Indira, you very well simplied the poem for us! The poet himself has experienced so much sad ness in his personal life that he has well depicted the disappointment of the country dwellers who are trying to survive by selling at their roadside stands to the city folks driving that way. Sadly they may stop by to ask about nearby gas stations or road directions. The gap between thriving rich and grief stricken poor is very wide. Your selection of poems bring out real issues Indira. There is hope and dream of love even beyond death, wow!! This reminds me of the Sanskrit shloka, Asatao Maa...all the way to Mrutyor Maa, Amritam gamaya! The 4 elements of nature - earth, air, fire and water make the poem very interesting and the 5th element - the space is referred to when she says the ashes scattered all over. Kudos to Indira for bringing out such complex and hidden meanings in her simple yet elegant style!

The touch of deep sadness in the poem is well brought out by Indira. The helplessness of the Irishman who like any other soldier has not decided to wage a war but as part of his duty, risking his life to vanish in the clouds is very touching indeed. Indira made it so vivid the futility of any war. Thanks
