I find it strange that Our Lady of Guadalupe is Italian - we know she's Italian because her bodily fluids are olive oil like all Italians - I suppose it's not that strange since the majority of Italian emigrants of the 19th and 20th century moved to Central and South America, but it's weird to see one in New Mexico, rather than Mexico Classic. So - this has given me an idea for a dark comedy movie. Basically, we have a Catholic church that is losing members at an alarming rate. The recent spate of kid-diddling within the church has eroded faith in the church leadership and in Catholicism in general - both when it comes to parishioners and to the clergy themselves (none of whom diddle kids but are an eclectic bunch both nuns and priests). So the head priest fella, well to save his church he gets an idea - he's going to hoax a weeping statue to drum up publicity and elicit pilgrims and hopefully revive his church - SHENANIGANS AND HI-JINX ENSUE - and eventually the weeping statue gets more attention than the clergy bargained for and they're cracking under the guilt and pressure, maybe someone wants to confess and come clean - the head priest fella bickers with this faction and eventually a chemist is called in and a bunch of skeptics (maybe played by the Boo Review who knows? Just throwing that out there.) come and investigate and determine that it's a hoax... ...however, even though the rest of the world knows it's a hoax the 'faithful' live in a world of their own and the head priests' bosses are so impressed with how well his flock is doing that they begrudgingly accept this bullshit and allow him to keep his job (more 'miraculous' cases of weeping statues suddenly start popping up all over the place) and thanks to the blind nature of the faithful - who refuse to listen to the rest of the world - they come to the church in droves and the faith of his flock is restored, he now lives with the guilty success of his ill-begotten venture. The End.
What’s the date on that news item? Because the feast of OLO Guadalupe was the 12th, I think. It’s an important holy day for Mexican people in particular. My guess: a devotee poured chrism over Mary and some of it just collected in the right places. ( 9:00 Oh, seriously, dude, someone took chrism from the church and altered the statue. Come on.
