Warung in Malaysia is known as gerai. Eating nasi campur in Malaysia, it is recommended that you take some gravy to go with it and you should mix it together. Nasi taste bland but with gravy it will give interesting flavour to it. Some eateries will add a few gravies to give more interesting taste to the nasi.

I don't think mochi is "Malay" food. By the way Malay is an ethnic group, like Chinese or Indian. I think you were at Petaling Street which is KL's Chinatown. Almost all the foods there are Chinese foods.
If you want to try Malay foods, go to Kampung Baru KL, and for Indian food... Well Indian (Mamak) restaurants are almost everywhere but Brickfields KL is where our Little India is.

that "mochi" is a traditional chinese snack. i guess the stall just call it mochi for easier explanation and to be frank, it is similar to mochi. for malays, a similar mochi snack would be buah melaka/onde-onde.

@@marklehmann for me it gonna be hard for me to find vegetarian food in Malaysia.. because sometimes if it is fried veggies the ingredients will involve some dry shrimp or anchovies that already been pounded by mortar and pestle.. masak lemak labu also had anchovies.. always eat it with rice and with sambal ketuk (fresh green chili mix with anchovies sometimes and a bit of salt pounded with mortal and pestle) this is just one of another simple Malay dishes.. kampung style..

@@marklehmann It is easy to get vegetarian food in Malaysia.
First , start talking to the vendor. Second.Tell him / her that you do not eat animal, you only eat vegetable. Thirdly ,Ask them to prepare a vegetarian version of the noodle/ rice meal/ food for you.
Most of them will gladly comply.
