SCIENCE AND UGADI FESTIVAL
▪ We Celebrate Ugadi festival but so many of us don’t know the science behind it.
It is not just any religious festival but it has so much of scientific fact behind it let me tell you the science behind you got the festival in sweet and short.
UGADI FESTIVAL IS NOT JUST A CALENDER CHANGE OF WESTERN NEW YEAR, BUT UGADI IS A NATURE CHANGE.
▪ According to Hindu calendar chandramana Ugadi (Chaitra suddha padhyami) is the beginning of New Year.
▪ It is most commonly celebrated by Andhra Telugu speaking peoples and Karnataka kannadigas. it is also celebrated by Maharashtra people who call Ugadi as Gudi Padwa.
▪ 1 st January it’s just a change of calendar date but there is nothing said to be occurs any scientific or astronomical events on 1st January.
▪ Let me explain you astronomical and scientific events of UGADI Festival.

ASTRONOMICAL EVENTS OF UGADI
▪ The word Ugadi is derived from Sanskrit word Yuga-adi. Yuga means period adi means beginning. It means the beginning of new time.
▪ Today the Earth AXIS is tilted in such a way that Northern hemisphere received the highest amount of sun energy carefully observe the above image.
▪ It may be little discomfort for the humans because of high temperature but the earth gets charged.
▪ Speaking astronomical year the day before Ugadi is Amavasya.
▪ This means it is the last day of waning of Moon and the first day of waxing of moon. Which signifies the beginning of new time. Now you can observe by yourself it is the first day of Vasant Ritu means it is the first day of beginning of Spring season.
▪ From this day onwards trees & plants start shedding their leaves and the new growth begins to appear.
▪ Even the nature also signifies the beginning of new time.
▪ Today the New Hindu calendar (panchangam) begins.
▪ Hindu calendar is not just significant culturally but it is connected astronomical year and scientifically through describing the moments of Planet.
▪ According to our Indian great Mathematician Bhaskaracharya the Sun rise on the day of Ugadi is the beginning of New Year because the earth exactly complete it’s one revolution around the sun.
Rituals performed by the people on the day of Ugadi
▪ On the day of Ugadi, People woke up before sun rise they take a head bath with caster oil. People who celebrate ugadi will take head bath with castor oil. Do you know the reason behind it? here is the reason.
▪ As I told before Northern hemisphere receives highest energies of sun and hence it a little bit inconvenient for a human to adapt high temperature so we use a cooling agent like castor oil taking bath with castor oil is nothing but a preparation for the hottest period in this year.
▪ After this they starts decorating the house entrance with fresh mango leaves. And again there is a scientific reason behind it because the fresh leaves in the front of Home Alone the fresh air to come inside the home and it creates a sense of calmness.
▪ People wears New Clothes which creates a sense of new being inside their consciousness.

▪ Reflection in Ghee: Watching one’s reflection in a bowl of molten ghee.
▪ Abhyang: Taking of oil bath by all members of the family.
▪ New Dresses: Wearing of new clothes by all family members.
▪ Abhyang for God’s: Giving oil bath to the idols of Gods.
▪ Offering flowers: Offering flowers of neem, mango and tamarind to the Gods.
▪ Panchanga Pooja: After worshipping God,Panchanga for the new Samvatsara or Year is worshipped.
▪ Front door decoration : Decorating the front door with Kemmannu, (red earth), Rangoli and Mango leaves. Sometimes neem leaves are also used.
▪ Visiting temples: Visiting temples and seeking blessings of the Almighty God.

“Let my body remain strong, like a diamond,

అన్నదమ్ముల వలె నుండుడు అవనిలోన
సుఖము దుఃఖము సమముగా చూడమనుచు షడ్రుచులు నిచ్చు
