  • Ian reviews the Lost Round Nose Fish Redux Surfboard.
For the RNF-Redux, Matt took the best from both these models. He kept the pulled-in nose of the original and took the glide and versatility of the more cruizy RNF-Quint. The result of this alchemy was a ripable hybrid that paddles like a groveller and glides over the flatter faced waves and smaller junky swells. This new template also has the ability to execute precise high speed surfing in good quality waves.

What's the max wave size this board can handle? Also, what size for a 5' 10" 158 lb male?

Great review ! Keep it up !
Can you please help me out... I am moving to California in a few months and i am currently looking for what will suit me best there. I am an intermediate surfer, just started getting my first barrels in my recent trip to Indonesia, 1,85m, 85kg and I am used to surf mostly fish type surfboards in head size waves. I am interested to max out my surfing possibilities while in Cali, (I will be living in Irvine so there are plenty of waves in the area) and I want to be able to surf in almost any condition (from the smallest wave to the biggest that I can). I am also willing to get 2 boards since i assume that you cant have one for all the conditions.
At first I was thinking about getting the Puddle Fish for small days and was looking for another one for bigger once but now the RNF sounds really good too. How would you compare the RNF with the Puddle Fish, and if I get one of those two, what would you suggest to be another good option for bigger waves? (I dont limit my options to Lost surfboards)
    Thank you very much !!

Great review! Can a beginner coming from a minimal learn to trim on one of those? (RNF Redux) or is it safer to get the older version, RNF 5? Which one is more stable? I'm a beginner, can pop up and turn a bit w/ mini-mals. Want to progress with a new board. I'm 5'8.5" tall, 138lbs./ 63kg, surfing calf-high to shoulder high waves. What size and volume should I be riding RNF 5 or RNF redux? Thanks and advance happy 2017!

Hi Working Title - The RNF is a great board to get the most out of smaller/weaker waves and in this latest Redux configuration its copes with bigger punchier waves better than the original RNF. I wouldn’t recommend this board as a next step on from a mini mal or a bigger board, though. It needs to be surfed rail to rail to get the most out of it and isn’t the most stable or forgiving board out there, there are better choices for sure. Have a look at the Firewire Baked Potato or the CI Average Joe if you’re looking to go down to something really short to get your surfing kick started.
