  • Final analysis of the Trevor Jacob crash. Or what youtubers are calling the Trevor Jacob fake plane crash. Was it staged? No. Pilot and aviation youtuber Trevor Jacob was sucked out of his plane when the door came open in flight.
This is totally not a hoax to get views using clickbait and pulling a stupid stunt like the internet claims, this was a legit failure and my boy handled it beautifully. He is lucky to be alive. Thank God he had those fire extinguishers stuffed in his pants. Pilot Sucked (out of his plane) Trevor Jacob Crash

As an ex-skydiving pilot, I can attest that the 'suction' effect is real. Every time I opened the door on the 182 at 10K, all 4 pax would get sucked out. It even happened when I had an engine out on a take-off roll. Aircraft trundled to a stop halfway down the runway, I opened the door, and out they all went!

Sorry to say, you've got this all wrong... If you look closely, you see the ghost of his friend grabbing the prop and holding it still, while the engine, torn from its mounts spins inside the plane and causes it to over pressurize. Trevor, the great pilot he is, notices the problem in time and pops the door open to vent the pressure. Unfortunately he didn't open it far enough and the plane pressurized to the point that he got blown out anyway. Poor guy, he tried so hard to save the plane, the plane that survived for so many years, until it got in the hands of Trevor, who even though he is one of the best pilots out there, was not able to save it.

Clicked on this video just to criticize the clickbait title. How wrong I was! I had gotten so accustomed to tying my shoelaces around the rudder pedals as taught by my CFI back in 1976 that I actually had forgotten the reason for doing it. Now that I’m old and retired and only wearing loafers I totally spaced out on how unsafe I’ve been lately. With only a seatbelt and a single headset cord to hold me in the plane, I hate to imagine what could have happened had I failed to latch the door. This video may have saved my life. Thank you so much!

Private pilot, can confirm... during my flight training I once reached for the tiny little window vent on the canopy and my instructor immediately death gripped me. Without blinking he made direct eye contact and said "do NOT open that vent... it'll suck your arm out and you'll never pull it back in." I was terrified... he was serious... To this day I super glue all the windows on every plane I fly.

I KNEW there was a reasonable explanation for this. I had assumed that the film was running backwards, and he actually hopped from the mountain UP into a runaway empty 'plane, thereby saving everyone on the ground and removing the possibility of a destructive brushfire. Because he's a real hero and all-around "Xtreme Dude Bro To The MAX". And hella modest about it too.
But suction makes much more sense. There is definitely major suckage at work there, that's for sure :)

Great analysis of this event. One key thing I think you may have missed: You can see at time he is actually pulling back and forth on the yoke pretty hard. So not only is he clinging to it to stay in the plane as you mention, but the yoke actually acts as a pump (think bicycle pump). So he is desperately trying to pressurize the plane using this emergency pump built into the plane. As you can see, these small emergency pumps don't work all that well as it only gets him a few extra seconds.

You can never be too prepared and freaked out. Many airline crews thought of bailing out at the first sign of trouble, such as the Qantas A380 crew that had an engine explode. But they didn't have the foresight to be wearing parachutes, and had to resort to good old fashioned recovery procedures.
