How to Fix the Dark Cockpit in X-Plane 12 | RXP XP12 Enhancer

- X-Plane 12 aircraft always have dark cockpit during daylight. This is an issue that Laminar is aware of and will fix eventually. Luckly, a fix is available to address this issue with RXP XP12 Enhancer. This mod is a freeware Lua script that will enhance the visuals focusing on exposure, tonemapping, white balance, sky and atmosphere, volumetric clouds and night lighting.

Sam this will probably be your most important and significant XP12 video yet! I found this Lua script a couple months ago myself and it literally saved XP12 from being scraped off my hard drive. Wow Sam, that is one of the most informative videos I have seen for any flight sim experience. It addressed the number 1 complaint I have had for years, the dark textures in my favorite simulator, XP12. My thanks to both you and Marko.

Wonderfull!! Thranda's Daher Kodiak panel looks now as it should look like! MFD and PFD frames stopped to be ugly bright! Love it! Thanks for sharing this info.

If this works it is the best news ever . I have spent 2 years posting about how when the "other sim" came out XP pivoted from a simulator for pilots, to a video game focussing on external lighting visuals and reflections on puddles after so many years of honing flight dynamics and the cockpit experience . My appeal was for the developers to consider that PFD,MFD,GPS are EMISSIVE instruments so could they not just have one slider setting to adjust the brightness of the EMISSIVE displays - As there was no response ( except developers drinking there own hubris and saying it is the best product ever , and the new lighting model is great ) , I have stuck with XP11 to be able to fly the models of my real airplanes . XP12 cockpit experience really was a show stopper - I'm off to my server to install this , and if it works the shouts of joy will be heard all the way from South Africa

I know it’s probably too late now, but can you fly the X-Crafts Embraer with this? I love that plane but the cockpit is too dark to enjoy it to the fullest extent

I've always thought the cockpits were too bright in my experience. They look like they always have a dome light turned on and no shadowing in the foot wells. I also have shadows turned up to max under settings.
The only problem is the menu comes on when you load an aircraft and you cannot toggle it Off/On with an assigned button and only with a mouse.
It is annoying but still great =)
You can if you edit the lua script. You can even choose which tweaks you want checked also without having to do it on every flight.
@@Patrickhajjar Thanks for that. I don't suppose you can give me some instructions on this? How do I assign a button and turn it off/on. I've done the autoshow function already so it does not come on automatically.
@@jamespimenta4257 No worries so as you did with the autoshow just do the same with the tweaks that you don't want below it. Also the last tweak regarding the fxaa you can also enable it by default by searching for "Misc". Below you'll these lines:

Just change the nb from 0 to 1

I just tried it and does look really good! The only thing that didn’t please my eyes is that the cockpit turns blue when using toliss. Other than that it’s great.
I did notice that too. Change the exposure a bit.

I had to disable 3JFPS as this conflicted with RXP, also a script called 'PP_FULL COMPLECT 1.lua' - not sure what that was - then runs like a dream - I'm VERY IMPRESSED!
I don't have such a folder name in the plugins folder. Where do I download the script and all? It's not straight forward to me.

Looks Fantastic, sadly when i load xplane the script is sent to quarantine. Im assuming it needs an update for 12.1.
It moves the script to the quarantine folder automatically. Something is wrong with this script
FYI doesn't work with version 12.1.0 - Is a patch/upgrade available?

Thanks for this. However, I'm not seeing the enhanced dialog box even after re-loading "all scripts", etc. The lua file is properly placed in the lua scripts folder. My setup is a triple monitor
I am really not sure. Do you have flywithlua for xp12?
@Q8Pilot yes. I can see the various options in the plug-in folder
FYI - the script dialog box where one can select/de-select the options appears just fine in a single monitor setup - it does not in a triple monitor configuration.
This script has not been updated for 12.1.1 and I am sad!

Thanks for this Q8. Does anyone know why my system keeps moving the file to the Fly With Lua quarantined scripts folder?
From the FlywithLua menu, select "Don't move bad scripts to Qurantine"
Goes into quarantine list.... hell nah

Yes that's correct. No VisualXP here.
@@Q8Pilot Thank you for confirming. I tested this with and without VisualXP also. It mostly runs okay but there are moments where you'll see both systems battling one another.
All in all, RXP's XP12 Enhancer is certainly a game changer for daytime flights. Thanks for making the video and bringing it to our attention.
@@ColinM9991 Which one would you pick to keep on? I'll instal this tomorrow as the dark cockpits are jarring but I'd miss visualxp
@@ClimbandMaintain for now I'm going to stick with the XP12 Enhancer for a few flights to see how much of a difference the cockpit lighting makes. It's never bothered me too much but, having seen this plugin, now I might find it hard to go back.
My VisualXP has problems connecting to the Internet and then won't load. Sometimes works, usually doesn't so I'll give this a whirl, thanks.
