Also on shiny new stuff I always use one side of a plastic bag between the tool and bezel, you never scratch them. I have been doing this as a hobby for 20 years and thought I would pass on some tips I have picked up over the years.

I upgraded to that press recently from the regular old plunger style presses. It does need a little bit more ass, I may remake the frame out of steel while keeping the lead screw mechanism.
Couple of tips from pro watchmaker:
The first die you were using to try to press on the bezel was too wide and it was simply flaring out instead of pushing down.
If the bezel doesn't interfere with the crystal I would have done the bezel first cuz you wouldn't have to worry about clearing the crystal with the die.
I didn't notice if there was something about the case where you have to put the dial in first, but I always do case assembly like that with the movement out if I can. Just makes it a lot less likely you'll damage your dial hands and movement if something goes wrong.
Finally I saw you had the whole case sitting on its case back on the aluminum die on the bottom of the press. This is contraindicated to say the least as it can collapse the case back. I always use a dye that contacts the case solidly on its own flanks not on the case back itself.
Hope this helps, keep up the great videos I really enjoy your channel!

33:30 much love me dude, so goes amateur watch building. I do the same and try to learn from each flub!
Also, I too had trouble fitting a Namoki bracelet, the Presidential (5 link!), to an OE Seiko SRPD case, couldn’t use the supplied far spring bars. Now that I’ve had it on for a while, it was easier to remove and reinstall, but has worn down my case.

Sadly that press has way too much frame flex at the base mounts to maintain a straight push, you can see it flex when he uses it. Regardless what an amazing classy looking watch, immaculate-!

    • @johnafsoc8929

    • @dropin324

You can see the flex really well at 24:05 when pressure is released after the bezel is successfully installed.

A hack for getting in the pins when they are misaligned like this is to use one of those flossers that has a short section of floss between forked plastic. Use the floss section to push the rod in the way you want it to go. Once it goes, in, you'll have to cut the floss to get it out as it usually binds. I did it like you for an hour until I used that and it took 5 seconds.

WOW, I wish I had the money to make watches like this. Classy and you have it. I am jealous every time I watch you build one. Makes me wish I was not old and retired but young like you again. Absolutely beautiful. By the way, the 5105 Vietnam watch reminded me of my time there in 1970-72. PS: New builders should see that that is a double lock stem winder like Rolex makes. Again, you are amazing and the choices of builds are different and great. Do a GS snowflake dial sometime. I may not be able to afford to build them, but I can see them come together on here. Nice mate.

Always use a sheet of plastic to protect parts when screwing down backs etc. it is a must from what I have seen. Also, I noticed from watching Rolex bracelets being sized; they always size them with the clasp adjusted in as long as it can be. This way you have more length to adjust out later without looking for extra links. Makes sense to me. Use the tweezers pin removers to put pins in case and you wont scratch them taking pins in and out. Just a FYI.

Great build video, but I’m not sure Grand seiko should be the Tag.
What part of this watch speaks to Grand seiko?
    The movement?
    The dial?
It’s like a Pontiac Fierro dressed up as a Lamborghini

Use a case back removal ball. Best way to remove the screwed on caseback.

I think the best way is to use a caseback removal tool, they are after all made to do just that. But yeah a rubber ball will work at times if it isn't screwed on too tight.
