Kuwait - Al Zour

Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) launched a mega project by building one of the largest oil refining plants in the world. The Al-Zour Refinery will produce an impressive 615,000 barrels per day and has a strategic goal of supplying low-sulphur fuel. The refinery will be constructed on land reclaimed by Van Oord in a ‘sabkha area’, a salt plain near the coast, 30 kilometres north of the Saudi border. The reclamation project being executed by Van Oord is the first phase of KNPC’s USD 23 billion investment programme for this new refinery.
