    the exotic nutrition cage is the cage that i am getting for my chin marvin! he’s a grumpy old school chinchilla and i took him home over the summer and we both fell in love. since going back to school he has bitten several people and just been super cranky, so i am taking him home to get him forever. unfortunately, being a school pet he doesn’t really get proper care and is currently in a dog crate with lots of plastic accessories. so we are getting him the exotic nutrition cage because i’ve heard so many good things, this video adding to that!! thanks!!

    Just for reference for those looking for a cage: My chinchilla cage is made by Pawhut and it has the Ferret Nation bar spacing. We got our chinchilla when she was about 3 months old and we have never had any issues with our chinchilla trying to escape, getting out or getting stuck. Not saying it can't happen if they're younger or a smaller male. Just saying this is my experience. Also, if you think you might want the one with the smaller bars, just in case, keep in mind you might not feel the need for larger accessories now but one day you may want a bigger/heavier wheel made for chinchillas. I HIGHLY recommend these as the smaller ones just aren't big enough or durable enough for a full grown chinchilla. In this case you'll need a cage with more durable bars like Ferret Nation.

    Soo they will chew plastic shelving but they won't chew them if covered in fleece FABRIC? I just bought two chins (6 and 7 mths old) and they've definitely sampled my clothes lol.

    • @ChinVillain
      @ChinVillain  2 года назад

      No pill fleece is a safe fabric as it does not have all of the strings that most fabrics have. However if you notice your chinchilla chewing holes in your fleece, you will have to use a different bedding option, but typically they will not chew fleece.

      Cage size is very controversial. I would say the minimum size would be 2 ft x 2 ft x 2 ft. But I always suggest going larger.
      I have a few resources for you that might help with some of your other questions:

      Care Sheet:
      bit.ly/38nBLVo
      Also since I won't be much support for product stuff being in the US and all, I would also suggest joining a few Facebook groups for support! I would recommend the group called "Ask a Breeder - Chinchillas" and the other group called "Chinchilla Owners Group". They hopefully will have some answers on where to get the best stuff in your area!

    • @ChinVillain
      @ChinVillain  3 года назад +2

      @@jarvine3216 Bars on the bottom of the cage is also a controversial thing. However it is technically safe as long as the bar spacing is small enough. However, I personal favor covering these bars with no pill fleece. There are a lot of people on the internet that make fleece liners for various different cages, but you can also just get fleece from the craft store and cut it to size and clip it to the bottom with metal clips.
      Here is an example of a fleece liner made for a cage with bottom bars: www.etsy.com/listing/472375141/prevue-hendryx-earth-tone-dusted-rose
      Chinchillas can sometimes be trained to pee in a litter box filled with aspen or pine shavings however, they will poop everywhere! If you use fleece, I would just wash the liners every 3 days and sweep the poop out with a broom everyday.
