It's my biggest complaint with the game. And there are a few. I have played it on series x and the streets are practically empty. The few NPCs that are there are robotic and have no personality. Whole game has zero atmosphere and makes an open world setting pointless
Yea if they released it this December on next gen and pc only it would be the game they actually promised. Still would be disappointing for many honestly because people were hyping it up to be gta 6 and it’s just not that.
@@ayourmum8521 idk, a lot of the things they've fixed in the last 6 months are because of complaints. If they had delayed it, they probably would not have fixed a lot of these bugs anyways. This is sadly the best way, since they are being forced to fix bugs to salvage any reputation they have left. I played it on a series x back in December and enjoyed it though. It was buggy but still a fun story and cool map. Haven't touched it since but when the dlc comes out with all these patches and the nex gen patch, I'm looking forward to it.

Given how things were at release, it kind of is a win XD On base PS4 I had it crash a dozen times over the course of a few hours, at least three of them was while trying to do a cyberpsycho mission in a rather contained area (compared to some of the others you go after). Then that first post launch patch we got addressed at least some of the crashes (could play for 3 to 4hrs before the game would crash). Started playing it again around this patch coming out and as far as post-patch stability is concerned, it's yet to crash on me (logged a few hours on it before my nephew showed up). Performance is still pretty shitty at times, though it seems that combat is easier to manage, fewer frame drops. May actually go more guns blazing this time instead of sneaking and hacking like I was previously (kind of the only way to really play the game since most enemies are toasted before you even walk into the room ... or building when you have better quickhacks)

Yeah, you just cannot put back some things together. The game is too far gone. There are integral issues with the engine, gameplay mechanics, quest design, story, unfinished areas, etc. You just cannot patch all those things.
I have a Samsung 970 EVO Plus in a usb-c enclosure for my ps5 for PS4 games. It’s much better playing off of that, not as good as my pc build. Though I must say I highly doubt many people are going to spend hundreds on a mid tier M.2 to improve load and streaming for last gen games.
That's probably doable on current gen machines, their storage are extremely fast. But last gen consoles were always doomed to fail, this was like trying to run The Withcer 3 on a PS3 instead of skipping it for the PS4
Tbh delaying the game maybe just wasn't an option for them anymore because of the community's outcry every time they had to announce a delay. Maybe that was just a small portion of crybabies, I don't know. So the investors or who ever actually rushed it was like "f*ck it, throw it out. The city is dead got all them skyscrapers and no vertically it sucks from a map design stand point. Just cuz a game has some cool art dont make it a good game m8. Goddammit, the seventh gen was some hot trash. GTAV on old gen consoles used to drop to sub-15 fps at times. That's excusable with a game like GTAV running on hardware from 2005, but that was a common issue across the board during the course of the whole generation. Many games couldn't get a stable 30.
Well I've heard that they don't have experience on doing these big open world shooters, I think they should have tried to do another game with less resources just to taste waters, this game only stand graphically (when it works) and musically, the soundtrack is good lol

30 fps is not a luxury, it's a bare minimum required to consider a game functional at all. One frame dropped during certain transitions every now and then may be acceptable but if the game regularly runs at sub 30 fps, it's just broken.
It never really looked that bad if anything the reviews from the ps5 were better then most but sure I'm not to worried about it imo it will be better regardless what matters is performance overall
It's nice of CDPR to make a silent hill game, low poly enemies teleporting in front of you is terrifying! Not to mention those zombie headshaking horrors.

Same. Finished it twice and had a decent amount of bugs and crashes along the way, but nothing too gamebreaking after the first couple patches. Ended up having a really good time. Regardless of any technical stuff, I found the story and characters really compelling. Sad to see so many people have a bad experience.

Man that would of been really cool if Night City was just like the Nefarious City. Instead Night City just looks like a beat up version of Las Vegas. But on the poor side of Vegas lol. The movie 5th Element did way better at their City, and that movie is super old now HAHA.
Sadly not feasible without a really fast SSD, of the kind which just start becoming available to PC gamers at premium prices. It will take a while until you have a target group sufficiently big in size to make it worthwhile building this for the PC.

Cyberpunk just gave me a new appreciation for just how difficult it is to make an open world modern-age game. Which lead to me swiftly refunding it, and reinstalling GTA5 to marvel at how Rockstar achieved what they acheived, without crashes or major glitches ruining the game and story. Food for thought.

