Even more interesting hybrid lift than The American Eagle is the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier Gletscherjet 3-4. First half is hybrid (Gletscherjet 3), but in the middle station the chairs go down to the first station while the gondolas continue to the peak of Kitzsteinhorn (Gletscherjet 4).
The same as the Auenfeldjet in Lech/Schröcken. But here the upper section is mixed and the Lower Section only has Gondolas and is only used as connection.
Copper's my home mountain. I would say the gondola side of American Eagle is most popular with people who just arrived and want to get up the mountain in a hurry. Once you have your skis or board on your feet the chair is the preferred option.
Samnaun (Ch) also has double decker cable car. In Zermatt, there is also train that connects Zermatt and one peak, Gorergrat - Gornergratt bahnn. Also, in Zermatt there is underground train/funicular that connects Zermatt and Sunnegga peak. Also, in Zermatt there is mix of gondola and chairs.
The sauna lift is pretty cool if it is just one single gondola, the hybrid system at the end is kinda needless though, quite a few chairlifts can have screens fitted to them to protect you from the elements if needed. Just seems like the queuing system for them would lead to quite a few empty seats, that would grate on people quickly!
The way they use the hybrid system in Austria is very usefull. Skiers can take the chairs without taking of their skies and walk, where ski classes of little children can stay together and take a single gondola. This way the teacher doesn't have to 'hand out' children one by one to other people at the chairlift. The lines for chairs and gondolas are separated.
There is another benefit: people without skis! On some mountains you want to go winter walking, or sledding/luge (rodeln). It would be way easyer to go inside a gondola if you are not wearing any skis, or especially if you have a sledge, that thing doesn't fit on a chair. Also kids are sometimes too small to sit down on the chairlift normally, and parents need to pick them up onto the chair. They can slide off, it's just not a good experience. Thus, the hybrid is really good. Hybrids are used in places where a traditional chairlift would be the option to choose, but either a lot of people on foot or ski klasses can use them, and also hadicapped people can use them easyer... Well it makes sense to do so in certain situations, where I live in Austria they recently built one. The lift always had to slow down almost to no speed at all if someone without ski's wanted to go up, which is bad. It was an old chairlift with a belt as opposed to the chair slowing down. Having said that they are really usefull EDIT: I know of 2 lifts in my area that are hybrid, both in really usefull places!
Nice bunch of lifts, but the explanation is not always correct: - First Rotair was not in Engelberg but in Cape Town on the Table Mountain. - Peak 2 Peak is not based on a lift in Zermatt but on the lift '3S' in Kitzbuhel of which it is nearly an exact copy. - The Cabrio in Tignes was not the first one. The first one of this kind was on the Standerhorn in Switserland.
At least two of them, both quite new, are installed in Russia. One in Sochi (serving the Alpika sector of Gazprom resort) and another in Kirovsk (serving the north sector of Bolshoi Vud"yavr resort).
Great video although their are many more combination lifts. Not far from Copper mountain their is another one in Colorado at bever creek which is a very rare 6/10 combination.
how could you miss out on 8 pack bubble lifts and the ferris wheel funitel and thre roosevelt island tram (also double decker version with open rooftop in switzerland). Two other interesting, but maybe not coolest, lifts can be found at Breck. The Quicksilver Super 6 has dual loading at the bottom and the Snowflake lift does a 270 degree turn mid run.
I don't think it's a good idea to focus on the States and Switzerland while completely ignoring Austria. Ischgl/AT + Samnau/CH form the best developed ski area in the world and not even the gigantic Pardatschgratbahn is worth a mention. The Galzigbahn + the Schindlergratbahn in St. Anton, the 3K in Kaprun, the Gaislachkolgelbahnen in Sölden, the Gletschbus 1-3 would have been worth mentioning, as well as many others. But the worst: How could anyone miss the two hottest lifts in Chamonix? Télécabine Panoramic Mont-Blanc and the cable car up the Aiguille du Midi?
They didn’t even show the coolest lift in North America. The Tram in Jackson Hole. Copper Mtn?? C’mon. Only lift I’ve been on that tops it is the glacier lift with glass floor at Zermatt.
That "Matterhorn Glacier ride" is not correct designation - the Matterhorn Glacier is not far away, but not at what for marketing purpose is called "Matterhorn Glacier Paradise" that in fact is "Klein Matterhorn" = "Small Matterhorn". Might have been worth mentioning that from July 2023 on, Klein Matterhorn (Marketing designation "Matterhorn Glacier Paradise") will be connected to Testa Grigia on the Swiss-Italian border for all year access from Zermatt mountain area to Breuil-Cervinia on the Italian side. That up to now was only possible on skis. Other mistake is Titlis - the "Titlis Rotair gondola" is not leading to Mount Titlis, but only to "Klein Titlis" = "Small Titlis". Marketing staff prefers to use "Titlis" that is the peak at a half kilometre behind Klein Titlis.
Sorry, I just have to do this.. at 7:59, you Pronounced the Grande Motte Glacier Cable Car wrong, and Tignes, so basically, Tignes is pronounced Ti-nye, and Grande Motte is pronounced graund mot. thanks for the tips!
You didn't pronounce a single French name correctly. Vanois = Vaah-noyAh. Tignes = TInye. Paradiski = Paradis(paradise)-ski = the accent is on the last one Paradi-skI. It's not a Polish name. GraNde motte = Grand mot. Grande = big, not Grade.

honestly, none of the north american ski resorts come even close to european ones. lake tahoe? park city? really? clearly haven’t been skiing in europe then. way better infrastructure, much bigger resorts, modern skilifts et. what about ischgl/samnaun, kitzbühel, adelboden, verbier, jungfrau region, laax, saas fee, sölden, arlberg, gstaad andandand…. skiresorts in france, northern italy, scandinavia and finland.
Some great information, some skeptical pronunciation of place names.

