today i miss artists like you that don´t care about money you were a troubadur a king of coolness thanks for the wonderful music kevin i never forget you i was lucky to see you in concert in 1978 in munich fantastico
You're god damn right it's Ollie Halsall. Nobody on Earth could play guitar like that, just like nobody else on Earth could write songs like Kevin. The best duo in all of rock 'n' roll. It is the biggest shame in all of rock 'n' roll music that they've been swept under times rug.
Lovely track, very autobiographical. I believe he was not ambitious and was a dreamer whose best pastime was fishing. He spent his last years in a solitary place in France. My parents and I went on a holiday to France in 2008 or 09 and bumped into him in a bar in Carcassonne, (he lived not far from there - excuse my French btw) having a glass of lager , wearing the same suit and hat you see in a 2008 video here on RUclips . He looked older than his age though. .I hope he's found the peace he'd always been looking for in his life. Nice tribute, thank you.
As I found over the years, 'things' and the acquisition and accumulation of them bring no pleasure in the long term. I intended to emigrate to France and live out my days reading and doing the things that hurt no one but make me happy. All that is gone now after this brexit stupidity along with my dream of living an Ayrsien lifestyle. My happiest days were spent traveling around Europe in an old van.
I love that photo of his sitting under ' his tree' at the beginning in the South of France. Not sure if you've ever seen Kevin's last interview ,it's either on the Guardian or Independent web page...yeah it's just lovely and that tree was very much his place just to drink wine & chill in the sun 🌞
I have loved Kevin Ayers from the moment I first heard Soft Machine's first album (a bit late ;-) in 1972. This song came late in his output, but it epitomized for me why I love his music so much and why I feel a special link with him, despite never meeting him. As another commenter says, this is my life and my philosophy, beautifully summarized by a true troubadour. Thanks Kevin.
I had planned to exact same lifestyle as Kevin's then the brexit catastrophe happened and I'm stuck in the UK. I know exactly why Kevin chose to live where he did and how he did. This is a manifesto for all of us dreamers.
Basically, Kevin's life story ;) I've got no ambition, guess I'm out of place 'Cause I'd rather go fishing than run in the race I'm naturally lazy but what can I do I? I was born in the wrong place, wrong time too Just working for money working for pay All seems so pointless day after day I'm happy dreaming and it's good for my health And only when I'm dreaming am I really myself Some people say its just running away But then everyone's running somewhere And I still believe that the best we can do Is to know where we are and be there For what we call progress We're selling our soul And there's just too much going on out there Beyond my control
I have meMorised these lyrics for 30 years word for word. Truest words ❤️

The lyrics make perfect sense to me, as does everything else on the track. Sadly missed.
Thank you for this track. The words epitomise Kevin's philosophy on life. I've been a fan of his music since the Soft Machine days. I will miss him.
Yes, 'tis indeed Mr Halsall doing the solo at 2m 44s and what a work of art it is.
Absolute work of art as you say.....but there were so many . I like the solo on "Blue"...Britain`s best guitarist.
My favourite guitar solo of all time just genius! Ollie Halsall what a great natural player.!!
He was right and honest. The slow life is a happy life.
Sadly missed..Kevin Ayers..R.I.P.
Our lives are but a blink of an eye in the great scheme of things..

It was Bananamour in 1974 for me. All of the above applies to me also.
@@markshelim It's probably his best album too, where he gets everything right. All the best to you.
Priceless
great Kevin Ayers ! a meditation on one's life ;)
I had planned to exact same lifestyle as Kevin's then the brexit catastrophe happened and I'm stuck in the UK. I know exactly why Kevin chose to live where he did and how he did. This is a manifesto for all of us dreamers.
Divino Kevin.
I love this
Thanks to Ollie and Kevin!
Basically, Kevin's life story ;)
I've got no ambition, guess I'm out of place
'Cause I'd rather go fishing than run in the race
I'm naturally lazy but what can I do I?
I was born in the wrong place, wrong time too
Just working for money working for pay
All seems so pointless day after day
I'm happy dreaming and it's good for my health
And only when I'm dreaming am I really myself
Some people say its just running away
But then everyone's running somewhere
And I still believe that the best we can do
Is to know where we are and be there
For what we call progress
We're selling our soul
And there's just too much going on out there
Beyond my control
❤
