I don't get why that was secret. Maybe not widely known but more because most people didn't need to know than for secrecy. Everyone who would be involved knew and the rest didn't need to care.
@@keiyakins I believe that the crew may have known about the secondary mission, but it was probably considered a secret mission because the public didn't know about it. All they knew was that the Aurora was launched to set up a phasegate.

Most interesting thing is they detected probably QEP with scanning room aboard. Prior to that is first officer telling to two crew members they are incompetent. :)
You don't actually need a propulsion cannon or repulsion cannon to get into the Aurora if you take the top path and kind of nudge your way through the two blockades on your route there.
@@TheLastBacon Yeah. a lot easier. To get into cargo bay 3 without a propulsion cannon you have shimmy on a burning edge of collapsed roofing and take quite a lot of fall damage as well
It wouldve been so cool to see the auroras crew actually survive and seeing the rescue mission actually start in proper, imagine seeing a big hangar open up and a cyclops and a bunch of seamoths and prawns spill out and start surveying the area
Can we just appreciate the captain of the Aurora for sacrificing himself in an attempt to steer the ship away from the dead zone? If he hadn’t the player would have died before landing, or land on the dead zone itself making survivability impossible. Hats off to you sir, you may have saved only one person with your sacrifice, but it that one life was enough to save the planet.
The Last Bacon Yes it does indeed take alot of courage but i think a ship of that size would be able to make very little, if any movement in the atmosphere of the planet, let alone precise enough to make a difference. I think it was more about luck. Hey bacon I found something interesting in subnautica you might wanna check out, after hatching the baby emperors you can pick up the enzyme 42 with a propulsion cannon and move it, and I touched an infected peeper with it and the green dots disappeared and the enzyme disappeared as well, I treated it again on a biter and it did it again, I think this a cool thing the devs added.

Oh, there's a slightly more ominous reason for the large amount of reapers in the area! One word: dinner :| And yeah, the Aurora running was... questionable. 100 lifepod spaces, room for 150 people, actually 157 people. 40 support crew sounds pretty standard, but given that they would have been on the lowest tier of command, I bet they were the ones who got screwed over. Ryley and Ozzy were incredibly lucky to actually get to the pods, and there's a removed text which is supposedly Ryley's log from the day of the crash that says he was doing a maintenance check on them at the time. It's possible that he literally only survived because he was in the bay in the first place (and even then, it still would have been sheer luck that he landed in the shallows without big predators around, and that he woke up in time to put the fire out!). But yeah, probably some very dodgy stuff going on. Lifepods that don't work, overcrowding, stuff like that.
Oh that's really interesting about the removed log :) I suppose it would be possible - already kinda assumed that only the top people would get lifepods.
How did Ozzy die? Since there are no large jellyshrooms near his pod. Plus the crabsnakes stay strictly in their biome and usually don't leave their shroom

One theory I heard stuck with me. The Aurora actually landed upon a massive cave system that linked the magma zone and the shallows. this is why we can see the carcasses of Reaper Leviathans in the lava zone, as well as why the reaper leviathans populate the area around the Aurora, and explains how the big, clunky lava leviathans were able to drag them from all the way down there; without navigating the more narrow cave systems that the player takes. sad to think that all those Lava Leviathans are just going to starve to death down there.
I think the green luminescent bits at the back were ship bays where people could fly out of. It seems like a good position, and you see a decent bit of forcefeild things in docking bays in scifi.
Amazing vid as always. When I first stumbled upon your channel, I couldn't believe that you have so many less subs than you deserve. I hope to follow your growth as a person and a channel, and I can only wish you the very best.
One thing I found lacking ingame was the ability to clean up or harvest the wrecks scattered about, atleast the parts without interiors.. think about it, we can gather scrap metal pieces.. when we get a laser cutter and eventually the PRAWN suit w/ drill arm, why can't we strip apart larger wrecks for scrap metal and maybe other materials? Just bugs me it wasn't implemented.. Great vid dude, keep it up! :D
Gaël Spalt it’s something about it being against alterra law I think it’s in the metal salvage PDA it says that you can use metal that fell off but not directly salvage the ship which I think extends to the wrecks
Btw thank you for making these videos, usually when I get back into playing one of my fav open world building survivals I watch lore videos for some extra content, your pretty much the only good Subnautica lore RUclipsr and I like rewatching your videos
Perhaps a more disturbing thing to point out, nobody seems to mention the discoloration of the water in the Crash Zone seems to have a noticeable red to orange tint. And when you think about it, between the compromised starboard side lifepods, the oversized crew, some of the port side lifepods not having two occupants, and the PDA message when reaching the upper Aurora entrance stating “Caution: scans show the digestive tracts of nearby lifeforms contain human tissues.", you can get an idea of why the Crash Zone water has the hue it does.