Nice video bro
That was a great video of content! Thank you!
Thank you! Glad you liked it
@mountainsight that was real cool to see a sauna gondola. That amazed me.
Yeah, it’s definitely a special one!
Vm8an in Åre used to be a hybrid lift but now its only a chairlift. You can see where you used to get Off the gondolas at the top of the lift.

Those things are in other places too...
In Fiss (Austria) you do have a 5-stars restaurant in a gondola
I have been on the American Eagle as a ski racer in fall ski camps
Pretty cool!
Nice one!

* Stanserhorn
Titlis Rotair was constructed year 1992, installed 1993. Table Mountain year 1997. Titlis got a upgraded cabin in 2014.
Snowbird Resort in Utah just added a Cabrio option to their cable car. It's only open in the summer, though.
Hybrid lifts (chair and gondola) are not that uncommon. Their marketing names are Telemix (Poma) and Telecombi (Doppelmayr).
True, they can be found in many countries, but they are super cool!
At least two of them, both quite new, are installed in Russia. One in Sochi (serving the Alpika sector of Gazprom resort) and another in Kirovsk (serving the north sector of Bolshoi Vud"yavr resort).
Penken II (Mayrhofen), Alpkopf (Bichlbach), Nesselwang, Kitzsteinhorn, are exemples for these
i would totally go aboard the summer terrace cable car at Tignes.
Great video although their are many more combination lifts. Not far from Copper mountain their is another one in Colorado at bever creek which is a very rare 6/10 combination.
Telluride also has a 4/4 mix
@@tjneumann7828 Teluride’s lift is cool. But Bever Creek and Coppers lifts are way more important to the mountain and have large vertical rises.
just been to whistler, peak to peak is rly cool
Indeed! Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
It closed for the season, along with Whistler Mountain on April 17. Blackcomb is open until May 22.
Having just spent a week at Whistler/Blackcomb, I really appreciate the enclosed gondolas. Chair lifts are just too cold at high altitudes.
Love a good enclosed gondola!
we have that telemix lift in slovakia twice one in Donovaly Nová Hoľa and one in predné Solisko
As I visited Ylläs last year I didnt see the sauna lift, I still believe its there tho
Its usually in storage because theres not much people renting it
Your pronunciation is hilarious!! 😂
It's pathetic
Sunday river in maine also has a telemix (i prefer chondola)
That's a good name for it as well: Chondola. I like that!
Yah, the chondi came before coppers hybrid and it doesn't make the awful screeching sound that Pomas hybrids do
The whistler peak to peak gondola preceded the klein matterhorn 3s glacier. It did not get inspiration from Zermatt
You should have added the 8 person chair lift of which there are 4 of in the US and are a great new technology or ski lifts 👍🏻
I find even 6 person chairlifts to be too much, an 8 person one would be a gong show.
The Jungfrau express is quite expensive if you don't have a ski pass, but there is a lot to see and do at the summit.
Good advice, thank you!
At Mount Stoos (CH) theres a lift similar to the one in arosa, with the difference that its 47.7° steep. I think thats wort a mention
Pretty sure the one Stoos is the worlds steepest funicular too!
For summer I went to Portillo and I went it and jeez I can’t imagine a snowboarder going up it
Yeah, it must be tricky for snowboarders to get off
How do snowboard the slingshot
15% of the time skiing...like, WHAT?
So you're saying that we only ski/snowboard for 9 minutes and we ride the lift for 51 minutes?
Please explain.
pls make part 2

LIFT QUES ARE A MYTH
Well i'm spending 90% of the time drinking hot chocolate milk, 2% in the lift 1% skiing, and 7% waiting for my mom
I don't think it's a good idea to focus on the States and Switzerland while completely ignoring Austria.

Those are good suggestions as well. They didn't make the cut for this video, but might make a part 2 with other mentionable cool lifts.
They didn’t even show the coolest lift in North America. The Tram in Jackson Hole. Copper Mtn?? C’mon.

Chairlift/Gondola hybrids are actually quite common in France

Where I go I spend 60 to 70% skiing. Because they can handle the lines so they’re not long
I bet you won’t tell where that is xD
@@mountain_sight it’s in Austria. They can manage the lines really good because of the modern lifts
Where I go there are like no lines
You forgot the horse lift in the dolomites
10:15 You forgot sweden btw.
Sorry, I just have to do this.. at 7:59, you Pronounced the Grande Motte Glacier Cable Car wrong, and Tignes, so basically, Tignes is pronounced Ti-nye, and Grande Motte is pronounced graund mot. thanks for the tips!
Is this a computer generated commentary? Some of the place names sound like my car's satnav on a bad day.

He didn't with the German names either.
Skyway Montebianco is the best
No Helbronner ? No Zugspitze ? Oy Vey.....
Good suggestions as well!
