It really looks like they put some sort of plaster or mud on the walls so they could carve in their glyphs. Seeing so much of it flaking off indicates that might be what we are seeing. Would be telling if someone would get some samples of that and have it tested. I know some of the flaking is clearly from high heat but it does appear telling in the craftsmanship there may be some sort of surface compound that was easy to carve into and looking close there is a color shift between the glyphs and the smooth surface stone that shows through.

The place where someone would sit to be carried is enclosed, and it seems too small for any regularly-sized adult to fit. Thoughts anyone? I'm thinking about the grays that were purportedly found at Giza.

Crazy thing, it actually closely matches the dimensions/design of the Ark of the Covenant given in the old testament. A little smaller, but not much. Might have been a common design in early Dynastic days (same time as the Old Testament). When they say "Holy of Holies", it could really just mean "energy source".
