  • War, battle, soldier, borders, nation, patriotism, nationalism - are these overhyped words? Or do they create an emotion of pride, loyalty, undying love for the nation, and the spirit of being a nationalist? When a soldier is martyred in a battle, collectively, as a society, we rush to pay tributes to his bravery and courage, with tearful eyes, and sing praises of his great love for the nation! But once the frenzy of this pride upon the martyr’s sacrifice is over, and he fades in the memory of the public at large, then what happens to his family, and his loved ones?
Is it only the government’s duty to provide for the family left behind by the martyr? As a society, is it not our duty as well, to care for the family, to support them, to offer all possible help? Sadly, that is something we all forget to do… for us, a chest-thumping, bombastic display of nationalism or patriotism is the only emotion we embrace…
In today’s story, let us peep a little into the lives of the family that a martyred hero has left behind, and see how they grapple with the troubled situation.
