I'm building up my toolbox of smithing tools, and a rolling mill was on my mind. I'm a sculptor of wood, bone, antler and stone, and just started an interest in jewelry making. I like all your vids. You share lots of good knowledge; much appreciated!

I really appreciate how you take the time to explain things. I worked in my own small jewelry store, that I inherited from my father, mostly doing repairs, some custom designs, and designing my own things to sell. I never had or used a rolling mill and wouldn't buy one. I closed my store more than 12 years ago, went back to college and became a middle school teacher but I still have all of my equipment and love to make and design jewelry that I sell on Etsy and craft fairs. So a rolling mill may now be in my future.

I just got in to making jewelry full time after decades of interest. Your videos are fantastic! I am remembering everything I was taught in class (Pratt Institute -Seattle, WA US). You are a great teacher! Just doing wire work right now while I collect the equipment. As I watch your videos I am making a list of essentials for my collection.

I have wanted a rolling mill for about 10 yrs now. Because I want a good quality one that lasts making a decision is a bit mindboggling because it is a huge investment for me. You have explained things so thouroughly and have shown us the different machines so it is really easy to understand. Now I only have to decide what needs are most important to me and keep adding to my rolling mill "piggy bank". I subscribed to your channel a few years ago and have watched many videos. I only watched the rolling mills ones now as my piggy bank savings are getting closer to my goal. Thanks for all your videos.

I've been looking on getting a roller mill and they have some nice ones on Amazon for very inexpensive. I'm probably going to order one very soon.

Thank you for sharing all that you do Andrew. I just purchased the DRM F130 re Flat as I wanted the extension rollers but not the combo on the rollers. My question is who sells extension rollers for making cuffs etc.? I know Kevin Potter of Potter USA has plans to make them in the near future (fingers crossed) but I can't seem to find anywhere else. Thanks for taking the time.

Thanks for taking the time to mentor all of us!! I think you've sold me on saving for the gear drive and extension rollers. Are there advantages/disadvantages with the adjustment wheel vs the T-Handle? I have noticed most of Durston rolling mills feature an adjustment wheel.

Knight Stalker No advantages nor disadvantages. The t bar was added to the Agile mills to lower the cost

As always your so detailed in everything you share. However, I need your help. I do have 2 questions: which slot is for thinning round wire & how do I properly align the settings on top?? I just got a budget like- combination 130mm mill;(like Pepe.. but not Pepe) and no paperwork 😒. Amazons trying to help but with no success so far. Those of you looking for a mill, spend a little more on Pepe and avoid my frustration.

Lots of great information here Andrew! I'm thinking of making a gearbox for a standard mill. Could be a Frankenstein monster or a winner perhaps. I'll build it then report back. Gimme the summer - got a day job!😃

Really enjoy your videos. Am a member of at the bench and appreciate what you do. Having a problem changing the extension roller. I finally got the clip off, now i am not sure how to remove the D extension top roller so i can replace it. Any tips. Can't find clear directions anywhere.

It should just slide off. Pull it perfectly straight as if you try to pull it off at an angle it will stick and you will have to use your rawhide mallet to tap it back on again.

Thank you once again Mr.Berry !!!!
How mite I send you a few pics of my new rolling mill that I just purchased from a ex-Goldsmith's estate. It is different than I am used to seeing. It I gray in color, no name and has two long crank handles( one on each side).
    Would appreciate your thoughts.
    Thank you,Cory

While it’s obvious that having square grooves makes it quite easy to roll square wire to then be drawn through whatever draw plate you want, is it at all possible to use a flat roller to do the same by rolling it slowly, quarter turn at a time with a lot more annealing?
I’ve recently bought a Durston that only has flat rollers and D shape extensions and I would definitely like to make my own wire too. I’m just a hobbyist so I don’t mind spending more time making wire, just wondering if it’s at all possible.

  • @marcosofsky2605

I was wondering if it is advisable to purchase a cheaper-$100-$150 rolling mill for a novice hobbyist, it makes no sense to spend $500-$600 even for least expensive Pepe tools rolling mill on my budget, but I would like to roll out some reused silver into large round wire or silver sheets for bezels and other projects.
