If people want a little extra info on Trell without accidentally looking at spoilers online, Trell was first mentioned in chapter 9 of Mistborn: The Final Empire, when Sazed pitches Trellism to Vin as she is getting a haircut. Its cool to see how things that were mentioned as minor worldbuilding details are woven into the story 5-6 books later!
Also, I think we are meant to think that the person we see at the end of Bands of Mourning is Kelsier, but the reveal will be that its actually Spook. He was the only mistborn we knew of existing post Catacendre, and we dont know that he died, only that stopped being the Ruler of Elendel after a hundred years or so. I think it's possible he went searching for Atium with knowledge that it would be needed to fight anyone who discovered the bands of mourning (and got his scars at the pits of hathsin), or he scarred his arms to pay homage to Kelsier, who he looked up to. If he was able to find atium, he could have lived several hundred years to the time of Wax and Wayne with feruchemy, compounding it with allomancy like the lord ruler. Of course, Spook is not a Feruchemist, but he could have used hemalurgy to obtain Atium's feruchemical power. This seems plausible to me because we know he was interested in hemalurgy due to the book given to Marasi, and it would explain the Spike through the eye he has in the statue, on the coin, and the half-ironsight vision in Wax's metal mind flashback.
This recap is really appreciated because I've forgotten almost everything plot-wise, I just remember the characters and their identities and relationships.
No.1 thing I want is savant level Marasi. I can imagine her burning metal all the time letting the world go by at x1.2 speed as her normal. From an outside perspective her aging would slow down. If she ever stops burning it'd be like switching the world into slow motion from where she's so accustomed to people moving faster. Kind of like me if I try and listen to an audiobook anything slower than x1.4
Some things refresher wise: ( based on preview chapters - this was stuff I had to go look up myself so just things you need to look up before reading) The metal of the spike in Wax’s kandra wife was an unknown metal. That’s important. The coins and allomantic grenades and their technology is from the southern scadrians and are gonna be very important. Everyone loves hemalurgy!
Book 1: Aw shit Wax has to marry Steris but he's really gonna fall in love with Marasi.... Book 2: Oh, maybe not?... Book 3: OMG Steris is the best, Wax and Steris fall in love and its perfect, and Sanderson has once again upended my expectations
Great recap! I literally laughed out at the item collection animation. Excited for book 4! I love Marasi and Steris, they are two of my favorite Sanderson characters. Biggest theory I have is that the list metal is definitely atium and Steris will be an atium misting! She already likes to plan for the future, it would make sense if she could see a little bit into it.

Amazing video as always Merphy! love the use of stick figures to summarise the plot. Quick question: do you have planned to read Secret History before going to The Lost Metal? I think it would be wonderful to have your opinions on that book and what it implies for the Lost Metal!
Harmony can be prepping all the peoples for meeting this Sword someone and guiding this someone through them. Also can be generational, so Teen-Allomancers Team is on the table in my opinion. Mistborn Era 1 is (imo) the most cohesive, fun, swashbuckling, and accessible branch of the Cosmere. Start there, get hooked, and do the inevitable and read the whole thing ☺️
I started out hating on Era 2 and it won me over pretty solidly. **COSMERE SPOILERS BELOW** Kelsier being alive, at least at the time of liberating the southern Scadrians was not where I went with this. My understanding was that this is Spook, possessed (influenced?) by Kelsier, because Kelsier has no physical body. What I am interested to find out is whether or not we are going to get the final piece in how Kelsier transitioned into Thaidakar because the timeline is really messing with me. Stormlight technically happens before Era 2, so I am super confused.
SA is before Era 2, but The Sovergn saving the Southerners happened just after Era 1 ended because he made it so they could stand the climate change. Alec said that The Sovergn had been dead some 300 years. The reason we think/believe/are lead to believe its Kel is because of the scars on his arms. The metal spike in the eye is likely how Kel was attached to the body and is able to be in the physical realm. I doubt he posseded Spook since he was busy being Lord Mistborn for a century and very much in the publc eye at the time THe Sovergn was in the south.
Aha... I don't know why that didn't occur to me. That clears up the chronology, but it would mean that Kelsier would lose his connection to Harmony if he went off world (hence why he cant leave Scadrial). Feruchemy seems to work off world, but maybe hemalurgy doesn't? If that is the case, how would he be able to even make connections across the cosmere? How did he get his old body back? Is it his old body? Regardless, he has been building the Ghostbloods since being the Sovereign. So many damn questions with this that boil down to an understanding of what is, and isn't, possible with investiture and why Kelsier cares about the cosmere as a whole.
@@danbourlotos5188 I'm thinking whatever body he attached himself to took on the physical appearance his cognative shadow saw himself as. Just like Kal's Shash scar not healing, Kel sees his scars as a part of him, so his physical appearance conforms. Or, maybe he hyjacked a Kandra using his old bones, though that has its own implications I don't even want to think about right now. Could Kel in a body go to a different world? Maybe via a perpindicularity, othewise maybe he would need to get a spike to a different world and do whatever they did before on the new world? I think, as a cognitave shaow that temporarily held preservation, he is too tied to the land and that's why he is stuck where he is in Shadesmare.
I'm all for Kelsier still kicking around, Hell, I would love it if he were an antagonist for the SLA crew. I am just struggling with how that can actually happen (has happened). Yeah, there is a lot going on here mechanically. You brought up some ideas that I will have to think about more. Thanks!
I honestly do not think this "sword" is going to be a big deal. To me, it didn't feel as if Sanderson was trying to set it up as something important. I just kinda assumed it'll be Wax, like how you kinda just know Rand will be the Dragon Reborn in the eye of the world
The Southern Scadrians' savior, referred to as the "Sovereign," is mistaken for the old Lord Ruler. But at the end of Bands of Mourning, when we see the memory stored in the coin of the Sovereign arriving to save them from the Ice Death, the man is described as having layers of scars on his arm similar to Kelsier's, and the first thing he says to them is "Survive." This is supposed to clue us in that the Sovereign is Kelsier. Also, if you have not read Mistborn: Secret History, that goes into some detail about Kelsier's whole situation.
The most important thing you need to know is, the name of his gun is VIN-dication.
If people want a little extra info on Trell without accidentally looking at spoilers online, Trell was first mentioned in chapter 9 of Mistborn: The Final Empire, when Sazed pitches Trellism to Vin as she is getting a haircut.
I just kinda assumed it'll be Wax, like how you kinda just know Rand will be the Dragon Reborn in the eye of the world
Did you read heroes of Olympus
Wait wait wait hold up, it was KELSIER?!?!? i thought it was the lord ruler? *frantically goes to re-read that chapter*
Wait what? Did I completely miss something? Cause I was pretty sure the Savior was the sovereign not kelsier
@@TheOrangeBlade yeah i rechecked with the wiki. i guess i forgot lol
Wow. I read these books and remember approximately none of this.
Guess I need to read them again 😂
i'll be back here after i read era 2 (i'm still in era 1)
I love Era 2. I don’t understand at all why people don’t enjoy it. It makes me sad for them.
