making videos, I really appreciated 😊😊
How long after hatching do you need to feed them? Mom passed have 4 eggs due to hatch any time
I few hours. Then keep that up around the clock. Going to be a lot of work. But, I'm sure you can do it. Kevin
@@Bird.Squawk I do hope so to. Unfortunately 2 didn't hatch like they should have. However I have a very much alive and kicking little budgie. 1 is questionable still unfortunately. Hopefully regardless of the out come I hope this one makes it atleast. It's been 30 years since I've raised one from an egg and wasn't even expecting to and to top it off forgotten how to. But here I am learning all over again. Lol needless to say I have my alarm set for every hour and a half just to make sure it will be alright.
@@Some_Chick howd that go
How old are your birds when you put a band on them ? Mine are currently sitting on eight eggs.
Hi, thanks foe yr vidios, very helpful,
Wgatvto do if baby alrwady hatch but there is yello not absorbed yet,?
Hello can i reach you i want to learn what incubator and what you feed while they 1 day old
I really could do with some advice. I have baby thats been abandoned by its mum and i am hand rearing. Never done it before. Just wingin it. So on this chart i downloaded it says that at a week old it should be eating 2ml of food!! Thats a lot!! 1 ml fills its crop quite a lot! Help, is this ok? By the way your videos have literally been a life saver
I have a video on how much to feed a baby chick. it goes into great detail about how and how much. Each bird will be different. Watch that video and then lets talk. I'm sure you will still have some questions, but this is a good starting point. You got this!!!! you can do it! keep me posted. Kevin
Informative video! Just a quick question, I got 2 baby african eye-ring lovebirds about 13 days and 16 days old. I feed the small one 2.5ml and the big one with 2.5-3 ml of feeding of formula since I see their crop bulging in that amount , is it enough food for them? I'm torn between feeding them too much and not feeding them enough. 😔
I did the same thing with my lovebirds. I would watch their crops. When their crops seemed full slightly stretched I would stop feeding. I would monitor each bird to see when they're close to being empty. Once I saw that the crop was not empty but almost empty I would again top them off with formula. Every bird is going to be a little bit different, so it's hard to put a number on how much to feed. Watching their crop and making sure that it doesn't go empty but once a day will yield the best results in my opinion. It's been my experience that wants the birds get pretty full they start to kind of back away from the syringe. Now that's not with every bird so again I think monitoring the crop is the ideal solution.
@@Bird.Squawk Thank you so much for the information! 😊
what do you use for formula ?
Enjoying the videos.. I just a have a question. Where did you buy/get this brooder? Where can I buy that one from?
Amazon. Search MagicFly incubator.
Hi There,I was wondering where do you buy your syringes?
Just recently got back into raising birds again now that I'm retired.
Love you videos!
I have lost my supplier as well. I'm currently talking to a manufacture about making them for us. Problem is I have to buy a very large amount. I will keep everyone posted. Kevin
Hey, so my cockatiels recently gave birth to some babies. The first 3 of them are taken care of perfectly by their parents and they are very healthy. The fourth and last baby though, is about 10-11 days old, yet looks about the same size as a 2 day old baby. Its parents aren't feeding it, so I have bought a formula in order to hand feed it. I haven't seen any changes for about 3-4 days now, the baby hasn't gained any gram at all. This morning it was also very difficult to get it to eat for some reason, and after a long time it ended up eating only a little bit. Anyways, is there anything I could do to make it grow, or should I just be patient and hope that overtime it will start growing? Any advice is appreciated, thanks.
Sad update: my baby died a few hours ago. I opened the nest so I could feed it and found it dead in there... Rest in peace buddy 🕊🕊
Sounds like you're doing everything you can do for it. Keep it warm! make the food a little runny. Keep it warm! did I mention keep it warm!.... it really is key! you're doing all you can. good luck Kevin
@@Bird.Squawk thank you!! I have kept the baby with the rest of the flock in the nest since its parents haven't rejected it, so it's always kept warm. Good news is that it's responsive to its parents entering the nest and it tries to eat, but sadly, its parents can't quite pinpoint where the noise is coming from so they feed its siblings(but I saw its dad feeding it some time ago, only for a few seconds). I'll try to change the temperature and texture of the formula to get it to maybe eat better. Again thank you for the advice!
What syringes are those
Hello bird squawk Where did you buy that syringe I've been looking allllll over for one just like that one thank you!!!!!!!
We also lost our supplier. I think I have a line on getting more I will post when I find out..... Kevin
I can leave my bird in the incubator at what temperature?…
Very nice
I have a 29 day old parakeet that mother and father don’t seem to be doing anymore … should I supplement with formula?
what kind of incubator do you use
please share link
What should we set up the temperature when the parrot’s baby just hatch?
I set mine at approximately 98° F
I have a pair of cockateils that consistently lay infertile eggs. Am I doing something wrong? My other 2 pairs are raising chicks
Not knowing the absolute complete story behind the pair you're talking about. The first thing that comes to mind with my experience if I have a hen that's laying eggs but they're infertile do I truly have a male with that hen. So that's the first place if you've had it DNAed and you know that the test come back as a male then there's something up with that male He's not happy. From McCall's to love birds over 30 years I found out that it's the male that we have to make happy He's not getting the food he likes he doesn't like where his cage is he doesn't like something. And then sometimes I'll take a male and just put it with another female and they start sometimes he just didn't like that male or that female so several avenues to go down here first Are you sure you have a male with that hin
@@Bird.Squawk they raised one clutch then every clutch after that has been infertile
@@Bird.Squawk I have dna tested them
@@Bird.Squawk the male is my first teil I ever got and he bored to me but he also has lived with this female for over a year
@@Bird.Squawk I have 2 other pairs. One pair is raising a clutch of 2 then my other pair are his parents. I didn't know if you could breed mother to son so I didn't put them together
Wowww sipag

