Austin, Texas born and raised. I LOVE it here, always will. There’s things I love and hate about each little town or big city, but as a whole, I love it all. Each part of Texas has its own feel and culture and I feel like everyone can find a spot in Texas that fits them and their own values. Maybe a lot of us are just bias because this is our home. I think the reality is there’s just something about it here. I’ve traveled all over the state and growing up. I’ve seen prettier states. Had more fun in other states. But something about it here makes a lot of us want to stay here forever. It’s home.
I'm a Floridian who moved to HTX for a 9 month residency and planned on moving away immediatelyafter that because "Texas." That was 6 years ago. Texas kind of rocks. Low cost of living. High incomes. Big cities. Green city spaces. Southern personalities with Northern amenities in the cities. It's pretty great.
Just when I think I can’t like Dr John any more he brings on one of my most favorite people in the world!!! Loved this interview! Love Dr John! Thanks for all you do. You are an amazing addition for the Ramsey team! You can talk about Texas all you want! Have at it! And this is from a girl with Arkansas roots who was raised to despise all things Texas! Be proud! Haters gonna hate something! Might as well be Texas!
This made me laugh so hard! I'm born and raised Arkansas girl too, and these Texas boys have won me over. I agree with Dr. D is the freshest voice on the Ramsey network, so cool to see this comment Holly. 🙌
This interview is one I will remember! Good for you for bringing to light the issues in parenting and others facing our country. As a mother of 4 now young adults, I remember well the pushback of parents. I wasn't my children's friend but they knew I loved them. I think this conversation, and book, is a real step forward. These days, we need more of that. Thanks to both of you.
John! This was beautiful! Thank you to Matthew for sharing his unique brand of calming wisdom, and thank you for repping our great state in the wild blue yonder!
Really was a treat to have read his book and then have seen this interview with Matthew McConaughey. Love how grounded he is. Inspiring for me to bring up my game. Thanks !
Awesome interview and I agree with the parent talk in advice. Say that a lot also. Amen to the parent speech. Thanks all the way from Manitoba!! God bless you both. 😇💕🌹🙏🏻
Matthew McConnaughey spoke the brutal truth! One that I needed growing up and keep searching for in adulthood. Thank you for this interview. Will be using this interview to guide me every morning & as meditation every night. Will be purchasing his book!!!
Great show.. cant wait to read the book!! My bf and I cant get enough of Dr. John's show.. I think sprinkle us with nite great interviews! This show is a great tool in
Love listening to you and Dave. Longhorn living in DC. Your chats remind me of home. Keep up the the great job. Matt rocks. Down to earth, talented and honest and his life.
Dr John You are a hoot ❗️ I love your sense of humor. I have to have laughter in my life, life's a serious business but as long as I can laugh with friends and laugh at myself it sure takes some of those bumps out of the road.
It is always good for us to know that others are dealing with the same life issues, that just because someone is famous, does not mean they are above every day issues. Thank you 😊
Yesss!! Kids need to learn how to cope with disappointment and you don't always win or get credit or get a paycheck just because you show up. You got to work and get hurt. It's how you pick yourself up and move forward!
You did a great interview. And I'm real glad that you didn't cut him off as he was speaking. That my friend is a secret to a great interview. Thank you both very much..... Ain't that America 🇺🇲
So funny I just saw his book on a shelf at work yesterday. And thought to myself “man everyone writes a book now” hahaha didn’t know what it was about but that was my thought. This was a good down to earth interview. I’m really excited about this podcast.
Love his point about the people on the sidelines. Too many of us listen to naysayers who aren't even qualified! I wanted to be an actress, singer, and performer writer when I was young. Everybody in my family told me no - I shouldn't want that. That's a corrupt career at best, at worst an inconsistent one, not everybody makes it to the top, you have to sleep your way up the casting couch... You know what my acting teachers told me? They gave me screen tests and stage tests and introduced me to casting directors. I got a ton of actionable positive advice about improving, followed it and joined The Young Americans, a traveling performing arts group. I also wanted to be a writer. People pooh pooed that even more! Thing is none of those people were in the performing industry or the writing or publishing industry. I found a University with a strong English department and worked for the computer lab in the library while making connections with folks in the writing industry. None of the pros discouraged me at all. They did the opposite. They helped or taught me. Or introduced me to folks who could. They wanted more writers to succeed. So did the publishers and editors - they just wanted the best work out there possible. Most folks give up if they have to edit or take it personally instead of as constructive feedback. If you're willing to learn about a publishers audience, and cater to it, then you're more likely to be able to get published by that publisher. Wound up writing blogs for profit as a side hustle. Made $50-500/ blog while sending queries... You gotta get info from qualified sources. Not just folks hoping to protect you from the pain of rejection, because they could accidentally rob you of profitable lessons that would guide you toward the successful future you desire. Or they're scared of your success because maybe it will mean you'd no longer need them or value their relationship in your life. They might be scared you outgrow them, or jealous. So heads up. Even well meaning people could give awful advice.
15:10 that is soo true. All I ever did was show up and it was enough and as a 21 year old i finally had to learn how to do hard things and push through instead of seeing a collection of small things as difficult.
LOL the huge Texas flag 🇨🇱. I LOVE IT!!! But I am partial since I'm from Texas 🙆♀️ awesome to see none other than Matthew McConaughey on this episode 🤩🤩🤩
The Highway Men album with Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Chris Kristofferson, and Willie Nelson. The best of the best, folks. Can't get any better than this for true country music.
hi Matthew, hi John, listen I am a child that blew through that just blew through my childhood trauma blue through them never dealt with them. Nobody ever even offered help and now that I'm an adult and I'm 65 years old I had a stroke well that stroke awakened every childhood trauma so I think I should not have just run through it. I should I should have dealt with it when it wastime to deal with it so it's hard to deal with something at 65 because in life takes enough away from you anyway love you show Jon I really need to talk to you personally about my own personal stuff but anyways go Texas spent time in Austin
"We slow down too much and give crisis too much credit" GAVE ME CHILLS!! I need to read his book ASAP
