I finished Red Rising and I'm halfway through Golden Son. I liked Red Rising a lot and Golden Son is blowing me away so far. I feel like so much has happened and I'm only 60% in. The pace of this book feels crazy in a good way. I haven't read this fast in a while. I'm off to my local book store to buy Morning Star. I can't wait. I'm going to wait for the sequel series to finish before I dive into those, but I might not have the willpower to resist them. Thanks for the good recommendations!
Well, Mr. Influencer, you convinced me to read The Fall. I finished it about 10 minutes ago. Holy crap. I will definitely be reading Of Blood and Fire sooner, rather than later. I finished The Bands of Mourning and currently working on The Lost Metal
I finished The Great Hunt a couple days ago and was absolutely blown away. I keep telling my family that if Wheel of Time isn’t careful it could become my favorite series. I’m reading Valor by John Gwynne right now. I’m only about 60 pages into it though.
I look forward to see you and MJ tomorrow! She's a really cool person, I'm a regular over at her channel as well. Loving Lonesome Dove, it's been about 2x weeks and just past the halfway point. All I got to say about it is Blue Duck...
I just finished Rain Wilds last month and they are great. I don’t know where the negative thinking comes from on these. I’ve raised teenagers and the teens in this series are indistinguishable from IRW teens emotionally. If they are driving you crazy it’s because Hobb has written so close to reality. The best thing about the Rain Wilds, though, is all the dragon lore and background. Hobb has managed to give us glimpses of so much more beyond the core of this sub series. Rain Wilds isn’t a fast paced read (at all) but it’s a rewarding one.
Agreed on your Succession take. It was never the kind of show that was going to do a happy and whimsical ending. Also, the Roy sibs are all messes, so that ending made absolute sense.
Just about finished with Morning Star and so nervous for the end! I'm playing Diablo 4 and loving it so far. Have played all of them since I was a kid, so I knew it would click with me.
Please don’t get rid of your book hauls! I like those videos, and I’m looking forward to having my book on it one day. You will like it because the main character is a Stephen King fan! 😁
Sounds like you’re having a pretty enjoyable overall month so far, Mike! Excited to see what your thoughts will be on Rainwilds Chronicles, I’m a couple series behind you but love keeping up with your spoiler free thoughts. Hope you have a great rest of the month!
🤦🏼♀It's official, I'm a rubbish Kiwi. How is it *possible* that I've been in the booktube sphere for ANY length of time, and only just now learned that Ryan Cahill lives here too? I've hung my head in shame. As for your Mt Rushmore Mike, thanks to wretched tv stations in NZ, the cost of streaming services (until more recently), and my stroke making 'new' things difficult, I've only seen BSG - which is one of *MY* top two (the other being Firefly). Which means I now have to find the time, the streaming access, and the brain capacity for more shows! Cheers
I had problems with a section from Of Darkness and Light. I wanted to put the book down and pick it up again at another time. I finished it, but that section stayed in my mind. That's why I think The Fall is better.
Firstly, the interview with Ryan Cahill was incredible. I just finished watching it this morning. Such good stuff and I am really about to move that series up on my TBR. Currently reading the expanse. As far as gaming goes, my wife and I have our own monitors set up in the living room that we can move out when needed, so we both can game and still watch tv. It’s kinda crazy but it works and we don’t have to fight over a tv. 😅
I’m 3/4 of the way through The Will of The Many and I’m loving it. It’s not my favorite book of the year (at least thus far) but I am enjoying it. I actually never finished Licanius, it wasn’t my cup of tea. I think my favorite so far is Cold People, a sci fi book in Antarctica. Dying to see your top ten. I don’t even know how I would narrow it down, Lonesome Dove is high on my list though. Succession ended perfectly. It was amazing. I wouldn’t change it. It was all the feels. Unlikeable characters, but interesting characters with fascinating relationships. The writing and acting was impeccable.
I wish there were a sprint read of short stories. I just read three short stories, the earliest Frank Herbert stories (Missing Link; Operation Haystack; Try to Remember) and it was incredible! I was on a Frank Herbert binge this weekend and read Under Pressure yesterday and The Green Brain tomorrow
Just bought The Well off Ascension and The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson. Currently on The Fall by Ryan Cahill. A week and a half more of exams, then the longest summer I’ll have until I retire, can’t wait for all the reading!
@@noteuser15 No, lol, I said UNTIL I RETIRE, not gonna do that any time soon. In the UK, we get to go home as soon as we finish our GCSE exams (I'm assuming you're American so I'll just say they are taken when you are 15-16) and get an additional 4 weeks holiday, on top of the usual 6 in summer. So, I'll get 10 weeks over summer, which is the most I've ever had and more than I'll likely ever get especially once I start working. My next time I will get a summer longer than 10 weeks will be when I retire, so yeah, now you know even though you probably didn't care that much

