I can't thank you enough!!! This is perfectly timed for me as I am finishing up LR training and have been using LR. Learning Photoshop is on my to do list to expand my capabilities. Your videos are so straight forward. I love your teaching style!
I like your detailed teaching style for us rookies. Good job. I'm paying monthly for Photoshop, I should probably learn to fully use it. Slowly but surely. Thanks for taking the time to put this video together, to share. Well done.
I've always had a mental block when it comes to photoshop, but since I've become a real estate photographer this skill has become important and I've been struggling to truly "get" this concept for almost two years. I could follow specific instructions but really didn't know what I was doing. But now I understand. This is very clear instruction. THANKS!!
This was so well taught to my level of PS understanding..that is old graying cells in my brain I cannot even begin to tell what you did.....you are a great teacher, is all I will say
Hi Anthony. Great to see you doing what comes naturally. I’m really struggling with Photoshop. I’ve made the decision to have a break from Lightroom to learn Photoshop. Darn difficult to say the least but I have to learn. Thank you for everything you teach, your attitude and skills are exceptionally good. Stay safe Anthony. Thank you. Neville.
As a long time fan of your videos (since lightroom) I like to say thank you so much for this as I was starting learn photoshop. It was very clearly explain the very basics of photoshops.
Great explanation of how layers support each other. I’ve been teaching photoshop for 5 years but just getting started on RUclips. Any tips for someone trying to grow?
Hi Anthony, I use Lightroom and am trying to learn Photoshop. In this Layers video, I am either confused or caught something. At around 2:32 you mention adding a mask to Layer 0 yet on your screen it shows it added to Layer 1. Am I missing something? Also, I have a request if a Photoshop tutorial is geared for new users. Is it possible to stick to the tools on the screen without mentioning the keyboard shortcuts? It forces you to try to remember something not on the screen. It could be me and that's OK but just a suggestion...Thanks, your videos are very helpful...
Once again an excellently demonstrated technique, which goes a long way to demystify Layers. The penny has finally dropped with 'White reveals/Black conceals' aide. Keep up the good work. Cheers:)
So freakin helpful man! I've been doing astrophotography for a bit. And I've figured out how to do curves and levels enough to make a good picture. But I always get lost when they go into masks. And it's a huge part of getting the background right. So this helpful video got me to at least understand what they are
Just watched your 2017 video last night. It would be awesome if you could do a little backing up and explain how the import system works also how to save and export it definitely isn't as simple as LR.
one more video that I am doing exactly what you say and yet it doesn't work....I brought in 2 photos, I clicked on control v and another picture came up that i didn't ask for....
I use Lightroom for over 10 years,i am an expert on everything about it,from preferences to develop, from print to library and every little corner of that programm. If you leave me with only PS.....oh god...what a nightmare for me,i don’t even know how to export the photo,i don’t know why it changes sizes and names to my files,i don’t know nothing nothing at all. I whish i had start with it at first but now from LR to PS it looks like a mountain to me,and believe me i love mountains.I try so many times to love it,to learn masks or curves or the other thing how they say it...content fill... something. Nope,my mind don’t want it,it just understands everything and rejects it next minute.Sooo many icons, sooo small icons,so ooold icons, looks like my only hope, and that is what every time i suggest to Adobe,is make LR more independent and powerfull. Anthony another great video, even though i lost you on the white black grey mask! Greetings from Greece to all
I am sure this makes sense to everyone else here, but that seems so very confusing. Dodge and burn? everyone else uses black and white brush tool. So you dodge and burn on the same mask and end up with the same result??? This makes no sense. I feel like you might have chosen a better example.

Anthony, this was perfect and allowed me to quickly combine two images. Masterful at providing instruction.
With visual software like Photoshop it is important to use the best examples for teaching. You have nailed it!

Thx for great tutorial, I had trouble understanding the same, and I only realized after your tutorial.
wonderful explanation sir. Thank you. All the best.

this was AMAZING!!! I don't know how many videos I watched attempting to do this. Great job and Thank you!
Great job explaining layers and layer masks.
Thanks, Anthony! I've seen many explanations of how layer masks work, but never realised that shades of grey are also available for partial masking.
Thank you for this video. Masking makes so much more sense now.
As a long time fan of your videos (since lightroom) I like to say thank you so much for this as I was starting learn photoshop. It was very clearly explain the very basics of photoshops.
An excellent video. Thank you. Like so many, I have struggled understanding layers. This clicked for me.
Thank you so much, you help me out all the time.
Excellent explanation of layers and layer masks! It makes it very clear. Before, I always got everything backwards or just got lost.
Great explanation. Thank you
I have used layers for quite some time, but I still learned something here; the shortcut keys on the layer masks; thanks!
Great explanation of how layers support each other. I’ve been teaching photoshop for 5 years but just getting started on RUclips. Any tips for someone trying to grow?
Learning with Anthony is so easy....Please continue with some more similar basic tutorials for photographers....Thanks & Regards.
Another great how to. Wish I had this when I was trying to unravel layers. Thank you.
Great tutorial, thank you so much for your videos!
what file types allow layering? I have jpg in use ...its a window...I can't seem to be able to make the panes of the window transparent
Excellent tutorial!
thanks ( from Italy ) for your support
I wish this was explained the many times I tried dabbling with photoshop, thank you.
Is there a shortcut key to access the mask with out hold alt and clicking with the mouse?
thank you mr. photographer
super job! thank you.

Yeah, pretty sure you caught something. He meant Layer 1.
Can you change the opacity of the black layer mask?
Once again an excellently demonstrated technique, which goes a long way to demystify Layers. The penny has finally dropped with 'White reveals/Black conceals' aide. Keep up the good work. Cheers:)
Great instruction🙏👍
Great intro. I only use LR and want to use PS soon. What if you apply the same or a mask to layer 0?
Another great tutorial. Thank you
Is there a series...a current set of tutorials that follow this one?
Thanks for starting from the beginning. PS seems to have a higher learning curve than LR.
Thanks
Is this a revision of your video from three years ago on Masks and Layers? This does one supersede the others? Thanks!

I went to your other video (the old one with three Joes). Why did you reveal the Joe on the right twice? Could you have done it only once?
Very informative...
Thank you Anthony
How did he get the two photos onto the tabs at the top ? I wish he explained important things like that instead of chatting.
nice thanks
That was so helpful, thank you!!
THANK YOU!!!!!!

You are not alone. I feel exactly the same way!

I wish your thumbnails were better
because of layers i don't want to learn photoshop it's so hard for me to understand i am so stupid
totally pointless
Thanks