Really doubt Sony removed the game because of quality issues (cough cough Life of Black Tiger) i think they did it to teach CD Projekt red a lesson in regards to the whole refund debacle. Think the game needs some under the hood improvements like with AI and hear some of the things in skill trees really need changing
It took them THIS long to get this game in a playable state. That said, anyone waiting for that DLC or next gen patch will probably be waiting a long, long time.

Based on CDPR's progress, I have very little expectations for the nex-gen patch (not to mention, that it would be a miracle if it would come out this year). I guess the current state will be called the "performance mode" and we are going to get a few visual extras with 30fps.
So note for developers. Don't spend an entire console generation making only 1 game that's over ambitious for the hardware you started working on in the first place
well no, cause the game was built for pc and than ported to console. the game is a hot mess on pc, bugs galore, broken game mechanics, nothing that was promised is in it and the world is dead and empty. it should obviously been on the oven for another 2 years.
Why "obviously"? This is not a next gen title in any way. The AI is 20 years behind what gaming can offer today, the RPG elements aren't even at the level of Mass Effect 1&2 or Skyrim, let alone hardcore RPGs of the late 90s and early 00s, the city has barely anything to do beyond the main game, an issue solved by open world games such as San Andreas some 15 years ago...so why should this have been a next gen title?

For anyone still being defensive of this game or the developer: You bought a brand new car - It looks stunning, but on closer inspection the paint is full of patchworks. The engine sputters and coughs and the ride is horrible due to shoddy cheap suspension. You check and realise the suspension and engine parts are not the same ones which the salesman advertised to you. After other buyers had the same problem, the manufacturer agrees to start recalls and gives you a roadmap. It's been 6 months and multiple recalls since then. The engine has been worked on that now it only occasionally sputters. Paint is left to be worked on. Suspension can't be changed because that would require entire car to be redesigned. After 6 months you have a car which still does not run well, has no hope of reparation and any redemption lies in aftermarket parts. Wouldn't you hate the company who sold it you? Wouldn't you hate the car. A video game is also a product just like a car and a game developer is just as similar to a car manufacturer
Get the Pc version. The streets are loaded with people. The Ps4 Cpu can't handle all of the physics calculations involved with rendering large crowds. It can't be fixed. It's a hardware limitation.
Playing on a series x and theres more cars on the roads... but NONE of them work. They literally just stop in the center of the road and traffic paths wont register.

I just remembered all the hype surrounding this game for years, the choreographed trailers, the matrix guy calling people beautiful. People raving nonstop. I never saw the appeal and it looked like a generic and boring sci-fi shooter even with the best trailers. Not a graphics showcase. I didn't even know about "ray-tracing" on this title until it was launched. And it's funny how opinions have switched so quickly. It's almost like most of the internet has convenient amnesia, which is to be expected since the internet is pretty adverse to the concept of integrity. It's very fickle. Cyberpunk videos on DF are always fun to watch. It's like watching a hostage situation where the DF guys try to talk their way into giving this trainwreck a passing score while they subliminally send SOS signals using the frame graph.
it was hyped because of who was making it, the game never really looked that interesting and even the gameplay trailers were confusing. some of them made the game look almost as melee based as it was a shooter. i didnt have high hopes going in and i still was disappointed

I really feel like Driv3r (2004) was the tipping point, that was the first game I ever remember being released like half finished. Atari paid good money to scrub bad press about it off the internet, too.
I've seen people on twitter saying that the crashes have been fixed for a long time. Since 1.20 doesn't sound like a long time. Or the classic "I'm on ps4 and never experienced a crash so therefore it's not real claims" Delusions are truly high!
To be fair on XSX the NPC density and the number of cars is pretty high, doesn't feel that empty. It's actually the only console where you can have traffic jams in the game.
I wish they would just admit defeat and move on at this point. The game was a disappointment and seriously damaged CDPR’s street cred. Time for Gwent 2.

