Mother Nature is so great. The more I watch & learn, the more I realize there is MORE to watch & learn. I never tire of learning from & about animals. Just incredible.
These things are absolutely vicious! Masters at separation... however they are terrible at killing their prey. Yes they can catch it, but in raw footage they often just rip their catch apart while it’s alive. The larger cats usually suffocate their kill and then feat. These will *LITERALLY* pull the intestines out while the animal is still kicking.
Most African predators will do that. I've seen lions eating an elephant and giraffe alive. Due to the high number of larger predators that will steal their kills, they have to eat it as fast as they can, which sometimes means eating it alive
Haha well better late than never at all, man. African wild dogs are amazing creatures. You should look into them more when you have the chance. They are masterful in their teamwork tactics. During hunts, they're essentially one single entity.
Man, I think African wild dogs have to be my favourite African predators after hyenas, because they are truly incredible, so loyal, such successful hunters and yet very misunderstood.
Melonpie 33 - I've asked this before myself & was told 2 things that can contribute..... #1 (24) different time zones can effect it (I personally think 8am in San Diego, 11am in Atlanta or 4pm in London England wouldn't matter) 2nd the strength of the signal, how long it takes to enter you comment, when you started writing to finishing & hitting the blue arrow. Lions don't actually hate hate wild dogs they sort of like them around since they know wild dogs are the most successful hunters which in turn guarantees them a free meal during the day time when lions cannot hunt due to the raging heat, same reasons why hyenas keep following them around. There is always a free meal when wild dogs are around.
I really like how the males actully care for their mates and help raise the pups instead of raping the female and then abandoning her like some species of animal
I love the series, but was kind of sad that they didn't kind of do the different species for each episode thing. There are no birds, fish or reptile in the series
I'm surprised leopards have the ability to hold a prey as much as their size, and goe up a tree like this. I mean, they must hold onto a gree using their full paws, not just their claws.
This video would not exist without them. Tracking collars allow scientists, wildlife filmakers/photographers, environmental scientists, ect to know where that animal is at any given time. Putting it on important members of the pack ensures that the whole pack will always be able to be located. For videos like this that's invaluable
I guess it is necessary, those collars essentially gives researchers and scientists to monitor these dogs and to study everything about them, because should one day these dogs status change from endangered to critically endangered, conservation can be held much better with all the data that have been gathered. This is just my opinion. ✌️
Plus the tranquilizer shots don’t hurt them apart from a tiny sting, they’re just tiny darts so they don’t actually do damage and they’re closely monitored to make sure they’re only under for a safe amount of timr
You think video cameras, trucks, tv screens, youtube, and blu ray are "natural"? This is done to monitor an animal population (to see if they're healthy or in danger and to track if they're recovering their population) and so people like you and me, who don't live anywhere near these majestic animals can see them. It would be so incredibly difficult to track these animals otherwise and know where they are to even attempt to film them. Every animal with a collar has indeed been tranquilized. It'd be stressful and dangerous for them otherwise. Tranquilizers also don't hurt the animals, it's like getting an immunization shot in terms of pain, then they're collared as quick as possible with a certified vet on the scene just in case anything happens. This is as safe as possible and allows us to see so much of their world. Leaving comments like these on something that took this much effort to find, film, and edit is really ungrateful. If it's so unnatural to you then why bother watching?
I've never seen a pack of wild dogs kill a full-grown adult male leopard so stop saying it. They're capable of killing a full-grown lion but are they willing to risk more than half the pack? a male leopard would probably kill at least three or four of them but I don't think they're going to risk that so stop saying it
I think that by "take down" they mean take down the threat those big predators represent. They can chase them off, not litterally kill them because that would be dangerously pointless unless under dire situations.
cory ddp a male leopard would not kill three or four of them. It is clear enough from videos with hyenas and one lion that when attacking as a pack they generally don’t lose any pack members, you might lose one dog
You have to also remember how a lot of pack canines attack. They don't attack like felines who crouch and stalk prey and catch by suprise, using force to take down the animal. They circle around the animal, making sure it has no escape. As the animal is facing one of the canines, the rear facing ones lunge in and bite onto the animal then jump back into position, out of reach, as the animal is turning around. Once it's now facing it's new opponent, the new rear facing will lunge forwards. This creates a vicious cycle. Wearing down the creature until it is too tired to attack and will then go for a kill. This strategy works well for canines and for the most part eliminates major causalitys.
They care for the sick and elderly, and allow the young to eat first. Extremely pack-oriented and protecting of each other. Also, the documentary on Solo the lone wild dog, was absolutely fascinating. Love this species so much!
You have to love how they don’t turn their backs on their pride members, no matter what illness or elderly state they are in!
I love their strict division of labor. There's someone to baby sit, there's someone to hunt, there's someone to train the pups... So cool.