I am always saddened to hear when people are calling for others to stop reading or watching certain things because of things outside of the art itself.....I automatically feel defensive when an author or actor is being trashed or called "problematic".....maybe just a me thing ?
Currently reading The Way of Edan by the good doctor fantasy and really enjoying it. Sounds like getting The Will of the Many from the library rather than blind buying was a good choice
Mike, such a relief to hear your review on Will of the Many. I kept asking myself, “Where is that book that everyone is giving 5 star reviews?” I don’t have any desire finishing the series.
I’ve started reading multiple books at once - in different genres - and I’m finding it a very enjoyable experience. Another thing you’ve inspired me to do - thanks :-) can’t wait for your top 10.
I had to read the epilogue for The Will of the Many twice to somewhat understand. From what I understand: SPOILERS!!!! Maybe you got the same thing, but the 2 places that kept getting mentioned over and over were alternate universes, but instead of Vis being transported to one from his own earth, a separate copy of Vis was made for each world. Additionally, Caeror was the only other person to have made it to that side of the maze, which is why he didn’t know that Veridius was the head of the Academy. The writing on Vis’ arm in the other 2 worlds came from Caeror telling Vis to carve WAIT and RUN, not sure what the wait was about, probably needed to stay for a little or he would have been killed. In the ice world, I think Caeror is there too. The 3rd version of Caeror must have actually died in Res. And I assume his arm being chopped off in Lucium is the reason why his arm died in Res. That’s what I got.
That was also my understanding of the epilogue as well. After discussion with the person I buddy-read the book with. It was a 45 minutes discussion on just the epilogue.
Great update as always, Mike. I'm about a third of the way through Jade War, then I will finish up the series with Jade Legacy. I am already eyeing my stand alone after that with Tress of the Emerald Sea, so looking forward to that one. Looking forward to that top ten list. If you are having trouble narrowing it down you can always make it a top twenty....just saying.
Hi Mike, I haven’t read The Will of the Many yet but your comments are very helpful. I have lots of books that I have mixed feelings on, not because I didn’t like the book but because it took me so long to either figure something out or for me to get into the book. Good to know The Will of the Many might be like that. I did read the first chapter and I’m not completely sure what’s happening yet. It’s interesting for sure. By the way I never know what order to read in either. Haha.
Loving Diablo IV right now! Got it 2 days early because of the pre-order and put 24 hours into it and beat the campaign the day it came out for everyone else! Also halfway through Red Rising right now, really like it so far. Watching What We Do in the Shadows as well, great hilarious show.
Cibola Burn was my 7th favourite of the 9 main books in The Expanse. I still liked it, especially the first half, I just thought it lost a bit steam in the second half. Based on what you said you enjoy in The Expanse I think you're going to like Nemesis Games next. Hope you do!
I completed Assassin’s Apprentice on my third attempt. I was able to get past those road blocks on my two previous attempts. I enjoyed it very much, and I plan on continuing with the series. Glad to have slightly tempered expectations for Will of the Many! Hype trains for some new releases just sometimes go way too far. Hope you enjoy Cibola/Ciabatta Burn! You'll definitely get a western feel, though you may have to wait just a book more to get more crew POVs (the new POVs in this book are great though so hopefully that won't be such a bad thing).
I just read The Fall, and i have The Dragon Keeper ready to go. May dip into Of Blood and Fire first though after how cool The Fall was. Curious to see your top 10 books and glad for some Dark Age content!

I'm having a blast with Diablo 4 so far. A lot more than I expected. My rogue is a lot of fun to play. And I'm reading The Way of Kings. About half way through and I am loving it! Still on the fence if I want to go see Flash in the theatre. I do like to go see things on the big screen and try to do it once or twice a month, but my only real interest in the movie is because of Michael Keaton, to be perfectly honest 😂
I feel every single week, Booktube plugs the same over hyped authors and books, hyperbolic praise "best book I've ever read, flawless, gamechanging" And then I read it and wonder how I could have possibly read the same book. I feel TWOTM will be the same
I’m gonna try to guess your top 10 books. In no particular order Dune Storm or Swords Lord of the Rings (I consider this 1 book, not sure if you do) Ender’s Game Gone with the Wind Lonesome Dove Words of Radiance Last Argument of Kings IT Golden Son To Kill A Mockingbird
I've zero interest in Spider-Verse and I found the first movie to be pretty average. The only comic book movie that I care about this year is Flash because Keaton will always be my Batman. I think the only other movies this year that I care about is Mission Impossible 7 and Dune 2.
But Mike we want to know what you're TRUE all time top 10 is, not your 1 book per author top 10. If 8 of them are Stephen King books then so what? Those are YOUR top 10 favourite books of all time. That's what WE want to know.

Still on the fence if I want to go see Flash in the theatre. I do like to go see things on the big screen and try to do it once or twice a month, but my only real interest in the movie is because of Michael Keaton, to be perfectly honest 😂
I feel every single week, Booktube plugs the same over hyped authors and books, hyperbolic praise "best book I've ever read, flawless, gamechanging"
And then I read it and wonder how I could have possibly read the same book.
I feel TWOTM will be the same
I’m gonna try to guess your top 10 books. In no particular order
Dune
Storm or Swords
Lord of the Rings (I consider this 1 book, not sure if you do)
Ender’s Game
Gone with the Wind
Lonesome Dove
Words of Radiance
Last Argument of Kings
IT
Golden Son
To Kill A Mockingbird
I meant to replace Golden Son with To Kill a Mockingbird originally, so I'm claiming 8/10 correct
Diablo is awesome I have been playing that
I've zero interest in Spider-Verse and I found the first movie to be pretty average. The only comic book movie that I care about this year is Flash because Keaton will always be my Batman. I think the only other movies this year that I care about is Mission Impossible 7 and Dune 2.
This weekend I'm watching
Season 4 of Agatha raisin
The bl show love syndrome
80 for Brady
For anyone that's curious, Cibola is (Sih-bull-uh), audiobook reader here 😂
@deki631 audiobooking is reading 🤷♂️
I like Grant Guston as the flash the movie version is too wacky I think
Better call saul is better than breaking bad and it sticks the landing and doesn’t have a bad season 🤷♂️
Gaurdains is meant to be really good also Stephen king boogeyman looks good
But Mike we want to know what you're TRUE all time top 10 is, not your 1 book per author top 10. If 8 of them are Stephen King books then so what? Those are YOUR top 10 favourite books of all time. That's what WE want to know.
Mike! Mike! Mike! Mike! Mike!
Gen X are the best 😁
