Falling birthrates: the economic and social consequences

- I spoke to GB News about the consequences of falling birth rates. Just 8% of young women say they don’t want to be mothers, but around 30% of young women are likely to end up childless. That is a source of grief to many and we should try to remove the barriers to having children. But it is also an economic problem, because without enough babies being born, we will not have enough young people entering the workforce to pay tax and support pensions and healthcare.
I am sick of politicians finding, late in the day, the dreadful consequences of their policies. Lack of affordable housing, workers rights, benefits muddles and tax have all contributed to low birth rates. It will take a generation to correct this demographic decline. But, the politicians are incapable of instituting the sort of tax and infrastructure reforms that have proven effective in other parts of Europe.
All of Europe has low birth rates, where are they successful in correcting this?
It's been over 50 years below replacement rate, and it started with the hormonal birth control and the s"xual revolution.
@@ShikuesiNowhere. It's been tried. It's the ladies avoiding the societal responsibility.
Legislate parenting to be unaffordable then ask why decades too late! pfft
The birthrate has been below replacement for over 50 years.
@@edheldude - Hence my use of the word 'Decades'!
@@nemosays6337 It wasn't unaffordable in the 70s or 80s. It's not a matter of legislation, that's just an excuse for people not prioritizing family.
@@edheldude - I was born in the 70's, so I know it was more affordable then, yet since the late 80's on the government/s have set policy and laid legislation that have made it almost impossible to support a household without 2 incomes hence the mother is now out of the home for most of the day for most average families, hence the social decline and the lack of respect in society at large! jmho of course!
I don’t think a day passes that I’m not glad I’m not a mother.
A good workforce needs treating well too....otherwise you end up in dire straits
Insane housing costs ruin lives.
But lets import a million people a year...
Fastly (not really a word!) becoming my new favourite MP! Have been listening to a number of videos of you, to help me script an email to my school regarding gender ideology, sexuality and sex education in schools, thank you from the bottom of my heart on behalf of children for speaking out and protecting them 🙏
Same .. I'm not a conservative party supporter but I think she is a woman of high integrity and very much respect her unlike 95% + of the current crop in parliament on all sides
we have 270,000 aborshuns.
Miriam on freeze 😆
Vote for miriam to save our children.
parenthood is the toughest and worst job in the world
It is a tough job with all the current pressures society places on every family member
@@VictoriaShirley-xx1zm it is...i am a lone parent with zero help from anyone and havent had a day off of childcare for the last 4 years and every year it just gets more difficult for me especially as i am 57 this year
How we have built society has gone badly wrong as too many people are isolated without support. This is not how it should be. I recommend you visit your local Church where hopefully you will find a supportive community. Ideally one that is aimed at children and families to involve the children. You will be welcomed. This is also good for our spiritual and mental health. Hope you don’t mind me suggesting. Take care x
@@VictoriaShirley-xx1zm thank you for your kind words...wishing you a blessed day
Emily laughs at quite a serious issue yet I guess she's either that insulated or ignorant! js
The world is over populated.
This is true. Managing population decline without destroying The West is the problem.
International Capitalism intends to destroy us to protect their profits.
The Left intends to destroy us because they hate us.
birthrates are falling worldwide
