Worse, artificial fur is incredibly damaging to the environment both during manufacture and after it's discarded, plus it doesn't breathe like natural fur (which is why fur from culled bears is used for the military ''hats'' around the world) and wearing plastic - which is exactly what fake fur is - isn't healthy for anyone or anything.

@@ABC1701A You''re absolutely correct but the same argument must be made for nylon - made from fossil fuels - as in fabrics of all descriptions and carpets, acrylics used in furniture production, the medical industry, dentistry, finger nails (produced by the billions), jewellery etc., to name just a tiny number of industries involved and items encountered worldwide. Not only does it not decompose but if burnt it gives off harmful, toxic fumes as well. Personally, I would never wear fur of any description (I'd rather support the marino industry) but for "Robes of Office" where fur is part of the official dress, the fashion industry has contracted to avoid 'what is harmful to animals', so anyone required to wear a newly made Official Robe won't have much choice. Mind you.....since all marine life is also contaminated with minuscule plastic particles, I guess those of us who eat fish can't avoid that either. It's a very sad and highly polluted world we as humans have managed to tarnish in the name of progress, haven't we?

They ended up with the best of both worlds for years anyway. Also, if interested he had proposed to Lady Amanda Knachbull just before Diana but she turned him down. She was fed up with being ignored when Camilla was around and could see what it would be like. Neil, this is ‘old news’ in America. Queen Elizabeth II decreed multiple decades ago, that the monarchy would no longer be using “real fur“ to trim the Royal Robes. When replacements were needed for the robes, and/or the trim, it would only be with synthetic but look alike ‘ fur ‘ trim. The transformation would be in stages as it was far too costly to redo everything in one fell swoop. As the ceremonial robes begin to look tattered, they would all be replaced with lighter and more breathable synthetic materials. This would also include the trim. The new trim would be made of look-alike synthetic.’fur’. I really thought everyone already knew this.🤷‍♀️

Some of my best clothes are decades old ❤ The quality actually lasts. A good compromise would be to be to leave the historical garments/robes in tact, but not use any real fur going forward and in her personal wardrobe. It was a different time then, historical items should be preserved as much as possible in their original condition. I'm a staunch animal lover to the core, so I would not advocate for fur on anything new. They shouldn't tamper with the historical pieces.

If a creature has already died and the fur used, what is the point of now discarding it? It's like ivory; items made of ivory which predate a certain year can legally be traded. Items made after that are illegal. I can't see the difference.

As a raw vegan, I find someone wearing a decades old hand me down fur piece less objectionable than the one tucking into a filet of beef every Sunday.

Why is it important for CLOTHES to "LOOK EXPENSIVE" ???? It's what goes inside them that causes the seething jealousy; real Beauty looks great in the proverbial Patato Sack.😏 !

I feel the same way about furs as I do about ivory. I'm glad that the wholesale, unthinking slaughter of animals has made an enormous turn-around. But, for the very old ivory objects, or fur that became a part of historical garments or whatever, leave them be. There's no bringing back those animals. Just stick with the artificial fur/ivory going forward. To destroy or toss out the older things is wasteful and futile.

Some traditions need to change as the world has changed. Kudos to her for standing up for animals and their right to keep their own fur.

Princess Anne is a woman after my own heart...low maintenance!
I was christened Elizabeth Anne and recall mum's glossy full colour book of Queen Elizabeth's Coronation along with fine bone china souvenir cups and saucers. This Aussie was always going to be a Monarchist 😊

I can see not buying anymore real fur. However, I don't think that the old traditional robes should be torn apart to put the faux fur. You wouldn't want to risk destroying these relics of history. I would only replace these traditional royal garb with faux fur if the real fur is tattered and needed replacement.

Good morning Neil. Princess Catherine is one of those unique people who actually looks good in beige. I have 2 fur coats both totally fake. Look just as good and so much cheaper

I remember how fur was still popular in the 1970's but by the end of the 1980's it was a detested fashion accessory.
Bridget Bardot's anti-fur stance resonated throughout the media and all of a sudden my friends were donating their rabbit skin bomber jackets to charity.

I think Queen Camilla wrote to PETA stating she would no longer buy real fur but that Royal Regalia which traditionally has fur trim will continue to be worn. I suspect that when replacements are necessary existing fur will be ‘re-worked’

I can understand anything new being made from fake fur , but don't see the point in replacing the clothing from the dressing up box doing so won't bring the animals back to life and will take something away from out tradition and history

I see a difference between new outfits being trimmed with fur or even made entirely of fur,.... and pieces from the past that have fur. Yes, now that we know the treatment that obtained the fur for clothing, I can well understand the call to quit wearing fur. But given historic pieces, the actual debate about these pieces is "past its time". These pieces, because they are well taken care of, ought be worn with pride and not disgrace.