Honestly. A next-gen game running on a 7½ year old console at 25-30fps is a success in my book. It's better than what GTAV was for PS3... However, back then the internet didn't complain as much as it does today. I am actually amazed that cyberpunk runs this well with regards to how complex the rendering and asset variety (+ streaming) actually is. I remember playing Elder Scrolls Morrowind and Star Wars KotOR in a 10-30fps on original xbox. :) and people were just happy they could play powerful "PC games" on consoles.... no matter how downgraded they were.
Last gen has: weak 2013 laptop jaguar cpus and low bandwidth hard drives so you are right if you ask me. It's bizarre that CDPR didn't just go full next gen, their engine is trying to make hyper dense, higher detail environments and assets constantly streaming in. Even a layman like myself could've told them that the last gen SKUs didn't make sense to bother with. People would still be excited about the game and they'd have had less programming restraints and less hardware to design for if they'd just gone PS5 and Series X/S for holiday 2021. Man did the upper management and board of directors botch this.

I really think that a lot of low fps analyses quoting % differences are rather missing the point, as are very high fps analyses... At the end of the day, a 16% difference from average 25 fps to 29 fps is very different from average 150 fps to 174 fps. i.e. you're really helping a 144 Hz monitor reach its optimum more often than not and really, 25 vs 29 fps are not really worse or better than each other in general, IMO. Similarly, 25 fps vs 39 fps (56%) and 50 fps vs 78 fps (56%) are quite different talking points... as is 150 fps vs 234 fps. With the last comparison providing the majority of gamers a pointless piece of data. Honestly, I'd like to sort of move away from percentage based comparisons or at least heavily caveat them or couch them in actual performance numbers to ground their value. This especially applies to FSR and DLSS discussion...

I find it so funny to see some people saying that this game should be exclusive to PC and Next-Gen and that they should stop and give up at once on improving the version for the old-gen consoles. People forget that this game was announced in 2013 (and then again in 2016), at that time I didn't even have a clue what the new consoles would be like and besides Cyberpunk was advertised as if it was built ground up for PS4/Xbox One, there is literally a playable 2013 build of this game that was leaked on reddit (you can search it on youtube if you like) still 3rd person, but most details were kept from that build (same character name, same apartment layout, same world-view structure) and in 2013 the PS3 and Xbox 360 were still alive and receiving games (in fact, Metal Gear Solid 5, Persona 5, Rise of The Tomb Raider and many other gamers came out for these consoles between 2015 - 2016) the PS4/Xbox One were just being born at that time, the fault is definitely not the consoles, but the CD Project lying and putting the console versions as the last plan and the result was this disastrous release. Just seeing how much the PS4 version has improved compared to the disaster it was at launch makes me very happy, here in Brazil consoles are very expensive and due to the pandemic I'm in a situation where I don't see myself buying a new console so soon so I plan to stay with the PS4 for a few more years so I'm glad they're trying to improve the PS4 version as much as they can, it's not like everyone is able to move to PS5 anyway (even more with the out-of-stock issues that consoles are facing. ) Games that were first announced as only-next gen like Godfall, Gran Turismo 7 and the new God of War are not going cross-gen for nothing, not everyone can migrate from PS4 to PS5 anytime soon even more in the situation than the world meets now.

Pre-production had already begun i.e. asset creation, engine building, music, art/concept art etc. TLOU2 took 7 years to make but came out 4 years after Uncharted 4 and 3 years after Uncharted: Lost Lagacy. Stop defending mediocracy! The project started before 2012 and was rebooted/scraped several times before release
Its original release date was April 16th 2020, nearly 7 months before the next gen consoles were released. Most likely PC was always the lead platform, and they just assumed they could easily scale the game to fit the different consoles.

CDPR made it clear that after Witcher 3’a content was done Cyberpunk will go into full production which was in 2016. They had a 4 year development cycle and considering how early they showed the game when it clearly was not ready for release. They should have kept working and fleshing out mechanics before start showing. They were still adding and removing features in 2018.
Unrelated, but I wish you guys would bring back DF HDR. I know those videos were a hassle to produce but they were ahead of their time. I actually remember John complaining in one of them that he couldn’t even watch them yet on his iPhone X. Well, RUclips has supported HDR playback on iPhones for a while now, not to mention the iPad Pro and AppleTV 4K.
This game's engine just doesn't seem very efficient. For the performance that you get the visuals don't evoke that "nextgen" feeling. I've played the game on a Ryzen 3900x with a RTX 3070 running on high settings with RT enabled and it didn't blow my mind like I thought it would. It looked good but I think GTA5 with mods looks better and it's an old game :/
Probably because the game engine in itself cannot handle much. Even with current graphics and total lack of gameplay systems, the engine seems to be struggling. It's just a shoddily built game and it shows. Sad because the artwork deserves praise. I wish they can sell off assets like the map and let someone else work on it.

