Just played one... hands down one of the best stats I have ever played! The neck and pickups are incredible! They need to find away to make great guitars not $2000 so 17 year olds like myself can afford it!
Just found one barely played for $1100. I wasn't planning on buying another Strat (I sold FSR Roasted, EOB, and Kotzen Strats in the 2 years) but this just might be 'the one'. My finger clicked the Reverb 'buy' button before I could stop it.
You never give me your moneeeey, you only give me your fuuuunnnyyy paper.... My god, great rendition of one of the best Beatles songs out there! Also, amazing review and awesome axe!
Don't cut yourself short John, you are also a great guitar player. Love this EJ model personally wished it wasn't so yellow. Love hollow body guitars as well. Sounds great!
I am sold on this guitar. You did a great job of selling it to me with your playing which just nailed the built-in inherent tones of this guitar. Great job man.
Awesome playing and tone John- it's just not fair! You should be interviewing you and rig rundown your own rigs! Sheesh you're talented and have great tone!
I think I may have finally found a strat I actually like the sound of! It would be pretty sweet to see one of these with that fancy Radiohead guy's sustainer in it...
John, great hair man! Wonderful playing, weird-looking strat. This at least looks better than the PRS John Mayer Silver Strat nightmare! At least Fender has the class to incorporate two of its own designs. Cheers!
Great review as always... Why all the guitar makers keep making on the guitars these F holes that are for violins, cellos and that kind of instruments? If it is really required a hole, why not adopt a more actual shape?
I love the thing that happens with Thinlines: When you're up loud enough that the air gets pushed out of the "F" hole and tickles the hairs on your arm as the body resonates. (Checks strings on Thinline Tele for use tonight)
I saw this sign in a guitar shop once that said: "I had a terrible nightmare. I died and my wife sold all my guitars for what I TOLD HER THEY WERE WORTH."
Sounds amazing. You're setup is great. Amp sounds great. I would venture to say that may be the best Stratocaster I've ever heard. I play hollowbody guitars pretty much exclusively. I've always found hollowbody Stratocasters and les Pauls just not ok, hahaha. But this is Awesome, love it. Awesome video. Thanks
Great video, man I've been wondering about the tone, sounds great, back problems of playing too many heavy Gibsons & Fenders makes this appealing. I love the color, almost as dark as my 73 Olympic White, & John you are spot on, when I opened that case & that cigarette smell hit me, the vibe, the way the color faded to that cool yellow I was in love. Always wondered if the chambered body could have the tone & this does. I refret all my guitars with med tall or me jumbo, you just pick up these tweaks in Texas. Awesome video Premier & John. Hope everyone is catching Eric's tour. Cheers.
I wonder if Fender is EVER going to upgrade that tremolo? Not a fan, with its tuning issues and hand scratching screws. Other than that, this seems like a really badass Strat.
God, I love Fender. You always make the best demos, thanks a lot. haha although, Id be playing a lot more if I wasn't always obsessing over gear due to the interweb. But good lord how much better this sounds than the prs. sheeesh.
Nice playing as always John and I am a big Eric Johnson fan. But I am not loving the sound of this hollow body stratocaster - it doesn't sound as resonant to me though he neck sounds good. Makes me think you need more of the ES 335 shape to get the hollow body sound right. By the way, congrats on sporting the natural gray look - bound to happen eventually.
has bolinger got anything recorded? this is the first video i've come across where he really is showing his true skills, didn't realize he could do this stuff.
great playing!!!!!!!! great guitar!!! btw did you take out some springs on the back to float the trem...? knowing the EJ strats are normally pretty tightly decked , what was your setup here?
You're fond of "Lenny" John! Greetings to you from Ireland. I always enjoy your reviews, and this one is no exception. A very cool looking and sounding strat. I was never a fan of the string trees, and I don't know why Fender don't have all their strat's with the staggered machine heads.
I always thought that the turning from white to a yellow color was due to a reaction to light. Of course smokey bars would certainly add to the color change.
Right Bohly, why not 22 frets? WHY, Eric? 22 is the perfect number on a Strat if you're a working musician. But the tone and look are just, simply beautiful...My goodness....veeery nice axe.
What’s up with the 9 thumbs down? And this particular strat is not comparable to the new PRS strat rip off that was made because JP got pissed of at Fender. I still can’t believe PRS would make a strat knock off
You're an even better player than I thought John. BTW, no offense to the other P.G. interviewers but you should do ALL of the rig rundowns!!! I hate to sound mean but you just have more personality than them. Bottomline, I only watch your rig rundowns. Anyway, keep up the good work bro!
Can anybody tell me what is the spec of this maple neck paint? Is it called the glossy polyurethane and which other strats have the same kind of neck? Too bad online specs usually don't specify the exact finish details cos this is my favorite.
I'd like to know how the hollow part is achieved. Is there a thin top that covers the entire face of the body? I doubt it, would be super-complicated, especially with the armrest-part where the body is thinner. So, maybe they just rout that space out sideways from the PU cavity and plug that up somehow? Or is it hollowed out from the back of the guitar?