1:21 the funny thing is, after playing subnautica for so long (and seeing the massive ship crashed in the water) I kinda forgot it was a spaceship, and thought of it more as some massive cruise ship that crashed on an alien planet (idk)
I actually wish we could go further into the ship. Like (if there is one) a hanger bay, the bridge, life support, more crew quarters and facilities (galleys, cinema ect) becuase with that much ship we had very small access to. That would admittedly still a fairly small portion of the ships interior, however it appears that most of the ships interior is for the reactor and drive systems and utilities.
Now this may seem off topic, but what if they released subnautica themed underwater R.C boats like the seamoth or the cyclops or the seatruck in real life. That would be very fun.
not sure about RC, but actual submarines the cyclops is a licensed version of a real life submarine with the same name. both can go 500 meters deep by default

It is possible that in the hull failure, many of the port side lifepods were also compromised. If the blast was able to completely destroy all of the starboard side life pods in one go, I'd say that about half of the port side lifepods would also be damaged, become entangled, or get destroyed on other debris from the ship's disintegrating hull.
Honestly I don’t think it could be the cyclops bay because first of all it’s on the top of the ship and the ship is pretty tall and second of all cyclops is only meant for water as its description is “a vast industrial submarine” it doesn’t say that it’s used for Sea and space like the seamouth or the prawn suit

I know I'm a bit late to this video but I wish there was a multiplayer system in this game. Like if four people wanted to play with each other, two can be in life pod 5 (of course) while it's random of what the other two would get, just in a safe location.
I have a theory The aurora wasn't shot down by the alien gun When your loading the game you can see the aurora crashing down when it's not even close to the gun which could means that something else happened to the aurora that we don't know

Warning controlled crash beginning meanwhile abandon ship starts oh so that's why no one made it out the burns were to severe and soon as they went into the water and died cause off what's it called
In the original plot for the aurora there was to be an underwater isle that you could move some debris away and swim down a rusty algae covered hallway where you could find a joke “Therapy” room where there were machines with TVs in front of them where Riley could interact with them the joke was that the machine asked what is Riley’s favourite colour and when he replies blue it would say “blue is like the vast oceans of earth” and Riley would punch and break the machine, you would also find the cinema, not to much there, but you were supposed to find the prawn suit mark 3 “which was considered to be very new and just recently functioning” so Riley would have to shove a computer chip into his neck so that he could be compatible with the suit, in general I wish they kept this because it adds a lot to Riley’s character and what he’s willing to do to survive.

If you have watched the Netflix Lost In Space, you will get this reference, what did the Resolute look like before it was attacked? What dis it look like busy with people? just a thought tho.

that pillot of the aurora is skilled af. he literally landed a 1.2 kilometer long ship on a 2km x 2km volcano. if he would have tried to save himself instead of getting the perfect landing spot. they would have landed in the void.

