Muhammad Ali is more than hero. Many people's loves him. Christians, Muslims, Black race or white people. they welcome him everywhere he goes. they show him loves. he was welcomed like a great leader of a country. Rest in peace the Greatest ALI
@MUFC and yet not a single soccer player will ever be cherished by people from all walks of life, people of all the colors/castes/religions/ethnicities all around the globe like Ali. It's not only his boxing career that makes him the GOAT but mostly his it's his work outside of his profession that made him gain such a huge respect. Even the kings and queens and Presidents listened to him when he spoke
@MUFC Muhammad Ali wasn't just an athlete, he was greater than any sports, including soccer and boxing. Boxing was only the talent that God gave Ali to be able to reach the point of greatest world exposure to develop that great influence with the world.
I never see an athlete being welcomed like this in other country or in any country except this man. Even today with technology, internet, and everything. No popular athelete is recognized the way he was. I never feel his popularity until my parent told me his story, but had I lived in those times, I would agree that he was the biggest and the most famous man on earth.
It takes more thn just winning and it takes more thn what you do in the ring to be called the GREATEST OF ALL TIME..this is why he is the GOAT...loved by many all around the world ..known all around the world..I wouldn't see any boxer now to have something special like Ali
Look how easy-going, how humble he was. He did not mind reporters came very close to him..even the microphones almost touch his daughter's face. He is one in a million boxing champion!
I will never forget I was 12 yrs old and we were standing at the roundabout on the John Reid road in South Shields and he came past in an open top bus and he leaned over and pointed at us and shouted " I Told you I would come"..
One of the biggest highlights of my life was being alive to witness this man's life and career. How well I remember him being disparaged by my adult relatives in the 60s after he changed his name and refused the draft. Even at my younger age I had listened to his reasons and thought, 'You know, he's got a valid point'. It took several years before people finally came around. Now he's a hero to be admired. When people refer to him as 'the greatest', they aren't just referring to his boxing.
RIP Muhammad Ali. I had the privilege & the good fortune to be at Newcastle Airport on that day and you shook my hand as you passed by. It’s a day I’ll never forget and have shared this memory with friend’s & my children. How the world today (2024) needs your voice, your courage and your humanity.
How great that you were there that day, it's obviously been on your mind since. I'm originally from the North East of England, but born after this event. I uploaded it as it was not on RUclips at the time, but is a great video for fans to comment on. Did Muhammad have time for his fans, how was he that day?
When Ali boxed we had no t. v In Srilanka, even radio was not with many. To listen to the fight commentary, we'd fight to get close. And generally swing punches too, and and sometimes hit one another. He was known in all corners of the island. His picture was every where. After every fight, new pictures were circulating. What an era. Never again Will the world see his likes again. We were lucky.
Tyrone : I was a big fan too. Some fights I heard on radio, but I was lucky enough to see most on television and some were actually shown as they happened, on Cinema screens. I'm sure I adored the champ as much as you all did ! Yes, those were great days, and we were very lucky to be alive then. Best wishes to you ! P.s. I hope none of you got hurt fighting each other at the radio commentary. Lol
For Muhammad Ali to support the people of the north east says a lot about him. He didn't need to this, yet to him if it made a difference to people's lives then he did it. Even today politicians ignore north east. RIP champ your were my sporting hero.
Muhammad Ali was quite prophetic that day in January 1978. He did in fact lose his next fight, against Leon Spinks, but 6 months later he beat Spinks, before retiring. Nice to see Ali in Britain again!
Woow , what reception this is , I mean it's like a hero , event a president don't have this kind of welcome in an airport , this guy is a legend . Rip Mohamed Ali , you will be always the greatest in our Hearth
Muhammad Ali was an inspiration as well as a handsome figure too. Coming to the north-east and uplifting our masses in Newcastle in-particular and my hero he will be missed

Ali was very smart. The journalist wanted to trap him by comparing his greatness to that of the Queen . He quickly noticed and gave a smart answer. Great personality Ali!!!!
That journalists that asked the silly questions , were just hoping that Ali slipped his tongue , claiming he was the greatest , and not the Queen. Well, that would be hell of stories on the front page of the next day news. But Ali was smart enough to smell that trap.
His courage never died. Won championship 3 times. Return was great. He was blessed boxer. No body is like him. Their is 2 era of boxing. 1 before Ali 2 After Ali.
Ali transcend boxing and sport. He was a remarkable man. Had his flaws for sure and may Allah swt forgive him. Ameen. He once saved a man who was on a ledge ready to jump. Ali was passing by and ran up, got up and convinced the man to come inside. Its on youtube. He was indeed a blessing from Allah swt.
So simple. A baby in the strong arm irrespective of the media and fans he is addressing is the mark of a simple human being. He is loved for his simplicity. The more he achieved the more he became simple...
