    I found it interesting that Rory’s bob haircut in college immediately gave her a look of maturity that coincided with the irresponsible decisions she was making. People finally started being harsh on her because she actually looked like an adult who could take responsibility for her decisions instead of the perfect, innocent, long-haired doll she was before.

    I noticed that while Rory's hairstyle change alot over the series run, Lorelai's and Emily's hairstyles stay pretty much the same. That tells me they're set in their ways and in their own worlds and neither will go or return to each others. It is Rory that's growing, experimenting and move back and forward between them.

    I think it's interesting how in season six when Jess comes back into her life her hair changes dramatically the two times she sees him. The first time she has bangs and slightly messy curls when he confronts her about dropping out of Yale, then when she visits him in Philadelphia her hair is strait and pinned, a lot like it was when they first got together. It was almost like she was trying to return to the person she was back then.

    • @cv8499
      @cv8499 3 года назад +9

      @@KatinkaMaika I don't think it's that people objected to Rory not having life all figured out in the reboot. It's that she was just a worse person all around. She's having an affair with Logan, even though he's engaged and she's been in a relationship with Paul for two years--a guy she keeps "forgetting" to break up with. (So what exactly did she learn from the whole sleeping-with-her-married-ex-boyfriend episode?) Then she cheats on Paul again with some random dude in NY. She turns her nose up at Chilton's offer of a teaching position, even though she has no other job prospects. And when she does finally get an interview for a writing job, she shows up completely unprepared and then is mad that the job isn't just being handed to her. She accepts a writing assignment from another outlet and promptly blows that off, actually falling asleep while interviewing someone. She complains the whole time about being homeless and having no money, even though it's been well established that she's got family money and could easily move back home or into her grandmother's house while she gets herself together. And even all that might have been forgivable if she had still been in her 20s, but at this point she's 32 and lost for no reason. I wanted to root for her, but the Year in the Life reboot made it really hard to do that.

    Hey screenprism, how about making a video about Rory as a millennial. And i explain: Rory's mum made huge sacrifices to provide her with everything she needs, she gave up her own dreams of going to college and getting married so she could take care of Rory, she moved to a secure and ridiculously friendly town where everyone knew Rory and loved her, everyone around her adored and praised her, her grandparents provided her with college education and upper class background, all the boys loved her, she was an inspiring writer who wrote a moving piece about pavement and an excellent student. So why is Rory such a failure in her adult life? Why is she struggling in her personal and professional life? Is it her era? Is it Lorelai's fault for keeping her secluded from the world in the ideal Stars Hollow that now she excepts everything to just fall into her lap like it used too? Is she living in a world of overachievers that had big dreams and now are struggling to accept their current reality? From being the next Christiane Amanpour adult Rory is suddenly an unemployed, pregnant mess of a girl and her huge potential as a child makes it all more tragic and unforgivable and this mirrors the life of most millennials

      yea it is true that things don't go according to plan. it's sad when people expect a lot from you too.

    • @AnaAgC
      @AnaAgC 4 года назад +70

      Mmm... You are a bit hard on my generation. Rory is a big disappointment but I don't remember her asking Lorelai for any sacrifice. It was Lorelai's decision and most of the show is a reminder that she made that decision on her own. Lorelai also had all the opportunities that I can imagine and she decided to have a baby when she was a teenager and move away from her parents -I don't blame her, in her place I would have run from them as well-.
      I think Rory is a failure not because she was loved but because she wasn't loved by a mature person. It is no one's fault, it was the circumstances. Rory was an unsecure teenager and is an insecure woman. She grew up without a father figure, doubting if she truly belong, and watching a mother who was unable to have a mature relationship, the consequences are obvious. Maybe if Lorelai had waited until adulthood to become a mother, she would have been able to provide the emotional tools Rory's lacking. But life is messy and at the end most of the viewers did better in life that Rory.

    • @ivealwaysbeenswimming9030
      @ivealwaysbeenswimming9030 4 года назад +20

      AnaAgC I think it’s because besides what her books and documentaries told her, Rory in retrospect, lacked the isolation and self sufficiency to mature enough for handling real world problems. Yes, she can somewhat cook and make sure she doesn’t kill herself but Stars Hollow on its own is a very shielded town/community that was too lenient on teaching the ability to accept things. And its not supposed to be some complicated reflection of her era its the literal fact that the writer wanted to milk more from the wholesome, money making show

    • @lolavedette7566
      @lolavedette7566 4 года назад +24

      Rory was set up by Lorelai and her grandparents to make up for Lorelai's mistakes. As a result she didn't have time to figure out who she really was or feel connected to herself. It was always choosing between Lorelai, Richard and Emily. Not that she didn't have her own strengths but she rarely appreciated her own individuality. Something that should have been instilled in the first few years of your life and as a result of missing out on that safe space to go crazy and grow, she's doing it later on in life. It's not just a generational issue. They can't cuddle her and expect her not to act out and fall apart when the safety nets are all gone. Her best bet would be to do what Lorelai did and leave the situation and people keeping you stuck and go it alone, then come back as you are.

    One thing that I noticed is that she didn't get bangs until she gave up Yale, and once she went back to Yale she often had the bangs pulled back. I suppose that they picked an actress with a five-head for the same reason that typically put glasses on smart character as a visual way of saying, 'this character is intelligent.'

    I know some people say they are reading too much into it, but it is a phenomenon in the real world for people to make sometimes drastic hair changes like cutting or dyeing after a major life event (especially if it was negative) apparently a lot of women tend to want to cut their hair much shorter after a breakup.
    Heck, last semester during finals I learned all sorts of braids simply because trying new styles and doing something with my hands helped relieve stress.

    I hope that you would analyze rory’s character not just her hair but I think this one is great. How deeply flawed her character have become. From an inspiration to a girl all people would love to hate. If all that high grades she earned really matter in the real world and how her personality, love life and maybe whole life did not grow and eventually crumbled.
    How each love interest in the series greatly affect her and show her true colors and everything that we knew and loved about “our dear rory” aren’t really true.
    Please please do an analysis of the gilmore girls. It was really interesting to root for a character from the start but can’t help for what she became in the end like the viewers didn’t know this character anymore.

    I thought her brief change to curls and red were moreso her embracing the world of Emily vs. Lorelai lol.

    If you haven't, make a video about Lara Jean's hair in To All the Boys I've Loved Before. The costume designer said after Peter says he likes her hair down she always wears it down except when she's upset with him

    I loved this analysis! But could you please make one based on Lorelai's life and decisions? Or about the whole TV show!

    I'm sure the stylists didn't really think about it like this. 😅 The overthinking is over the top.

    "Hair is how we want to be seen by others." So when I'm letting my hair fall in front of my eyes I don't want to be seen at all! Accurate...

    I feel more sympathetic to Jess as an adult plus it's ironic he didn't graduate yet so intelligent. Also with the ringlets that's hard to stay like that the Jess curls are waves you can get with a bun or braids

    ok but... rory didn't like dean at the time she cut it. i thought it was more about how she wanted to be ballsy at college. a new her. new school. nothing to do with dean.

      did her character have naturally straight hair? she didn't seem like a girl who as a teen would straighten her hair. wasn't Rory considered low maintenance?

      Her hair was naturally straight. I think the curls came late Season 1 or Season 2 when all the Jess drama began.