i have a idea when after the credits theres a 1 minute cutscene where you are back on earth and while sleeping the kharaa gets ahold of you while sleeping and as you slowly pass away the game plays a dream of the aurora docked and the boarding passengers for its deep space trip. and you have memories of seeing a green laser beam from the precursor gun slowly approaches the ship. the alarms sound and it hits the bottom of the ship and destroys the aurora and you see yourself hopping into the lifepod and the dream slowly starts to fade giving leaks to the aurora and what the dock looked like.
It's a landmark,a depressing landmark. Because you are basically the only one who gets to use it. Thats just sad :( Also because basically everyone you knew in it died! That too
Make no mistake my space brothers and sisters, the Aurora is a Spacecraft Carrier and a WARSHIP. For solid proof look no further than that little hanger door right behind the control tower, which is actually the exit of the carrier's star fighter/interceptor squadrons. We know this is true because we also know that Each pilot is also paired with R2-D2 assistant droid unit and you know I'm telling the truth since there's a droid related PDA passage on Aurora. The pieces of evidence are coming together, people! Alterra is going to WAR!
about those luminescent green parts, i have theorized myself that means the ship was not built but fabricated, as the knife has the same same thing so does the life pods, and other things that are fabricated have similar glowing parts
During my first playthrough in survival, I was unaware that I was supposed to, let alone could, repair the drive core to stop the radiation leak, meaning I could take off the radiation suit. So I spent like, three days of total time being without any other suit, and being unable to use the Rebreather, so I’d constantly be going back and fourth to my Seamoth, making suicide dives to really deep depths, and only barely making it back to my Seamoth.
For some reason I think that the other lifepods that were 'missing' aka not in the map may have landed in the void or maybe has successfully deployed, but it has been swollen by some sort of creature.. And sometimes I think that the lifepods did launch successfuly and the crew lived their life's, but soon died by the kharaa bacterium. I kinda made this theory because in the intro our character was hitted by the metal thing and then passed out and probably wake up after a few weeks. My other theory about the Aurora is that.. The top thing that you said that maybe is used to launch some sort of vechile could be a cyclops. And I noticed that the Aurora brings submersible stuff that is related to water transport for some reason? It could probably be 2 different reasons, 1 maybe because of their secret mission aka saving the degasi crew. Or maybe because the Aurora ship was designed to be a Capital ship made for water landing purposes. Well.. Who knows? :P I also appreciate you read your viewer's comments tbh. That's really neat.

It's possible that he literally only survived because he was in the bay in the first place (and even then, it still would have been sheer luck that he landed in the shallows without big predators around, and that he woke up in time to put the fire out!).
But yeah, probably some very dodgy stuff going on. Lifepods that don't work, overcrowding, stuff like that.
Oh that's really interesting about the removed log :) I suppose it would be possible - already kinda assumed that only the top people would get lifepods.

One theory I heard stuck with me. The Aurora actually landed upon a massive cave system that linked the magma zone and the shallows. this is why we can see the carcasses of Reaper Leviathans in the lava zone, as well as why the reaper leviathans populate the area around the Aurora, and explains how the big, clunky lava leviathans were able to drag them from all the way down there; without navigating the more narrow cave systems that the player takes. sad to think that all those Lava Leviathans are just going to starve to death down there.

I think the green luminescent bits at the back were ship bays where people could fly out of. It seems like a good position, and you see a decent bit of forcefeild things in docking bays in scifi.

One thing I found lacking ingame was the ability to clean up or harvest the wrecks scattered about, atleast the parts without interiors.. think about it, we can gather scrap metal pieces.. when we get a laser cutter and eventually the PRAWN suit w/ drill arm, why can't we strip apart larger wrecks for scrap metal and maybe other materials?
Just bugs me it wasn't implemented.. Great vid dude, keep it up! :D

Gaël Spalt it’s something about it being against alterra law I think it’s in the metal salvage PDA it says that you can use metal that fell off but not directly salvage the ship which I think extends to the wrecks

Perhaps a more disturbing thing to point out, nobody seems to mention the discoloration of the water in the Crash Zone seems to have a noticeable red to orange tint. And when you think about it, between the compromised starboard side lifepods, the oversized crew, some of the port side lifepods not having two occupants, and the PDA message when reaching the upper Aurora entrance stating “Caution: scans show the digestive tracts of nearby lifeforms contain human tissues.", you can get an idea of why the Crash Zone water has the hue it does.
That’s certainly an unpleasant thought :)

1:21 the funny thing is, after playing subnautica for so long (and seeing the massive ship crashed in the water) I kinda forgot it was a spaceship, and thought of it more as some massive cruise ship that crashed on an alien planet (idk)
To be fair it does kinda look like a cruise ship :D
I actually wish we could go further into the ship. Like (if there is one) a hanger bay, the bridge, life support, more crew quarters and facilities (galleys, cinema ect) becuase with that much ship we had very small access to.
That would admittedly still a fairly small portion of the ships interior, however it appears that most of the ships interior is for the reactor and drive systems and utilities.

