The Bearskin hats last 80 years. Theere are a limited number if bears taken as part if wildlife management in Canada. So far they have not found a workable fake fur replacement that does not get water logged and extremely heavy.
If the Royal robes are already trimmed with ermine, it is not harmful to wear them. After all, the animals are long dead. But were they to make new robes that require fur, that is a big no-no.

Some of my best clothes are decades old ❤ The quality actually lasts. A good compromise would be to be to leave the historical garments/robes in tact, but not use any real fur going forward and in her personal wardrobe. It was a different time then, historical items should be preserved as much as possible in their original condition. I'm a staunch animal lover to the core, so I would not advocate for fur on anything new. They shouldn't tamper with the historical pieces.

I feel the same way about furs as I do about ivory. I'm glad that the wholesale, unthinking slaughter of animals has made an enormous turn-around. But, for the very old ivory objects, or fur that became a part of historical garments or whatever, leave them be. There's no bringing back those animals. Just stick with the artificial fur/ivory going forward. To destroy or toss out the older things is wasteful and futile.

I can see not buying anymore real fur. However, I don't think that the old traditional robes should be torn apart to put the faux fur. You wouldn't want to risk destroying these relics of history. I think Queen Camilla wrote to PETA stating she would no longer buy real fur but that Royal Regalia which traditionally has fur trim will continue to be worn. I suspect that when replacements are necessary existing fur will be ‘re-worked’

I feel the same way about furs as I do about ivory. I'm glad that the wholesale, unthinking slaughter of animals has made an enormous turn-around. But, for the very old ivory objects, or fur that became a part of historical garments or whatever, leave them be. There's no bringing back those animals. Just stick with the artificial fur/ivory going forward. To destroy or toss out the older things is wasteful and futile.

I can see not buying anymore real fur. However, I don't think that the old traditional robes should be torn apart to put the faux fur. You wouldn't want to risk destroying these relics of history. I would only replace these traditional royal garb with faux fur if the real fur is tattered and needed replacement.

I remember how fur was still popular in the 1970's but by the end of the 1980's it was a detested fashion accessory.
Bridget Bardot's anti-fur stance resonated throughout the media and all of a sudden my friends were donating their rabbit skin bomber jackets to charity.
I think Queen Camilla wrote to PETA stating she would no longer buy real fur but that Royal Regalia which traditionally has fur trim will continue to be worn. I suspect that when replacements are necessary existing fur will be ‘re-worked’
I can understand anything new being made from fake fur , but don't see the point in replacing the clothing from the dressing up box doing so won't bring the animals back to life and will take something away from out tradition and history
I see a difference between new outfits being trimmed with fur or even made entirely of fur,.... and pieces from the past that have fur. Yes, now that we know the treatment that obtained the fur for clothing, I can well understand the call to quit wearing fur. But given historic pieces, the actual debate about these pieces is "past its time". These pieces, because they are well taken care of, ought be worn with pride and not disgrace.
