Congratulations on reaching the ready to sell point! I like the “speaking with perspective customer” practice. That alone makes the price point even more reasonable.
Skunkie Is Right!! I have been listening to an EL34/7025 amp, based on her 6SQ7 circuit, for a month now and it sounds wonderful!! I am using a pair of NOS Electro Harmonix EL34EH’s with a new production EH 7025 driver and the Edcor 5K iron. They all mate well with my vintage mid-70’s AVID 3-way sealed speakers. Plenty of clean power for my personal listening levels. The 3D imaging is excellent. I listen to vinyl thru an EAR834 clone and also digital via a home brew R2R ladder DAC. Congratulations Stephe on your accomplishments and I cannot thank you enough for re-igniting the tube bug in me. I wish you all the best!!
I am excited to see this Skunkie amp go on the market. Where else could someone buy a tube amp where all the measurements, design concepts, component comparisons, and subjective listening is so well published. Not only can someone get a nice amp but also learn a lot about gear.
Great ..........wishing you all succes and pleasure realising your project . Indeed a good 5751 is a win win..........even in a vintage MC Intosh it sounds very good. You have a winning team with this amp...........few tubes , simple circuit ( lesser components ; less degradation and less loss of the musicalsugnal ) and resulting in great sound , the price of the Edcores makes it a steal to build and sell.. PS : It could be interesting to measure the resistance of the windings of the OPT as well as the symmetry of both PP windings and compare these on both OPT's . Kind regards
Great channel. Was hoping you might consider a 2a3 amplifier with volume control some time in the future. I know you mentioned you want to build amps with easy to get components. But, I have always heard that 2a3 single ended is the way to go for voice. Thanks.
@@SkunkieDesignsElectronics Hope that this 2A3 amp is your next YT project and comes out right after the new BOM and updates for this amp over the 6SQ7 version.
Congratulations Stephe. I like the 5751 in place of the 12AX7. I think it may tamp down the drive just a scosh. And of course it can drive a EL34 easily. I didnt know JJ made a 5751. I check it out. Congratulations again on the entire enterprise and i cant wait to see it take off. Thanks for sharing.
Very good Steph I hope that your project and enterprise is very successful! I may very well sometime be interested myself, although not at the moment. Maybe you would consider posting physical measurements with and without tubes, weight, sensitivity recommendations related to speakers and types, any disclaimers you feel appropriate, etc. It seems to me this would only benefit potential customers and yourself in the clarification of that information. Thank you for considering and good luck with you and your early adopters!
@Skunkie Nice to hear you are ready for production, but I am definitely going the DIY route. Glad to hear the Edcors won out with that pair of amps! Well, I was hoping that would be the case since I already have them and don't intend to buy another set of output transformers. As it is I still have to buy the power transformer. I know I have some EH, JJ, and Svetlana EL34's kicking around. Not sure if I have 5751 tubes for the input tube, but I certainly have quite a few 12AX7's laying around. Curious if you tried a 7025 input tube. I have a couple of those kicking around too. Can't wait for the BOM!
@@SkunkieDesignsElectronics is this a single ended 2 channel and how many watts per channel...also if 2 channel , how come only 2 el34 and not 4? I was intrested...but no shipping outside US😔 good work! & I love your passion...so I know it's great!
And honestly, if someone expects a hand made in USA amp, that are individually burned in and tested, both on an analyzer and listened to before they are shipped, using high quality hand picked parts, for the same price as a poorly engineered mass produced China amp off Amazon, they aren't my target market.
Why can I not have cool neighbors like you. You have so much knowledge and are so talented at tube amps. Thank you for all your videos. Greetings from Tulsa, Oklahoma amd best wishes on your company. L9ve the Skunkie Designs name.
Very interesting steph those edcores have a good rep. It lookes awesome. I am very tempted to strip my tubelab sse and use the parts for one of these. This is so exciting, will we get to see the finished underside?
If you dont mind me asking Steph, u mentioned 600v solid wire, where can we get this? I struggle to find it at normal prices. Also what model edcores are they, assuming 5k or 3.5k.
I have a set of Cornwalls, vintage 1984, original drivers and crossovers. They are extremely efficient, but a little picky about what sounds good driving them. Have you powered any Klipsch with the EL34 amp?
Not yet, I have a pair of Chorus II speakers but honestly my room is too small for them to sound good. You'd probably want to do something like triode strap the EL34's and run no feedback with those speakers?
My listening room is only 20' x 25 ' which is probably why the amps driving those Cornwalls is critical. Hard to believe, but I use an old set of ADCOM pre and power amps (250 W per channel) and those sound very good, but they are getting tired and show signs of needing recap (left channel getting weak). I'm an engineer, but not electrical engineer so I only understand the basics of electrical voodoo. A friend (electrical technician) has measured the wattage of normal and MAX LOUD listening levels and those go between 0.5W to 5W max (at 5W I need to straighten all the pictures on the walls afterwards). Experimenting with the location of the Chorus II, you might find them really good, but they are not like the old-school Klipsch stuff. Anyway, shopping for a new power source for those old speakers and it sounds like you care, which is increasingly rare now days.
@@herbieschwartz9246 They might be the last of the old-school Klipsch stuff. I have a pair - always wanted KHorns but see no good reason to buy anything else.

Probably the worst possible match for this amp. "The Quad ESL-57 is no easy task for an amplifier. Firstly, it is woefully inefficient: the speaker has a sensitivity of 83 dB at 2.83 volts"
@@SkunkieDesignsElectronicsNew to your channel and really enjoy your videos. The TS KT-120 you went through has really surprised me. What junk! There is not a single 12AX7 I really like, and I tried many brands. 5751s are the tubes to go for, especially the military grade General Electrics.

Yeah, it's a GREAT sounding tube!!
12AT7 maybe? I like vintage Tele, fwiw.
Dave Hartwick take a look at the plate characteristic curves. A 12AT7 is very linear. Try 12AY7 instead. See the 12AT7 tube data sheet.

Easy, JJ EL34L. These new Horizon tubes from Psvane are also very good.
Just a suggestion if you were listening to your amplifiers with two different speakers. Triangle bro 3's, for example. Now $350

Not sure yet. I need to get the chassis work outsourced to be able to do that, too much hand labor to just put that much work into a kit.

Enough power for my KLIPSCH FORTE' ONE'S? 😁 I'M thinking probably so, at 98 db efficiency.

@@SkunkieDesignsElectronics Steve Decart of DECWARE is only a couple of hours from me.

was curious what the output power is on this amp... looks nice
7W, best used under 4W to allow some headroom for transients.
You use all JJ tubes. So I assume they are reliable and sound nice?
Their signal and their EL34L output tubes are reliable and sound great. If you notice I am using a Sovtek 5AR4, the JJ rectifier tubes are horrible!

How does this sound compared to a 300b ? Don’t make a 300b integrated amplifier??
More dynamic is how I would describe it. The 300B has a unique sound, maybe more musical? Hard to describe, they both sound very good.
I wonder how your amps would do on my Quad 57s or Sanders model 10?

Yamaha Kart racing engine from the early 1980's.

Nah, 100cc open class, ran on methanol power range was between 10,000-15000RPM. Won lots of races with it.
Can it have a buffered Sub output ?
Sorry, no. If you need that I would use a pre-amp that has that function.
Is it auto biased?
Cathode bias which some folks also call "auto bias"
At 600v can we even try a KT150?
The output transformers limit the use to 60ma current tubes. Any of the 25W 8 pin tubes can be used.
