- This is probably the cheapest and best weed killer I've found. Trying every homemade weed killer I could test and this one works perfectly. The cost is incredibly low per treatment and the results can last for the entire growing season.

Dilute it in vinegar.
It works better and the salt will dissolve faster.
I have to say that I had used your recipe for fertilizing my garden plants the yeast and sugar let me just say incredible! Truly thank you. I’m going to try this recipe for my driveway.
Oh WOW! I'm excited about this. I've used the garden vinegar, but those weeds come back before the season is over. Can't wait to try this. If it works all summer you will be my favorite hero this year.
If a cup (8 ounces) of 75% vinegar is added to a gallon (128 ounces) of water the resulting solution will be 4.6875% vinegar. Regular pickling vinegar (white or cider) is a 5% acetic acid solution. An acetic acid solution produced with 4 ounces of 75% vinegar in 1 gallon of water is 2.34375% acetic acid.
A little bit weak for killing weeds don't you think? I'm using 30% acidic vinegar straight out of the bottle with epson salt and dawn. Within 30 minutes it fries most weeds. Not having too good results on ivy but the ivy is reacting to the vinegar. It just hasn't died.
I like your long videos. Your voice is very calming! Thank you for sharing so much of your knowledge.
Great idea. I was using ice melt but if pool salt does the trick and it's cheaper I'm getting that for sure!
If you put down black poly or used lumber tarp down before spreading your gravel, it will greatly reduce weed growth and extend the life of the gravel. The gravel won't mix with the clay or silt soil. Pathways, driveways and dry landscaping.
So i imagine you don’t use that mix anywhere your wanting growth, i say because of the salt use.
Yeah, and be careful spraying anywhere near inground beds as it can leach into them.
I actually just use 20% White vinegar as a weed killer and it works well.
The salt based one would work for much longer of course. Cheers!
lol. might as well use high concentration copper, like councils do.
even high concentrations of iron work as weedkiller, but break down to harmless derivatives, unlike pool salt.
Yes, but how expensive are those metals you suggest compared to this? I will only use it where I want not growth anyway.
@@DawnaRo : the real answer is that people make it easy for weeding and weed regularly, which is not possible with gravel already there. copper is not expensive but you also need to be careful not to use in too high concentration or too regularly, especially if anywhere near water ways. another alternative is a weed burner, which is like a mini flame thrower, just not so drastic. it's an initial outlay and regular burning of the weeds is required. there is no one treatment that makes weeds go away forever. pool salt is one of the worst chemicals to do the job. but you do you.
MANY MANY THUMBS UP ❤ THANK YOU FOR HELPING US TO SAVE THE EARTH 🌎
Thank You for posting this! My sprayer seems to always clog up with the salt, but I was using epsom salt and table salt...
Be sure to triple rinse after each salt exposure. Cheers
This is how the Romans destroyed the Carthaginians; they salted all the fields in Carthage so that nothing would grow there, essentially winding up starving the people of Carthage out of existence. The more salt you use, the longer it will take for the dirt to be able to support plant life to grow there again.
Waiting for salt to dissolve for days? Dissolve any salt by pouring boiling water onto it. Make up in a big stainless steel pan, let it cool a bit and mix w vinegar and whatever. Electric kettle.
Works great for about 2 weeks.
Saltwater will kill off all vegetation alone. That's what my school used ti spray the track with. And when the oil companies spilled the Saltwater from the tanks it killed everything in our fields and it didn't grow back for 30 years
I use a small amt of salt from the well water softener salt to the dirt around the weed where the roots are then water the salt. Works great ! Ty for the info!
Awesome! Great information. What microphone are you using? It works great for videos like this.
Designate a separate watering can or sprayer specifically for this weed killer and nothing else!
10 minutes or so videos get much more views and are usually watched to the end.
My wife said same exact thing. It’s tough to get it just right. Cheers.
Interesting videos get views. A lot of RUclips videos are 2+ hours of dialogue and they are watched daily. I watched this to the end. :)
I have made 1/4 gravel paths around my property (added fines made it a great growing medium though). I picture this salt application as an answer to a prayer for keeping the paths from simply turning into garden base! the amount of work it takes to control the weeds each year will hopefully be a thing of the past! Thanks for the break down of what to use and how to do it! I do have trouble following your discussion and have to listen a couple three times when having brain issues... Your chit chatty way and monotone might be the issue as it sort of puts my inquisitive mind to sleep! lol still priceless info! Thx!
When you told us how inexpensive it is, you forgot to tell us that the vinegar is something like $20 per gallon! Still, this is a lot better than using some chemical that causes cancer, but is somehow still allowed on the market.
you can cleaning vinegar at dollar general for like $1.50 and its percentage is way up there like the ones mentioned, you can also use regular vinegar
@@tankdarla637 It depends on where you live. In New Jersey where I used to live, regular vinegar worked pretty well. Here in Idaho, the weeds just laugh at you and keep growing. You need at least 30% here.
Exactly the info I needed at this time.
On another note, gosh, makes the pool way less inviting
Rock salt also works great by its self with out water
Any Chance you could write up the recipe and post it to this Video?
Salt builds up in ground water and when it rains will come up and kill roots. Or if you use a well or pump up ground water then it will also kill plants just like it does when farmers pump up ground water.
the soap is to is help the oil emulsion process happen.
I love your videos! I learn so much! Would this kill poison ivy by any chance ? My husband is so allergic to it and it would be nice if we could get rid of it! He ends up in the ER! Thanks for all you teach us!! ❤❤❤
Spray it with 30% vinegar. Use gloves and don’t breathe it. I buy it from Walmart for $18 for a gallon.