This game made me appreciate Rockstar more. They created a beautiful open world on base ps4 and xbone that run at 30fps with no crashes and no weird bugs and glitches.
To be fair the "Next-Gen" version is going to be the first "real" version of the game on consoles. On last gen it's just damage control. Should have never been released on consoles with a HDD and a 8 year old CPU. Basically trying to run on an old laptop. Really hoping the XS/PS5 version will not be butchered, and bugs will be gone.
I don’t think it should ever have come to PS4 and Xbox One. I wish they had simply aimed for PC, XSX and PS5. But it’s easy to forget the state Witcher 3 launched in, and now that’s my favourite video game of all time. I have faith that when we get the next gen upgrade, it will be a damn fine game.

It's my biggest complaint with the game. And there are a few. I have played it on series x and the streets are practically empty. The few NPCs that are there are robotic and have no personality. Whole game has zero atmosphere and makes an open world setting pointless

@@ayourmum8521 idk, a lot of the things they've fixed in the last 6 months are because of complaints. If they had delayed it, they probably would not have fixed a lot of these bugs anyways. This is sadly the best way, since they are being forced to fix bugs to salvage any reputation they have left. I played it on a series x back in December and enjoyed it though. It was buggy but still a fun story and cool map. Haven't touched it since but when the dlc comes out with all these patches and the nex gen patch, I'm looking forward to it.

Given how things were at release, it kind of is a win XD On base PS4 I had it crash a dozen times over the course of a few hours, at least three of them was while trying to do a cyberpsycho mission in a rather contained area (compared to some of the others you go after). Then that first post launch patch we got addressed at least some of the crashes (could play for 3 to 4hrs before the game would crash). Started playing it again around this patch coming out and as far as post-patch stability is concerned, it's yet to crash on me (logged a few hours on it before my nephew showed up).
Performance is still pretty shitty at times, though it seems that combat is easier to manage, fewer frame drops. May actually go more guns blazing this time instead of sneaking and hacking like I was previously (kind of the only way to really play the game since most enemies are toasted before you even walk into the room ... or building when you have better quickhacks)

Yeah, you just cannot put back some things together. The game is too far gone. There are integral issues with the engine, gameplay mechanics, quest design, story, unfinished areas, etc. You just cannot patch all those things.

I have a Samsung 970 EVO Plus in a usb-c enclosure for my ps5 for PS4 games. It’s much better playing off of that, not as good as my pc build. Though I must say I highly doubt many people are going to spend hundreds on a mid tier M.2 to improve load and streaming for last gen games.
That's probably doable on current gen machines, their storage are extremely fast. But last gen consoles were always doomed to fail, this was like trying to run The Withcer 3 on a PS3 instead of skipping it for the PS4
CDPR should just call it a day and give up, work on next gen consoles and PC only.

30 fps is not a luxury, it's a bare minimum required to consider a game functional at all. One frame dropped during certain transitions every now and then may be acceptable but if the game regularly runs at sub 30 fps, it's just broken.

Same. Finished it twice and had a decent amount of bugs and crashes along the way, but nothing too gamebreaking after the first couple patches. Ended up having a really good time. Regardless of any technical stuff, I found the story and characters really compelling. Sad to see so many people have a bad experience.

Cyberpunk just gave me a new appreciation for just how difficult it is to make an open world modern-age game.
Which lead to me swiftly refunding it, and reinstalling GTA5 to marvel at how Rockstar achieved what they acheived, without crashes or major glitches ruining the game and story. Food for thought.

Based on CDPR's progress, I have very little expectations for the nex-gen patch (not to mention, that it would be a miracle if it would come out this year). I guess the current state will be called the "performance mode" and we are going to get a few visual extras with 30fps.

well no, cause the game was built for pc and than ported to console. the game is a hot mess on pc, bugs galore, broken game mechanics, nothing that was promised is in it and the world is dead and empty. it should obviously been on the oven for another 2 years.
Why "obviously"? This is not a next gen title in any way. The AI is 20 years behind what gaming can offer today, the RPG elements aren't even at the level of Mass Effect 1&2 or Skyrim, let alone hardcore RPGs of the late 90s and early 00s, the city has barely anything to do beyond the main game, an issue solved by open world games such as San Andreas some 15 years ago...so why should this have been a next gen title?

