    Bee Hive or Wasps Nest ? I don't know do you ? Please help me !
    So in this weeks woodturning video, I picked up this amazing cool Bee's hive or hornets nest , I'm not sure which but its so cool. I wanted to make something so crazy with this and of course I needed to add a little resin ! check this out you wont believe it!

      Paper wasp's nest. It COULD be hornets, hornets are a type of paper wasp. Beehives are made of wax not paper.

    The cells look great filled in with resin but I think you should take that small piece and do it clear. Turn it into a jewelry box or something. Really show that it's a wasp nest!

    That was a rare, double decker nest of the common paper wasp. Excellent project, gorgeous bowls.👍👍

    I love both bowls. The colors remind me of Van Gogh paintings. The blue/yellow bowl is starry nights, and the green/yellow one looks like sunflowers. Beautiful. Thanks Nick.

      I agree wholeheartedly with this statement. Van Gogh is my favorite artist and those 2 paintings are so beautiful.

      ⁠​⁠@@juliadagnall7103bees don’t stack their hive like that, they hang single combs for brood and honey, bees use wax to make honeycomb where as wasps use wood pulp making a more paper type structure. the hexagon shap it most efficient found in nature a lot. This is definitely a wasp nest.

      It's a wasp nest. Bees make their nests with wax, wasps gather wood.

      @@juliadagnall7103You're just trolling. They're paper they're not wax. That's the difference there's no honey made in these. Only eggs laid in the very metal which is missing here. So you either just don't know much about insects and pollinators. Or you're trolling. Yes they have the same shape. That's part of nature.

    I like the blue and yellow better, the colors blended and swirled so well,and it shows the hive structure so much better. They both polished up really well.
    Definitely a wasp/hornet hive of some sort since it has a paper-like structure.

    The blue and yellow is my favorite due to the visibility of the cells themselves. Both are beautiful and very unique.

    Those are definitely wasp nests - I have them on my balcony now and then. Beasties never give me any trouble really and it is super interesting to watch them. But what you did them - so gorgeous Everything about them is perfect: the colours, the structure, the shine - I'm totally in love with these.     I get the need for color, but it makes me wonder if it would be more interesting with a clear resin…albeit a lot more rustic in color.
    Still, love it!

    I love the blue one. Just so you know bees make a wax comb so those are wasp or hornet because they make a paper comb. Very pretty though Nick thank you for sharing.

    I love them both, but I think I might have liked them more with a slightly more translucent resin colour. That way, you would have seen more of the honeycombs. Stunning though

    whoa! both are unreal. the bluer one really shows off the interior of the nest, and the greener one has amazing colors. both are beautiful!

    Those are wasp/hornets nests. I watch The Hornet King, and that's what the cells look like. This project was so cool, turned out fantastic, as usual!!!

    Would have been cool with an amber coloured resin that looks like honey too. One of the bowls makes me think of Starry night. 😊

    Great composition Nick. You might want to use sanding sealer the next time you use insect nest as media. It is made of cellulose like wood. Will make those elements seal up and shine even more. Nice bowls my friend.

    I love the green and gold for color but the blue and yellow is gear for showing the hive. Maybe take the piece left and put it in clear resin and use it to stick the bowls. Amazing work

    At first I was disappointed that you'd used such opaque resin because the hive pieces aren't able to be seen clearly. But the bowls look so cool, so I somewhat forgive you. They give the bowls a wonderful dimension and design. However, it would be nice to have used a more transparent resin so the hives are the feature. Maybe next time.

    Would have liked to see one in just clear. You can't really tell what the honeycomb pattern is. Maybe even a lamp where the light would shine through the honeycombs.

    I think the blue bowl looks stunningly beautiful, the green one is beautiful too, but if you had made say a pot, and did orange and yellow with mabey a bit brown or yellow it might give a a sort of honey color, and get slightly deeper in to the resin to expose the hive It would look gorgeous or even just clear resin to show its true beauty,, as you can see the hive very well in the blue bowl, that one is my favourite and is gorgeous.

    Looks great. I think you should do one in clear with metal flakes or hybershift added so you can see the wasp nest better.

    I love the green and yellow one. My high school (37 years ago) colors were green and gold and our mascot was the Hornet, so this would have been perfect back then!

    i agree with some of the other comments suggesting a clear resin, that way you can see the nest structures in 3D through the resin. a light amber tint would look really cool, almost the color of honey! 🐝
