I haven't bought a new Pretenders album since the 1986 Get Close album so I'm going to get this one on vinyl and CD.

Cool! I have to give this a listen. I've been a fan since they first came out. I like that you have your guitar displayed, Brendon. I'm sure you will get some inquiries about that.

I’ve never been a big fan of the Pretenders. I remember them being big in the 80s but they just weren’t my cup of tea. I’ll have to give them a listen again. I felt the same way about INXS back in the day but after one of your vids I started picking up some of their albums and really like them now.

Hey Brendan.. I gotta be honest, I really love hearing you talk about music history and I feel your overall knowledge on rock bands is really valuable. I love learning about some of the nuanced things that shape bands and how they came to be as well as the start of the lead members. I have spent so much time myself, collecting music that sometimes I don't always know much about the history of bands in my collection even if I enjoy their music. Do you think you could do more videos or maybe even an occasional series on band history. It might also be an interesting way for you to pull out your CDs that pertain to specific bands and show them off while you tell the history. Just a thought, I know you cover a lot of info in all your videos but occasional history focused videos while talking about your albums could be really insightful. Thank you and I am really loving your content.

I love the song Porcelain off the EP that came after Pretenders II. I used to spin it at WUVT in the middle of the night all the time.

This album is less immediately accessible than Hate for Sale but ultimately might be a better in it's parts. It does have a melancholy undertone and I am curious if both writing the songs remotely as well as her time spent covering Dylan during pandemic may have contributed to the melancholia. That said, there is not a weak track on the album. The musicianship is stellar and of course so are the vocals. The cover art BTW is real street art an Irish street artist that she is a big fan of plus I believe chrissie does not want to appear on cover or videos if she can avoid it that folds into the tiny club tours they have embarked on, as she says "I am trying to shrink the band profile not grow it"...Back to the album, every track is strong, some great arrangements, I love how Merry Widow has the Zeppelin Kashmir psych out half way through. Walbourne is a great songwriting partner for her probably her best since Honeyman Scott. I think you are spot on that it's not for everyone but I feel like that was possibly intentional. It seems she is at the point where she truly only wants to follow her muse. The mid tempo ballads are great and have some great rock flourishes, but I agree with you back to back it can feel sleepy. I too would have liked one or two more "Vainglorious" or "Let The Sun Come" In type tracks to make the album a great listen, but then I am a throwback I like listening straight through and sequencing can make or break that....And of course, the voice at 70 to still sound that good and put out albums this strong, it's impressive. Her recent releases endow her catalogue and that's rare decades into a career.

Though I have yet to hear it for myself, Chrissie Hynde’s new solo album - sorry, the Pretenders latest release - has received uniformly positive reviews in the British music press. If I may briefly indulge….the three best Pretenders albums are….the eponymous debut (of course) in 1980; Learning To Crawl (1983) and Packed! (1990). The career spanning 4-CD box set ‘Pirate Radio’ which kind of went under the radar upon its release in 2004, is certainly worthy of further investigation.

I think my opinion is the same as yours about the balance of rockers vs. ballads and the peaks and valleys on the album. Anyway, my favorite songs are the first 3 songs along with the single Let The Sun Come In and the song Vainglorious. Of the Ballads, I Think About You Daily is probably the best one. It is at least the most beautifully sung ballad by Chrissie on the album. Another song on the album, I both dislike and like. The first half of the song Merry Widow I don't like but then when the 2nd half kicks in, it is wonderfully weird (no singing, but the music is both wonderful and weird and caught my interest, unlike the first half of the song.) Overall, I like the album, but felt it was off balance, even though it had a good mix of rockers and ballads, with one or two too many songs on the ballad side as opposed to the rocker side.

I think if the track listing was put in a different order the album may have come off better.

I jumped off the Pretenders wagon after Pretenders II; they have had decent songs since but not cohesive albums in my opinion.