I'm wondering if you're playing the exact same licks as the silver sky video on purpose? Or are those just your test licks for those positions on a strat?
Rode video mic pro? But too much space with johns voice. Killin it John with intro song - drum machine groove was a bit jarring in transition but i cant hate The Drum Machine
I doubt it makes a huge difference. The wood that's "missing" here would be the size of a thin book. Remember, Strats already have a big PU cavity, so the additional hollow part is just a small compartment on top of that.
Great guitar. Really disappointed that Eric would opt for form over function (e.g. going with a vintage LOOKING neck and not have the effen TRUSS ROD ADJUSTMENT screw in a place where you can easily get to it. For traveling guitarists it's a bloody nightmare if you have to take the neck off to do that. Also, as you said, 21 frets? Sorry another bad choice.
Sounding great John - Thanks for taking it for a spin!
Fender John the Grey.
Love it. Let's do more.
Fender I love your guitars, could you please make scalloped fretboard an option in the custom shop?
The colour on this Strat is just WOW
Loved it. Let's do more.
It makes the Strat sound a lot more jazzy. Very nice!
Just played one... hands down one of the best stats I have ever played! The neck and pickups are incredible! They need to find away to make great guitars not $2000 so 17 year olds like myself can afford it!

Daphne Blue and Surf Green would look great with that neck!
oh dear lord a Daphne blue hollow body strat is my dream fiddle,I'd kill for such an instrument.
oakes family Daphne Blue is such an awesome finish and you have a dream axe that I can get behind a hundred percent!
This guy is my favorite Rig Rundown interviewer. Always has a smile on his face and super chill. We all become kids again when it comes to guitars!
Been looking forward to a proper Bohlinger run through of this new EJ. You guys are the best.
Love Bohlinger's attitude!!! "DRUM MACHINE!" Great review. Keep 'em coming.
I like John, but I find that SO ANNOYING, hahaha...... :'(
That was so cool when he did that! Got my attention
Sounds great!
you're not just a dude, you are a solid dude with a great sense of humor
Had no clue that was J.B until he screamed "Drum Machine!"
Looking & sounding good John, loved that Beatles rendition.
I sometimes wonder if most the people you interview know you can kick their ass on guitar. Great video!
Fender make a John Bohlinger strat
Mark B yes please. 🙏
I am sold on this guitar. You did a great job of selling it to me with your playing which just nailed the built-in inherent tones of this guitar. Great job man.
"Nicotine White"... that would be nice name for this color :)
Nicotine white because it looks like it used to be white but through years of smokey bar gigs it turned that color
EJ strats are truly unique. Lil bit vintage with a little bit modern. Perfect. Profile pic is my black EJ
Your 65 Strat has such warm tones. I love that Strat sound.
Nice to see you got that amp out of the corner! Seems like it just got used as an end table
Awesome playing and tone John- it's just not fair! You should be interviewing you and rig rundown your own rigs! Sheesh you're talented and have great tone!
Damn ,knows his way around a guitar and what a guitar ,$2,000 aye? hell I'm 72 so I'll probably outlive my money anyway ';o/
I have four EJ strats and i pulled all the Bridge Blocks out and replaced with a Callaham Block.... WAY more sustain and less play in the arm..
I have never before realized how much Prince looked like Sister Rosetta Tharpe!
Ha ha. That's who I thought it was at 1st too.!
I love the thing that happens with Thinlines: When you're up loud enough that the air gets pushed out of the "F" hole and tickles the hairs on your arm as the body resonates.
(Checks strings on Thinline Tele for use tonight)
I’ve played one last week and loved it. Very lightweight and resonant guitar. The color is very similar to Yngwie’s signature strat.
That stratocaster sounds like a dream
Sounds like an amazing Strat, I’m guessing less expensive than Mayer’s PRS. If I wasn’t afraid of my wife, I’d love one!
I saw this sign in a guitar shop once that said: "I had a terrible nightmare. I died and my wife sold all my guitars for what I TOLD HER THEY WERE WORTH."
Someone should make a video with all John's excerpts of "Lenny" back to back. It would be awesome, and very long.
Thanks
ValveTrain Amps!
John is a heck of a tasty guitar player.
I can't stop watching the F hole...love it!!!
Great review! Can't wait for EJ's Rig Rundown, talk about time travel, revisiting the Ah Via Musicom record including the Rig, Tone Geek Meister!!
Great song and playing for this guitar.
gorgeous playing and tone regardless of guitar. well done
I didn't know you could play that quite and calm! LOL :)
Great video, man I've been wondering about the tone, sounds great, back problems of playing too many heavy Gibsons & Fenders makes this appealing. Man I do like this strat
God, I love Fender. You always make the best demos, thanks a lot. haha although, Id be playing a lot more if I wasn't always obsessing over gear due to the interweb. But good lord how much better this sounds than the prs. sheeesh.

has bolinger got anything recorded?
this is the first video i've come across where he really is showing his true skills, didn't realize he could do this stuff.
Great playing and the guitar sounds and looks fantastic.
