    So it always comes down to money. Developers don't care to save old and existing trees despite nearly everyone preferring it. An enormous area couple miles from me was clear cut to build a school. It was a dense forest with huge old trees before they "developed" that land. It would have been a beautiful school with a great playground for kids had they kept even some trees for shade. But now we get more concrete

    Alief is almost always hotter than the city, which makes little sense. If we had not allowed bob lanier and tom delay destroy our commuter train plans, the entire region would be cooler and far less polluted.
    Our HOA has been denuding our neighborhood for decades. It used to look like a forest out here, and not just our neighborhood. All of the tall, old trees were cut down, to visibly expose the size of real estate lots. Now our area is sweltering, and all of the micro bats are dead = more mosquitoes.

      @@98slime86 In addition to replacing the water I sweat out, I also make sure I stay the hell out of the heat as much as possible. I have to walk about 100 yards to the laundry room at my apartment complex, and when I put my laundry in the washer and walk back I'm all hot and sweaty. I chug ice water and turn the AC up to get cool air blowing on me. By the time the laundry is done, I'm cooled down and ready to go back and get my load. And after I'm done with the laundry, I stay the hell inside.

    Well, yes, concrete heats up more than dirt. It's not oppression and has nothing to do with oppression. If you work your tail off to make the money to live around trees, nothing wrong with that.
    Why is this "unacceptable"? Do you think the government should step in and take away land from people who have earned it?

  • @IronKnuckle08
    @IronKnuckle08 21 день назад

    Unfortunately, this is completely caused by developers + the city. All about the quick $$$$ instead of creating livable communities. In each of these areas they are showing that are hotter have ALL had massive commercial and multi-family residential development in the last two decades. Maybe, if the city/county would have had laws that limited the number of trees that could be cut down, or the amount of concrete that could be used, and most importantly stop making the numerous parking lots everywhere then things wouldn't have gotten to this point.
    On the other side of the coin however, the sheer number of people who have moved here in the past two decades caused this need for this expansion. And most of them have to live in apartments rather than houses because the influx happened too fast. There's just WAY too many people living in Houston now... and if I know anything about the last two decades it's more people = more development = less trees in the end. Planting more trees I believe won't help because the bulldozing and flattening/compacting of the land prevents the roots from reaching deep into the ground. Most of the trees I see that have been planted only grow up to a certain height, which those don't provide much cover.
    BUT!!! You can find neighborhoods with plenty of tree cover outside of the city! FYI pretty much all of the neighborhood in the city are min priced in the $700,000 and up for housing. I currently live in old Katy where you see this kinda happening too, but the areas with the greater number of trees houses are actually still decently priced.