Hi! You mention in the title that this is safe for pets, but don't mention this in the video. Our back yard is gravel and my little dog is back there every day. Is the salt and vinegar really safe for her to walk on right away, or is there a waiting period? Thank you so much for sharing!
Any salt will do
Not quite sure why would you use a 75% vinegar if it will end up being diluted in water anyway? Can you please explain. Thanks
Threm X-70 is a plant saponin from yucca id use that instead of soap
What will this do to my trees? I have a lot of ivy i would like to get rid of, but it's on some nice trees.
sometimes i use cooking oil as a sticker instead of soap and it also works great as a visual because you can see the oily sheen where you have already sprayed, if i use dish soap i only use a few drops for a whole backpack sprayer, because it takes very little to stick and things can get foamy with a lot of soap, i use round up in flower beds because it does not contaminate soil, also round up is totally safe for weed control, just ridiculously expensive now because bs lawsuits.
Where round up (glyphosate) MIGHT be dangerous is where it's used to soak crops of food in higher concentrates, and that is also why glyphosate is found in everything , lawyers and monsanto are evil
Thanks for the info
Do you know of this mixture will kill Virginia Buttonweed or milkweed? Thanks for this video!!
He's changed the measurements from 1 c to half..I guess that's salt. And the vinegar from 1/4 c to 3 or 4 oz.
The vinegar I think? He was saying 1/4 cup 45% and then when he ended up using the 75% he used less.
Yes he did - he started at 1/2 cup Pool Salt and when he mixed it he said he used about 1 cup - the Vinegar sort of made sense since he flipped from 45% to the 75% Vinegar Concentrate. I also heard 3 to 4 oz of Dawn/J&J Shampoo. He did indicate he varied the amount of salt and vinegar based upon how hardy the plant was he was trying to kill giving Poison Ivy as an example. I think those are pretty good guidelines for the mix.
Do you have any suggestions for weeds growing in the Rose beds? I pull them out and they come right back.
I usually put a 4-6 layer of finely ground pine bark around my roses. Happy gardening
Is this safe to spray around trees?
Can you paint it on to kill weeds and not cause harm to the soil.
Yes thats a great idea, it may kill the leaves but some weeds have strong roots and will just grow more leaves. If your weeds have big roots you can cut at them with a trowel or use a drill that you don't mind dulling.
Can you use citric acid for boosted effect, or does it have to be vinegar?
Not much use in the UK can you use road salt or just Salt
Will this affect my ground water?
Highly doubted unless you’re using tons of it. Florida has massive salt near some of the purist springs on earth.
Yes it absolutely will. Farmers have this problem with pumping up ground water and with less water concentrates the salt. Vinegar is better for the environment and will dilute out with rain and the acid neutralizes.
@@ZenGardenOasis. St Augustine grass and Tropicals thrive beachside!
also all you have to do is get the weeds wet, you do not have to soak them, so you are not putting very much salt in the soil at all
@@ZenGardenOasis.Absolutely nothing scientific about that answer. Nothing zen either.
THANK YOU ❤
[how much salt in grams? different grain size weigh different. Thanks]
Yes, weight is more accurate than volume all round - albeit most especially for dried ingredients of varying densities etc 😊
He didn’t tell all details because had some liquid in the spray can .
😊I saw clorex and wanted 2 run
Do u spray plant or at ground?
Thank you!!
No worries!
I have tall Fir trees next to my gravel driveway. Will it kill the trees?
[I have the same question. I went to an avocado and orange orchard in southern california, it is on a hillside of decomposed granite, they have this big pump house/shed with a giant reverse osmosis system where they run their irrigation/well water through to get the salt out.
I'm nervous to use it because of my trees but in the video the guys yard looked good with the big trees. ]
Salting your land is never a good idea.
No where near any plant life that the salt to easily wash off to or penetrate the land. Stands to reason…
Can this be used for asparagus
Will it kill MINT? terrible weed.
thanks for the video ....
You're welcome
In the beginning of the video, you recommend 1/2 cup of salt per gallon. Then for the demo you mixed a cup of salt. Reason?
Check out th salts.
The measurement for the salt depends on which salt you use.
He states this.
@@pln8503 Thanks. I missed that some how.
Will this work on bind weed?
Will it kill weeds in the lawn?
Right along with your grass.
Will your weed killer work on bananna palms?
There’s very few things that can grow in salt. I would think so….
Can you use epsom salt instead of the pool salt? I ended up with a lot of it leftover from a different project.
I believe a large quantity would work but the pool salt is best. Price was below $8 for me. Remember that Eason salt isn’t true salt.
Thank you, @zengardenoasis! Just found your channel and love the format. I agree with some of the other comments about the long format videos. I like your style
Epsom salt is magnesium. If you put a small amount of it diluted in water, your plants will love it! :)
I clicked on the link that you have for the pool salt but you say in the video it’s 7 to 8 dollars the link is for $20
Go to your local hardware store it’s $8. Storage and shipping increases the price. Also be sure to price shop, I found lots of price variation. Cheers
Wouldn't Epsom salt work?
Not for a weed killer, but is good fertilizer. Epsom salt is Magnesium Sulfate and is good for plants
guy pours in like 2 cups of vinegar and said 3 or 4 oz.
Senior moments….😂
🤔👏🏻👍🙏
I don't like videos that force me to listen to a man say formula, formula, formula.... absolutely safe and ingredients... but never state the ingredient till we listen to your gravel walk ways. Thanks for this long introduction to the igredie... bye