What is the perfect brooder temp in an incubator. For a 4 day old cockatiel?
Not sure there's a perfect temp. But, I keep mine in that 95°F range. Watch your baby to see if this temp works for it. Does it seem cold, or hot. Too red and panting.... Too hot .. white and shaking... To cold. They're all going to be a little different. Thus my first comment. Not sure there's a perfect temp.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for watching our videos .. Kevin
@ 3 or 4 day old seems to have something that feels gritty in his crop. I cleaned his crop out but I have not been able to get the gritty stuff out . Parents had other babies that died. This one looked like it may not make it so started feeding it today. It's being kept in my Janoel 12. Bowel or abdomen seems abnormal . Any suggestions? These parents have had successful babies in the past two clutches. I am not sure why they are loosing babies this time.
Hard to answer why they're losing baby's. But I have seem parents feed solid food to babys. I always make sure the parents have a lot of fresh clean water. It help soften the food making it easier for the parents to feed and the chicks to digest. I've also seem baby's eat the nest box bedding.
@@Bird.Squawk Thanks for responding. Yes I think that the parents have fed babies solid food because I have felt seed in thier Crop. They could also have eaten nesting material. I am not sure why this had happened since they have had other babies the grew to full size and were healthy.
@@mariem7250 Sounds like you're doing everything right. keep me posted.
Can we keep the parrot’s baby inside the incubator?
I keep my newly hatched babies in the incubator at approximately 98° F for a couple of days. Then if I don't need the incubator for other eggs I'll let the baby stay in the incubator and start slowly reducing the heat.
@@Bird.Squawk how many time should we feed the baby in a day ?
@@heangseavheng1028 you will need to feed them as many times as you need to in order to keep their crops from going empty. This will be different for every bird! so you need to monitor your bird and feed it when the crop is almost empty, then top is off with formula. The crop should go empty once a day, but only once.

Can the babies breathe in that incubator? I want to purchase a brooder for my Quaker parrot babies and was looking into this one
I raise a lot of babys in one of these. Kevin
Do you have cockatoos for sale
Plz what is that formula? My chick 13 hours and parents did not feed it yet
I have 2 3 weeks still hand feeding .
My cockatiel just killed there 5days old baby and am here learning how to handfeed the other siblings ❤️
In my opinion you've done the correct thing by pulling the other chicks. You'll need to keep them warm, you also need to have hand feeding formula. My suggestions would be watch some of our videos. I think I did a video a few weeks back on everything you need to get started. I think it kind of walks through my setup. Good luck

@@Bird.Squawkfor 3 days I was handfeeding a cockatiel,I've hand fed before but for some reason this one died I feed it every 2 hours idk why it died
Hi
I have 2 baby cockatiels.I have been feeding them for 7 days, but they still look the same as they were in day 1.toda 1 of them died suddenly, even though he was better than the other one. I was feeding him and suddenly he took a deep breath and then he died. Can u tell me what made this incident happen? And why are my baby cockatiels not growing?
First, sorry to hear about your baby. Its hard for me to tell you what's going on with your baby's. So many factors come into play, temp of the baby's, temp of the food, how often you're feeding. how fast your feeding. the list really goes on and on. My best advice is to watch the videos. there's a lot of information in them. Then think about every step that you're taking... is something different???? Its been my experience that your baby asperated while you were feeding it. And if you think that this hasn't happened to all of us at some point...... keep thinking. Watch the videos, slow your feeding down... take your time.. not too much food at once. hope maybe some of this helps. don't give up... Kevin
What you give eating.? Name please
Currently we are using Exact Hand Feeding formula.
@@Bird.Squawk my food is nutribird a21 and 4 day is dead. What you recommend
@@Diamond-Des there are so many things that it could be the reason your birds are dying. It's impossible for me to guess. My suggestion would be go back and watch our videos start from the beginning watch everything make sure that you're doing everything as closely as the video suggests. It could be food, it could be temperature, it could be feeding too much, it could be not feeding enough, it could be the way you're handling them, there's so many things that it could be there's no way to answer that question.
What humidity should the incubator have?
I keep mine around 50%. What kind of babys do you have. thanks for watching our videos. Kevin
