My new gecko is like a hamster 😳 I was shook 😂 You hear how cresties don’t like to be handled and they will be fast, skittish, jumpy if you hold them. He comes when called! Just have to tut him over and somtimes he waits by the door to come out for handling of his own free will. Often looking for any Pangea or just a quick explore. He’s in a 60x45x60 Exo but plan to upgrade sometime in the next year to a 100x60x60. Fully live planted, heat, UV, etc already but he’s just so stupidly interactive. Well buzzing, was set for him to ignore me 😂

My two are very happy to be handled. 10 minutes a day chilling on my hand is all they need. Shouldn't handle them too much so 10-15 minutes is plenty

@@fallingnutria5646 I love to observe consenting behaviours, letting the animal pick what to do. All the handling I do with him is his own choice for as long as he chooses 😄 usually does get bored of me within half an hour ngl 😂

Same thing with my leopard gecko, comes waddling to the doors when I go over to his terrarium

@@jadesjungle mine are very food orientated. They know food time before it happens and theyre usually waiting for me to slide open the terrarium doors 😂 i had to start dishing up the worms then putting them in otherwise they wouldn't even let me put the feeding dish down

You really do love that enclosure. I do too, Rich! You did a wonderful habitat. I'm sure a person can tell if their animal is happy as long as they pay attention to how they act and react to stimuli. If there is one person I know who does this a lot, it is you. We are all never perfect at it but we do our best. For instance, our cresties react differently towards certain things. Lizzie loves her foliage to be like vines so she can climb about on them. Rascal likes her plants creating a cave for her to hide away and relax. The same for you knowing what is going on with how each animal is for their species and personalities. BTW HI again. I know I've been away again. I did buy those pictures on Ebay that you had for cell phones. I was your first customer for it, actually. They are gorgeous images. I must watch your episode on taking good pictures. Anyway, have fun, take care and say hi to your little savior for me, please. And give him a huge hug too.

The AHH/BHS Conference in March 2022 has a speaker, Dr Kristy Nichols, who will be giving a presentation on reptile “mental health” and I’m super looking forward to it!
Lots of zookeepers and reptile specialists from the scientific community will be there. And tickets are discounted for BHS members! Are you going? :)
And as for the Beardies UV, you’re right that modern techniques are to use the “sunbeam method” which has a zone approx 30-40% of the enclosure as your basking area. And Dr. Jonathon Howard (research veterinarian) has conducted recent research that seems to suggest that wild dragons prefer a UVI of 4.0-4.5. So most modern techniques have a basking zone of around UVI 4 with a gradient down to UVI 0.

Love this Rich! Smashin it mate! 👊💯🔥
Wondering why your leo could be more reserved? I mean they're solitary creatures anyway. Will have a ponder and get back to you on that one! Your setups are looking cool 😎 👍

There not a solitary animal. They live in a matrearcle group in the wild with alpha males and matriarch females. We keep them solitary because if there is a dispute its normally a dispute for dominance leading to one being killed
