Welcome to another step by step jon boat modification tutorial! In this video I'll walk you thru the process of how I added custom rod lockers within an 18 foot jon boat build out.
The customer dropped off this pre framed 18 foot Big Jon. After drop in aluminum boxes were riveted in, I began the tubed rod locker fabrication process. This includes custom framing, aluminum sheet paneling, drilling a million holes for rod tubes, cutting/installing/gluing pvc rod tubes in place, pour foam, building a custom rod butt rack, installing hydroturf throughout the 4 foot rod box.
I will also give you a final walk thru of the finished product and demonstrate how the rod locker functions. Of course I will share some tips and tricks along the way and show all tools and materials needed to do the job!

You say "your customer". If i am a customer, how do i find someome like this
Last question on the pour foam sealing for leaking out . Could you use (zip tape) ? To me it's thin and stretches a little but holds better then gorilla.. thanks again
Yeah man, heck you could use painters tape. Whatever works to create a seal.
Question on the rod butt holding stand alone would doing a divit or shallow 1/2 round to keep the rods from side to side movements help or no? Thanks
Probably so! I should have done that, lol
Man, appreciating your hard work for real. Certain things take patience and talent! Truly grateful to say your an inspiration dude!
That’s what she said lol
Awesome as always! If you ever do want seal that foam after cutting, I’ve found the polyacrylic (wood finish) works great. It’s also super easy to brush or spray on and dries super quick.
Love it! Your work is very inspirational! My question is about those Plano box dividers. Where do you get something like that? Is that something you custom made?
I love Wonderboy! But I understand Dana's position. He's not getting paid to make weight, he's getting paid to make weight and fight! Maybe the contract could be written better to guarantee your percentage for making weight. But full fight money for no fight doesn't seem to make sense.
Question, I did a jon Boat conversion a few years ago using wood for the deck and hatches. I sealed the wood with oil based products on some parts and shower waterproofing rubberised compound. I'm now getting wood rot and fungus on both sections. Any suggestions on how to fix?
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and keep your videos coming.
Magnifique bravo beau travail 👏💯
Awesome work. Two suggestions - slightly bevel the inside of the PVC (so it's not a sharp edge)(there are plumbing tools that do this, almost like a counter sink bit) and spray paint the first few inches you can see the same flat black that you used in the opposite end. That way everything you see inside the locker is black.
Appreciate it. I personally like tge white, easier to see exactly where to stick the rids, especially at night. Also not sure if paint would eventually rub off or not, especially on some of the thicker 6th sense rod sleeves we use. I understand the beveling but not sure it wouldmakea difference with the hydroturf overlapping the lip. A lot of guys heat up the piping and flare the ends but I wanted to try something a bit different. Thanks for input and watching!
Beautiful work! That’s a fishing machine. Thanks for sharing this build.
Thanks for watching!
Looks awesome! One question, after you cut the pour foam did you reseal it so it remains closed cell?
Nope, not up top. It's almost flush with the deck. I'm not personally worried about water intrusion there.
How do you reseal closed cell foam?
First here, amazing work brother🤟
Thanks you!!! 👊
Loved this video, thank you!!
Thanks man!!!
You do great work Cousin
Thank you my cuzin
Beautiful boat man.
thanks!