You bought a brand new car -
It looks stunning, but on closer inspection the paint is full of patchworks. The engine sputters and coughs and the ride is horrible due to shoddy cheap suspension. You check and realise the suspension and engine parts are not the same ones which the salesman advertised to you.
After other buyers had the same problem, the manufacturer agrees to start recalls and gives you a roadmap.
It's been 6 months and multiple recalls since then. The engine has been worked on that now it only occasionally sputters. Paint is left to be worked on. Suspension can't be changed because that would require entire car to be redesigned.
After 6 months you have a car which still does not run well, has no hope of reparation and any redemption lies in aftermarket parts.
Wouldn't you hate the company who sold it you? Wouldn't you hate the car.
A video game is also a product just like a car and a game developer is just as similar to a car manufacturer

Get the Pc version. The streets are loaded with people. The Ps4 Cpu can't handle all of the physics calculations involved with rendering large crowds. It can't be fixed. It's a hardware limitation.
Playing on a series x and theres more cars on the roads... but NONE of them work. They literally just stop in the center of the road and traffic paths wont register.

I just remembered all the hype surrounding this game for years, the choreographed trailers, the matrix guy calling people beautiful. People raving nonstop. I never saw the appeal and it looked like a generic and boring sci-fi shooter even with the best trailers. Not a graphics showcase. I didn't even know about "ray-tracing" on this title until it was launched. And it's funny how opinions have switched so quickly. It's almost like most of the internet has convenient amnesia, which is to be expected since the internet is pretty adverse to the concept of integrity. It's very fickle. Cyberpunk videos on DF are always fun to watch. It's like watching a hostage situation where the DF guys try to talk their way into giving this trainwreck a passing score while they subliminally send SOS signals using the frame graph.
It's a stunning Tech Demo. I actually finished the story and felt no attachment to the main or any side characters. A beautiful nothing game.

it was hyped because of who was making it, the game never really looked that interesting and even the gameplay trailers were confusing. some of them made the game look almost as melee based as it was a shooter. i didnt have high hopes going in and i still was disappointed

To be fair on XSX the NPC density and the number of cars is pretty high, doesn't feel that empty. It's actually the only console where you can have traffic jams in the game.
It might drop to 30fps in exchange for the next gen graphics.

Honestly. A next-gen game running on a 7½ year old console at 25-30fps is a success in my book. It's better than what GTAV was for PS3... However, back then the internet didn't complain as much as it does today. I am actually amazed that cyberpunk runs this well with regards to how complex the rendering and asset variety (+ streaming) actually is. I remember playing Elder Scrolls Morrowind and Star Wars KotOR in a 10-30fps on original xbox. :) and people were just happy they could play powerful "PC games" on consoles.... no matter how downgraded they were.

Last gen has: weak 2013 laptop jaguar cpus and low bandwidth hard drives so you are right if you ask me. It's bizarre that CDPR didn't just go full next gen, their engine is trying to make hyper dense, higher detail environments and assets constantly streaming in. Even a layman like myself could've told them that the last gen SKUs didn't make sense to bother with. People would still be excited about the game and they'd have had less programming restraints and less hardware to design for if they'd just gone PS5 and Series X/S for holiday 2021. Man did the upper management and board of directors botch this.

I appreciate you using fps difference instead of % difference in this analysis, Tom. I really think that a lot of low fps analyses quoting % differences are rather missing the point, as are very high fps analyses...
At the end of the day, a 16% difference from average 25 fps to 29 fps is very different from average 150 fps to 174 fps. i.e. you're really helping a 144 Hz monitor reach its optimum more often than not and really, 25 vs 29 fps are not really worse or better than each other in general, IMO.
Similarly, 25 fps vs 39 fps (56%) and 50 fps vs 78 fps (56%) are quite different talking points... as is 150 fps vs 234 fps. With the last comparison providing the majority of gamers a pointless piece of data.
Honestly, I'd like to sort of move away from percentage based comparisons or at least heavily caveat them or couch them in actual performance numbers to ground their value. This especially applies to FSR and DLSS discussion...

