The reason I think they used Newman is because he actually owns Modified teams in real life and is one of the only, if not the only driver in the national series that cares at all about a series as low on the totem pole as the Modifieds, so he's your "in" to the Modifieds.
He also was a recent rookie of the year winner in Winston Cup, also winning a not too shabby 8 wins in 2003 alone ( yeah only winning 8 races a season while Kenseth won 1 race).
the thing about share drafting in 04 and 05 for me is that when they were allies, they would block me more than if they were neutral. The obvious reasoning behind that is that they think, "oh there's my ally, i'll just hop in front of him so we can work together." I have never had an instance where they just moved out of the way for me to go on by.
This game is STILL the best Nascar game ever made for consoles. It's a shame that developers haven't been able to at least MATCH this game, in spite of modern day technology. Eutechnyx and DMR are pure trash compared to this game. This was 12 years ago!

I've found that there are a few tracks where the CPU is pretty frustrating because their AI was programmed in a weird way. At Richmond, for example, it's really tough to race them on the outside exiting turn 4, because they love to jump to the outside as soon as they can whether you're there or not.
After my friend brought over his PS2 with thunder 2003, I never touched my PS1 version again.... I mean 18 to 43 cars it was a no brainier. Plus racing 42 other cars while the sun sat in Daytona was mesmerizing

The biggest complaints primarily has to do with race weekends: Why is there no barometer to see in qualifying? In the prior Thunder games to this, you know whom was on the pole and the time/speed they qualified at. And secondly, why can't you see the race stats during the race in progress? I want to know Jeff Gordon started 29th at Pocono and is up to 5th in 7 laps! You don't get to see that in Thunder 2005. Also was not a fan of how loose the cars drove. My preferred go-to is Thunder 2003.
If anyone has a solution to the game freezing at the end of your second or third season, let me know please. I'm playing on a wii, but the problem happened even back when I was a kid. Breaks my heart :(

But im thinking about buying this again because I currently got NASCAR 06 and it has too many glitches with fight to the top mode. I can't drive for any team that I want. With some teams that you sign with the game freezes when you start a race. Anyway I'm looking forward to playing this again.

Close, but I like Nascar 06 the best. 41 real cup drivers is hard to top, including Jeremy Mayfield, Ken Schrader, and Carl Edwards.

The CPU is the part inside your console that tells it what to do.