Sweet!! Eric Johnson Rig Rundown coming up too, hell yeah!
Really enjoying all of John's reviews. Throw a mic on though!! Tough to hear!
great playing!!!!!!!! great guitar!!!
btw did you take out some springs on the back to float the trem...?
knowing the EJ strats are normally pretty tightly decked , what was your setup here?
People are complaining about the cost of the JM silver sky but this costs only $300 less
You're fond of "Lenny" John! Greetings to you from Ireland. I always enjoy your reviews, and this one is no exception. A very cool looking and sounding strat. I was never a fan of the string trees, and I don't know why Fender don't have all their strat's with the staggered machine heads.

Love me that Johnny B!!! His chops are so cool!!
Did someone just submit to the Richard Gere grey hair dye? Looking very distinguished!
You can, even with RUclips hear that little bit of air around the notes. Subtle but there.
Yep! I noticed it as well. Very delicate but noticeable tone. Beautiful!
Wow! Haven't seen you in a long time John, and truly didn't recognize you with your new do. Great playing as always, and love the EJ Strat!
You're a new man with this great hair do..Better looking Harry Hamlin.Great playing man.
I find the middle pickup is great with a fuzz pedal.
Awesome John! Was that Trenton in raw mode or black face mode?
Right Bohly, why not 22 frets? WHY, Eric? 22 is the perfect number on a Strat if you're a working musician. But the tone and look are just, simply beautiful...My goodness....veeery nice axe.
I'm not the biggest fan of strats, I'm much more or a Les Paul player but this one is gorgeous.
At 12:02 that sounded like riviera paradise not Lenny. Beautiful tone.
Man, what a job do you have!!
you know.... the grey mullet would look pretty rad...
Oh my!! Just sweet as pecan pie!! I need to get my hands on one!
fender and prs are doing the jobs from each other right now
whats the name of that first song/lick? super cool demo, always look forward to your demoes John
"You Never Give Me Your Money", The Beatles
thanks!
What’s up with the 9 thumbs down?
And this particular strat is not comparable to the new PRS strat rip off that was made because JP got pissed of at Fender. I still can’t believe PRS would make a strat knock off
i cant wait for the Rig Rundown of Eric....
Well played sir👍
Is he playing tune from abbey road? Sounds stunnin
Yes, You never give me your Money.
I’m guessing EJ sticks with 21 frets because that’s what’s on his ‘57.
You're an even better player than I thought John. BTW, no offense to the other P.G. interviewers but you should do ALL of the rig rundowns!!! I hate to sound mean but you just have more personality than them. Bottomline, I only watch your rig rundowns. Anyway, keep up the good work bro!
Do you prefer this guitar to the PRs silver sky ?
3:02 John Bohlinger or Chris Keys? I'm confused.
Can anybody tell me what is the spec of this maple neck paint? Is it called the glossy polyurethane and which other strats have the same kind of neck? Too bad online specs usually don't specify the exact finish details cos this is my favorite.
cant help but notice ..wtf do u have lights on for when its the day time and the suns out...think about that for a moment
As far as I know it´s hollowed out from the back. At least it´s done that way on my Thinline 72 Telly.
I'm wondering if you're playing the exact same licks as the silver sky video on purpose? Or are those just your test licks for those positions on a strat?
If you need to pickup one what you will choose this or the PRS mayer strat?
Rode video mic pro? But too much space with johns voice. Killin it John with intro song - drum machine groove was a bit jarring in transition but i cant hate The Drum Machine
I like this better than the JM PRS Strat. The weight has to great with body being semi-hollow.
I doubt it makes a huge difference. The wood that's "missing" here would be the size of a thin book. Remember, Strats already have a big PU cavity, so the additional hollow part is just a small compartment on top of that.
That yellow reminds me of tele's, Tele was this color ,strats were sunburst ,jazz master sunburst ,Tele was a pale blond under the top coat
Thats one cool looking guitar:)! How much do they go for??
Awesome video!
About $2k
How bad is the single coil hum?
What's the song in 0:24??? Cuz it sounds like an Eurobeat tune from Initial D lul
Damn damn damn damn. Me want this!
Cliffs of Dover is half Strat half ES-335, actually.
It looks way better than the JM -PRS I just hate the PRS NECK on the Strat Body it just dont Work sorry
Another $2000 guitar I want and can’t afford. Bring on the squire thin line 😊
Sorry another bad choice.
now that's a real strat
Amazing Strat love it....make mine sonic blue please
Where can I get that pillow?
A Great Golden Slumber. I must borrow.
cole clark hollow baby?
Reverb drenched madness!
1:55 hitting the sweet spot
John. What did you do to your hair, man. I’m still jealous, haha.
Mike’s Guitars and Vehicles I renounced hair dye on my last birthday.
john bohlinger Never knew, brother. Hell, I thought you might have did that platinum blue thing all the cool kids are doing. 😂😂
Carry that weight from Abbey Road. I have not heard it for donkeys
years. Great musicality on an interesting Stratocaster.
What was that f chord at like 104
DIG IT!