I find it so funny to see some people saying that this game should be exclusive to PC and Next-Gen and that they should stop and give up at once on improving the version for the old-gen consoles.
People forget that this game was announced in 2013 (and then again in 2016), at that time I didn't even have a clue what the new consoles would be like and besides Cyberpunk was advertised as if it was built ground up for PS4/Xbox One, there is literally a playable 2013 build of this game that was leaked on reddit (you can search it on youtube if you like) still 3rd person, but most details were kept from that build (same character name, same apartment layout, same world-view structure) and in 2013 the PS3 and Xbox 360 were still alive and receiving games (in fact, Metal Gear Solid 5, Persona 5, Rise of The Tomb Raider and many other gamers came out for these consoles between 2015 - 2016) the PS4/Xbox One were just being born at that time, the fault is definitely not the consoles, but the CD Project lying and putting the console versions as the last plan and the result was this disastrous release.
Just seeing how much the PS4 version has improved compared to the disaster it was at launch makes me very happy, here in Brazil consoles are very expensive and due to the pandemic I'm in a situation where I don't see myself buying a new console so soon so I plan to stay with the PS4 for a few more years so I'm glad they're trying to improve the PS4 version as much as they can, it's not like everyone is able to move to PS5 anyway (even more with the out-of-stock issues that consoles are facing. )
Games that were first announced as only-next gen like Godfall, Gran Turismo 7 and the new God of War are not going cross-gen for nothing, not everyone can migrate from PS4 to PS5 anytime soon even more in the situation than the world meets now.

I actually cannot believe how shit this looks on last-gen (PS4). Clearly, this was designed with next gen consoles in mind but that's no excuse for how shoddy it looks.
I mean the game was announced in 2013 before the PS4 even came out. It was designed for last gen but clearly, nobody could have predicted in 2013 that in 2020 we would have raytracing features and stuff. CDPR probably just tried to upgrade the graphics last minute to accommodate next gen but they dropped the ball

Pre-production had already begun i.e. asset creation, engine building, music, art/concept art etc. TLOU2 took 7 years to make but came out 4 years after Uncharted 4 and 3 years after Uncharted: Lost Lagacy. Stop defending mediocracy! The project started before 2012 and was rebooted/scraped several times before release
Its original release date was April 16th 2020, nearly 7 months before the next gen consoles were released. Most likely PC was always the lead platform, and they just assumed they could easily scale the game to fit the different consoles.
@@ulrichleukam1068 Cyberpunk went into pre pros in 2012 yes however they were making plans and concepts for when they would eventually start Dev. CDPR made it clear that after Witcher 3’a content was done Cyberpunk will go into full production which was in 2016. They had a 4 year development cycle and considering how early they showed the game when it clearly was not ready for release. They should have kept working and fleshing out mechanics before start showing. They were still adding and removing features in 2018.
Unrelated, but I wish you guys would bring back DF HDR. I know those videos were a hassle to produce but they were ahead of their time. I actually remember John complaining in one of them that he couldn’t even watch them yet on his iPhone X. Well, RUclips has supported HDR playback on iPhones for a while now, not to mention the iPad Pro and AppleTV 4K.

This game's engine just doesn't seem very efficient. For the performance that you get the visuals don't evoke that "nextgen" feeling. I've played the game on a Ryzen 3900x with a RTX 3070 running on high settings with RT enabled and it didn't blow my mind like I thought it would. It looked good but I think GTA5 with mods looks better and it's an old game :/
Probably because the game engine in itself cannot handle much. Even with current graphics and total lack of gameplay systems, the engine seems to be struggling. It's just a shoddily built game and it shows.
Sad because the artwork deserves praise. I wish they can sell off assets like the map and let someone else work on it.

This game made me appreciate Rockstar more. They created a beautiful open world on base ps4 and xbone that run at 30fps with no crashes and no weird bugs and glitches.

I don’t think it should ever have come to PS4 and Xbox One. I wish they had simply aimed for PC, XSX and PS5. But it’s easy to forget the state Witcher 3 launched in, and now that’s my favourite video game of all time. I have faith that when we get the next gen upgrade, it will be a damn fine game.