Now this may seem off topic, but what if they released subnautica themed underwater R.C boats like the seamoth or the cyclops or the seatruck in real life. That would be very fun.

It is possible that in the hull failure, many of the port side lifepods were also compromised. If the blast was able to completely destroy all of the starboard side life pods in one go, I'd say that about half of the port side lifepods would also be damaged, become entangled, or get destroyed on other debris from the ship's disintegrating hull.
I guess that's the only explanation that doesn't involve botched safety procedures :)

Honestly I don’t think it could be the cyclops bay because first of all it’s on the top of the ship and the ship is pretty tall and second of all cyclops is only meant for water as its description is “a vast industrial submarine” it doesn’t say that it’s used for Sea and space like the seamouth or the prawn suit

I have a theory
The aurora wasn't shot down by the alien gun
When your loading the game you can see the aurora crashing down when it's not even close to the gun which could means that something else happened to the aurora that we don't know
I guess that's not impossible :) But what else do you think could've happened to it.

Warning controlled crash beginning meanwhile abandon ship starts oh so that's why no one made it out the burns were to severe and soon as they went into the water and died cause off what's it called

In the original plot for the aurora there was to be an underwater isle that you could move some debris away and swim down a rusty algae covered hallway where you could find a joke “Therapy” room where there were machines with TVs in front of them where Riley could interact with them the joke was that the machine asked what is Riley’s favourite colour and when he replies blue it would say “blue is like the vast oceans of earth” and Riley would punch and break the machine, you would also find the cinema, not to much there, but you were supposed to find the prawn suit mark 3 “which was considered to be very new and just recently functioning” so Riley would have to shove a computer chip into his neck so that he could be compatible with the suit, in general I wish they kept this because it adds a lot to Riley’s character and what he’s willing to do to survive.

If you have watched the Netflix Lost In Space, you will get this reference, what did the Resolute look like before it was attacked? What dis it look like busy with people? just a thought tho.

that pillot of the aurora is skilled af. he literally landed a 1.2 kilometer long ship on a 2km x 2km volcano. if he would have tried to save himself instead of getting the perfect landing spot. they would have landed in the void.

i have a idea when after the credits theres a 1 minute cutscene where you are back on earth and while sleeping the kharaa gets ahold of you while sleeping and as you slowly pass away the game plays a dream of the aurora docked and the boarding passengers for its deep space trip. and you have memories of seeing a green laser beam from the precursor gun slowly approaches the ship. the alarms sound and it hits the bottom of the ship and destroys the aurora and you see yourself hopping into the lifepod and the dream slowly starts to fade giving leaks to the aurora and what the dock looked like.
Would be quite the unfortunate ending :)

about those luminescent green parts, i have theorized myself that means the ship was not built but fabricated, as the knife has the same same thing so does the life pods, and other things that are fabricated have similar glowing parts
I suppose it's possible :) I'd probably imagine the ship was made by a larger version of the mini-bots that craft your vehicles.

The lifepods have manual launching systems the opening scene shows that. So the only lifepods that were Launched were the ones activated by the crew

So the explosion in the opening scene means that not many made it
During my first playthrough in survival, I was unaware that I was supposed to, let alone could, repair the drive core to stop the radiation leak, meaning I could take off the radiation suit. So I spent like, three days of total time being without any other suit, and being unable to use the Rebreather, so I’d constantly be going back and fourth to my Seamoth, making suicide dives to really deep depths, and only barely making it back to my Seamoth.
Ouf :) sounds like a rough time - but hey, it's moments like those that make the game memorable!

For some reason I think that the other lifepods that were 'missing' aka not in the map may have landed in the void or maybe has successfully deployed, but it has been swollen by some sort of creature..
And sometimes I think that the lifepods did launch successfuly and the crew lived their life's, but soon died by the kharaa bacterium. I kinda made this theory because in the intro our character was hitted by the metal thing and then passed out and probably wake up after a few weeks.
My other theory about the Aurora is that.. The top thing that you said that maybe is used to launch some sort of vechile could be a cyclops.
And I noticed that the Aurora brings submersible stuff that is related to water transport for some reason? It could probably be 2 different reasons, 1 maybe because of their secret mission aka saving the degasi crew. Or maybe because the Aurora ship was designed to be a Capital ship made for water landing purposes.
Well.. Who knows? :P
