I have seen the lights in Fairbanks Alaska several times, and in September and March. It was awesome, but there were a couple of trips in which I saw almost nothing, due to either low solar activity or overcast skies. Great video!
Thanks! Glad to hear you’ve had such positive experiences with seeing them overall! It’s such an incredible spectacle and wishing you many more successful aurora trips in the future too 🙌🏾
Yesssssss! I’m so excited for you! I loved Tromso (got a separate video on it you might find useful) and it’s absolutely a great time to plan your trip for. Got my fingers crossed for you that everything works out in your favour 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Great video. Thank you. I’m wondering how successful cruise ship excursions are. Do you know of anyone who has experience with northern lights cruising?
Thank you - really glad you enjoyed. I’ve not been on a northern lights cruise and don’t know anyone who’s tried it unfortunately. For me, I think the key would be choosing one where they have a decent itinerary of activities as sightings can be so unpredictable. That said, I think it could be a great idea for seeing them in quite a few different locations on one trip!
Have you experienced the Northern Lights - what's one thing you wish you knew before you went? If you haven't and are planning to - where are you hoping to see them? Let me know in the comments.
KP index is not a good way of measuring activity, As its based on the previous 3 hour average, So normally apps or websites that use the KP index for alerts occur after the event. Its better to use Substorm growth and expansion levels, that use the magnetometer stackplots
That’s amazing! 🤩 👌🏾I’m assuming you didn’t plan your trip around it though? It’s amazing if you get a late / earlier display but I wouldn’t want to encourage people to count on it.
Hi - I do mention in the video that the season is broadly end of September to end of March, so yes - if you have the right conditions you can see them in Tromsø in mid-October 😊. Happy aurora hunting!

Is it possible to see in May 8, and May 22, 2024? Which app can forecast the day and time ?
Thanks
Sorry but generally May is too late in the year - the season broadly finishes in mid-April 😔
We saw them tonight May 11 in America 💫💫💫

@@thediscoveriesof thank you so much 🥰🥰
You’re welcome ☺️ 🙌🏾
Why all this ado about the nordlys?
For many people, it’s a bucket list experience that brings them joy. Nothing wrong with that.
@@thediscoveriesof if you say so yourself it must be right. I like St Elms better.
