I came to the same conclusion as you did, it boosts the creativity because you can (try to) adjust a setting on the fly and if it doesn't work you just click the knob and reset it. While with mouse/keyboard we all to tent to get bored to try adjusting a setting...
Absolutely! Something about the tactile way of editing that just feels that bit more creative and 'direct' almost. The only frustrating thing is the 'barrier to entry' :D My loupedeck is now always under my desk and I am usually too lazy to get it out, dust it and plug it in, but then again I am rarely editing photos these days!
I've always wanted one, but I never saw a need for it. It just feels like a badass to own and edit on one haha. Maybe once I make a good amount of money I'll invest in one. Amazing review dude.
Yea, we wanted one for so long because it just looked sooo sick. Thanks a lot man, really appreciate it as always ❤️ It was a tough one to decide whether or not to recommend, because it is great, it has helped creativity, it has made editing faster, which is all amazing, but it's not essential! I'm actually super keen to try the Loupedeck CT for video - that looks next level!
Just purchased one yesterday from WEX in UK and unbelievably even though I chose standard Free 2 - 3 day delivery, it arrived this morning. £189 all in inc postage on their Black Friday sale. Looking forward to getting stuck into it after xmas decorations are up! GReat review and for those interested there's another great review of LD+ by Phototstoppers on YT thats well worth viewing as he shows actual editing of some photos on that video. Cheers and thanks for this.
Really good point about ignoring the numbers. I was listening to your video while editing on mine and I agree - you can ignore how high you're pushing the shadows or how low you're pulling the highlights. If it looks good on screen that's what you want. Before using LD I sometimes used to cover the slider with my hand and waggle the control so I forgot where the zero point was and then just set what looked good.
That's a great alternative actually! I completely agree that not seeing the sliders, especially when pulling back highlights or bringing back shadows especially ended up being an unexpected game changer for me. Thanks for your comment and hope you're enjoying the editing!
No way! You need to try it out honestly - it has been better than I originally anticipated and now that I have a bigger desk, I am finding that I am using it more and more.
@@TRIOStories I am not a serious photo editor but I when I learned about it I thought it would help me. My desk has always been cluttered which is why I never got around to it but my editing skills have grown so it's time. Thanks again for the review/reply. Cool channel! :)
@@mario373a Thank you so much! So glad you're enjoying our content and we hope that you get inspired to create with the Loupedeck, even if it's just for fun! Photo editing can be taken too seriously and that sucks the fun out of it , so why not just have a play with it here and there :)
Thank you for sharing the experience! I was wandering if LD allows to use multiple knobs simultaneously and only in this video it is shown clearly. :) Ordering one right now.
I’ve had a Loupedeck since it’s inception. It makes editing with LR far more creative, accurate, fast - and pleasurable. It’s the proverbial game-changer. I could never go back to mouse and sliders - UGH!
Nice, yea we definitely agree. It’s been like a 30% speed increase for me I would say but I don’t use it religiously for every project so I’m definitely not getting the most out of it. But creatively, 100% a game changer. Have you tried the Loupedeck CT?
No CT for me - too pricey, and LD+ does all I need. I only use with LR, occasionally with PS. For me it’s not about speed (I do street photography for art’s sake, and am in no rush). It’s about the sheer pleasure of editing with tactile buttons and knobs. My muscle memory knows where they are by now, I don’t have to look. The customization is incredible!
Hey, I'm just coming back to this thing after a couple of years collecting dust. I updated the Loupedeck software, made sure my PS app was the only one installed (I had PS Beta installed previously) and that I had all the latest Adobe updates installed. For some reason, the software will not apply a default set of functions, even just matching the labels printed on the unit itself. I have begun assigning functions manually, but only the ones that are activated by pressing the nob actually do anything. For example, the shadows and highlights knobs will add a levels adjustment layer, turning either of the knobs left or right has any effect whatsoever. I put it aside thinking that by the time I got back to it, the software would have been sorted. Is there some "duh" solution that I'm missing? Did they have a problem with shipping out defective units that I'm not aware of? Or could you point me in the direction of someone who might be able to help me with this problem?
Can you merge 3 image in to hdr one I use a thr shuttle pro which every button is customised also have a button to load a mask brush tool and pressed again loads another mask brush layer.
hoping to find something that allows me to do rough cuts without using my mouse or trackpad. basically being able to throw all my clips into a timeline and cut down selects in the cut tab / edit tab. then when i want to get into proper edit i switch to my edit tab keyboard shortcuts and trackpad workflow
Hey! So pleased you enjoyed our vid. Unfortunately we have not tried the MX Master 3 at all, although it looks really cool so we would love to! We've never really tried any sort of specialist mouse for photo editing, but I guess copying/pasting settings, undo and other common shortcuts on the mouse would really help.
Hi, cool review. How does the Loupedeck deal with the alternate viewmodes that are enabled by pressing alt, if you're using keyboard and mouse? I use those all the time, when setting the white point and the amount of sharpening. On mouse + keyboard they only activate once you hold down the slider. Does that mean they flicker on and off, when you use the corresponding dial on the loupedeck?
Hey Michael! Thank you for the kind words. That's a really good question. The Loupedeck is fully programmable, but to be honest I am not sure whether you could programme this sort of 'function' to it to work reliably. Not sure on this one!
I have the original version that does not have a dedicated alt key. The newer versions have this. It’s something motivating me to replace my older version. So a good catch to be asking about it.
Loupedeck + vs Live, which would you recommend? They seem to be around the same price. What about the Tourbox? Those are the three I'm considering gifting to my wife, but I'm not an editor myself so I have no idea what advantages one has over another.
Hey! thanks for the question - well can you tell us what sort of editing your wife does? Maybe we can help somewhat? :) Is she a photo or video editor?
@@TRIOStories She mainly does photography; weddings, quinceañeras, baptisms, graduations, etc. It started as a hobby and she eventually got the courage to charge for her work. She has done a bit of video but wants to start doing more of it. Last year she quit her job in the public sector to do full-time dog training, so photography is in the back burner, but she wants to continue doing video of dog events, like dog sports and bite work training, in order to incorporate it to her business social media profiles. She does all her editing in an HP laptop, Core i7 10th gen processor, so you can imagine how slow it is. I'm currently working on building her an editing workstation station and I should have all the components by the end of next month. It'll be a huge improvement over what she has right now, but I also want to surprise her with something like the Loupedeck in order to help with her workflow (I hear this a lot in these videos). I've been watching a lot of videos so I'm basing my choice on whatever appears to give me more bang for my buck. Since I don't do this type of work myself, I'm not really sure what sort of features I need to be looking for, which are overkill, unnecessary, etc. Thanks for all your help!
I love my Loupedeck when it works but for some reason mine is unbelievably buggy to the point that every 15-30 mins it glitches and locks onto a key or just flat disconnects.
Oh no! So sorry to hear that. We haven't really had those issues with ours, but I think a lot of it depends on what system you're running. Are you on Mac or Windows?
May I know the dial is starts from 0 or anything your presets from? Let say my presets setting start from Brightness +0.7 After I pressing the dial, It starts from 0 or 0.7?
So your saying that the speed increase alone wasn’t worth you paying less than $5/month? That’s what your cost would have been if you paid full price over the two years you’ve owned it.
Yes, exactly! I don't actually keep the Loupedeck+ on my desk at all times and I only use it for editing bigger/specific shoots. I am fairly quick at editing in Lightroom using keyboard shortcuts + mouse, so the speed increase alone just wouldn't be enough to convince me to buy. I think people have quite a wide range of experiences with the Loupedeck though, which is why we made this video with my own thoughts on it 😊
